Ridiculous Fishing, Undertale, Owlboy developers and more unite for a new book

A few months ago, one of our community members reached out to the Destructoid readership for help with a student project. He wanted to create a love letter to videogames, in the form of a printed collection of personal essays and critiques, joined together by elegant design and art direction. Many of our most prominent community members offered their help, and in the end, the project was a huge success.

Love letters to videogames are among my favorite things in the world, so I reached out to Caz (the creator of the project) shortly after it wrapped to see if I could help him to take the zine to print on a larger scale. A few months later, and he's launched a kickstarter for an expanded edition of his project, entitled A Profound Waste of Time, now featuring a glow in the dark cover, and contributions from the developers of Hotline Miami, Earthbound, Divekick, Killer Instinct, Super Meat Boy, Shovel Knight, Downwell, and more. We also roped former Dtoid UK boss Laura Kate Dale into the mix, which was a lucky break. She's so busy with Lets Play Video Games these days, I wasn't sure she'd be able to make it. Thankfully, she jumped on board with no hesitation.

As for me, I'm not planning on making a cent off the project, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not posting about it here out of selfishness. I really want a copy of this thing on my bookshelf. I'm also hoping that, if the project makes its goal, new writers and artists will be added to the roster. If so, who would you like to see throw their talent into the mix? Jim Sterling? Alex Ahad? Arin Hanson? Joe Madureira? Jaime Lee Curtis? Dreamweaver? Anything's possible! Let us know what you think. I know Caz is listening.

The Superstitious Murderer Who Turned Her Victims Into Cake And Soap

by Cheryl Eddy on True Crime, shared by Lauren Davis to io9

If you search Leonarda Cianciulli on the website for Rome’s Museo Criminologico, you’ll see that her nickname was “la Saponificatrice di Correggio.” What’s so sinister about a soap maker? Well, because she crafted it out of at least one of her murder victims ... and then gifted the bars to her friends.

Some YouTubers Might Be Breaking The Law

In the past week, two excellent features have been written on the state of YouTube personalities in video games. One by Mike Rose on Gamasutra, the other by Simon Parkin on Eurogamer. They raise a number of important, albeit messy questions about the practice of these folks getting paid by publishers.

The Next Episode Of The Walking Dead Is Coming Out This Week

by Kirk Hamilton

Wait, this week? Sweet!

Telltale games has confirmed to us that 400 Days, the next episode in their lauded The Walking Dead series, will be launching this week. The game will come to PSN on July 2, PC/Mac on July 3, and Xbox live on July 5. It'll then be out on PSN in Europe on July 10 and on iOS on July 11.

The news was first reported by IGN, and we confirmed with Telltale as well. Tina had a chance to play the new episode at E3, and found that the tough decisions fly fast and hard, as usual. Looking forward to playing this one—we'll have some impressions of the game on the site soon.
