Royal baby watch

Bossclaireshorty

I am not trying to spread the tizzy *everyone* is in over this, but this about the queen is fantastic:
"Queen Elizabeth II is among those keen for the new baby to greet the world. On a visit to northern England Wednesday, she was asked by a little girl whether she wants her great-grandchild to be a boy or a girl. The queen replied: 'I don't think I mind. I would very much like it to arrive. I'm going on holiday.'"

Royal watchers eagerly await the arrival of a child that will be heir to the British throne. Here's what you need to know and the latest developments:

Crocheted Clothes Help Kitten Recover

by Jill Harness

Meet Wasabi-Chan. This little cutie was attacked by a crow and rescued by a passerby who rescued the kitten and brought her to an animal hospital. She was suffering from a broken jaw and a split tongue, which meant she had to be fed via feeding tube.

Unfortunately, Wasabi-Chan is a playful little kitty, so every time a tube was inserted, she'd fidget and move until it came back out. To keep her from ripping out the feeding tube, her rescuer started fitting her with adorable crocheted outfits like this one and started an Instagram to keep the public abreast of her recovery and her adorable outfits.

The kitten is now doing fine, but that doesn't mean she's any less cute—even without her crocheted fashion ensembles.

Did a massive dragon just wash ashore along England's Jurassic coast?

Beachgoers on a Dorset beach were in for quite a jolt earlier this week as they encountered what appeared to be the remains of a giant dragon. In reality, it's a sculpture put together by Blinkbox to promote the third season of Game of Thrones which is arriving to the service.

I’m Kind Of Over Johnny Depp (Gasp!) And It Seems America Agrees

by Monica Bielanko
Bossclaireshorty

This lady & I are sympatico on the JD role situation.

I almost hate myself for what I’m about to write. Because, full disclosure, I love Johnny Depp so desperately, always have/always will. He’s even on my freebie list along with Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, (whose name, despite my love for him, I can never type without first googling) Ryan Gosling and Clive Owen. Not only [...]

It is a good book

by Shaun Usher

On May 22nd of 1925, the great Gertrude Stein wrote to fellow author F. Scott Fitzgerald and offered, in her own inimitable style, a brief review of his recently published novel, The Great Gatsby. It can be enjoyed below. Also of note: Fitzgerald's editor's reaction to an early draft of The Great Gatsby, here, and a rejection letter once sent to Stein by Arthur Fifield, here. All are fantastic.

My dear Fitzgerald:

Here we are and have read your book and it is a good book. I like the melody of your dedication and it shows that you have a background of beauty and tenderness and that is a comfort. The next good thing is that you write naturally in sentences and that too is a comfort. You write naturally in sentences and one can read all of them and that among other things is a comfort. You are creating the contemporary world much as Thackeray did his in Pendennis and Vanity Fair and this isn't a bad compliment. You make a modern world and a modern orgy strangely enough it was never done until you did it in This Side of Paradise. My belief in This Side of Paradise was alright. This is as good a book and different and older and that is what one does, one does not get better but different and older and that is always a pleasure. Best of good luck to you always, and thanks so much for the very genuine pleasure you have given me. We are looking forward to seeing you and Mrs. Fitzgerald when we get back in the Fall. Do please remember me to her and to you always

World War Z in 175 Words or Less

by JA
.
I'm forcing myself to write this review even though I can tell you right now, right here at the outset, that I don't really have anything to say about this movie. (Not that anything I could say would top my tweet about it.) Which in itself is something, I guess. I liked it more than I thought I would, but then I didn't think I would like it at all - the trailer's left me totally cold. But there's some really fine work going on, even if everything feels slightly redundant of the seventeen thousand zombie movies we've seen since 28 Days Later (which it most resembled) - for one, it just glides along, doesn't it? I wasn't ever bored - in fact a lot of the set-pieces hum with palpable tension. I don't think he got much credit when the film first came out and everybody was surprised the movie didn't suck but I lay my goodwill down at Brad Pitt's feet - he makes a raggedy-assed apocalypse go down super smoothly.

19-Foot Python Breaks Into Australian Thrift Store

Oh my dear Mother Nature.

19-Foot Python Breaks Into Australian Thrift Store

Police in Australia investigating a presumed burglary at a thrift store thought it was odd that there was a large hole in the store's ceiling and a pile of vomit-like liquid on the ground. As it turns out, though, it wasn't a burglar responsible for the damage but instead a 19-foot python, which an employee found 24-hours later, hiding alongside a wall.

Should "Ћ" Be the New "The"?

Twitter has been abuzz this week with talks of "Ћ", a symbol for the word "the" recently proposed by Australian restaurateur Paul Mathis. In an interview with The Age, Mathis said he hopes "Ћ" will replace the word itself, asserting that the most-used word in the English language deserves its own symbol and that it could improve efficiency when texting or tweeting. To jump start his ambitious movement, Mathis says he's invested $38,000 in a mobile app that will hopefully bring the "Ћ" symbol into everyone's hands in the near future.

Christopher Walken as Zeus, Nelsan Ellis as Dionysus: Best Movie Ever?

Lots of off-beat choices have been playing Zeus lately. You had Liam Neeson in the Titans films. You have Sean Bean in the Percy Jackson films. But screw that — we want Christopher Fuckin' Walken playing the King of the Gods. And this movie already exists.
