You see Russia and you see cement and you see FAIL and you see a man standing under a truck and you think the worst, but then when you watch it all unfold, it’s just poetry in motion, and suddenly you realize that not everything has to be hockey pucks shattering teeth and exiting the backs of skulls, and not everything has to be someone getting knee-capped by a Hummer being driven by a child who hates church. There’s a different world out there, that is quieter and more friendly. And we can be a part of that world, starting with our FAILs. That’s what the Coalition aims to achieve. Hopefully we won’t suffer from an Epic Coalition FAIL #LOL.

If You Hit A Person In An LA Car Show, Your Car Is Getting Trashed
D GI'm glad I don't live there.
Here we see a Toyota Camry hit a lady crossing the street in the middle of the Crenshaw Takeover car show last Saturday night. It's not long before a crowd of people smash in the Camry's windshield, and things go downhill from there.
DARPA Made a Vacuum the Size of a Penny

You know that terrible feeling in your gut when you've eaten something you shouldn't have? Well imagine having a Roomba small enough to swallow, one that could clean up that mess inside you. That's not exactly what DARPA had in mind when it funded the creation of this penny-sized vacuum, although it certainly should have been.
But highly sensitive gas analyzers that can detect biological weapon attacks, and incredibly accurate microscopic atomic clocks are cool too. Which is why DARPA put researchers from the University of Michigan, MIT, and Honeywell International on the task. The minuscule vacuum pump pictured here was developed at the University of Michigan and uses an array of tiny hexagonal compartments connected with even smaller channels to maximize their suction. It sadly can't be used to clean up chip crumbs, but as a way to cool tiny electronics, it could revolutionize smartphones.
And this is actually one of the larger micro vacuums the researchers had created. Other examples are smaller than a dime, and the breakthroughs from this research could eventually lead to mechanical vacuums that exist on the microscopic scale, giving high-performance processors their own built-in cooling fans. Marilyn Manson Reaches Out To Paris Jackson After Suicide Attempt
Paris Jackson, the daughter of Michael Jackson, was hospitalized after attempting suicide Wednesday. The 15-year-old was reportedly upset that she couldn’t attend a Marilyn Manson and ran into her room and cut her wrists with a meat cleaver.
It was also reported that Jackson swallowed a number of pills and left a suicide note. She was rushed to a California hospital around 2 am, and received stitches. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Now, Manson is reaching out to the teenager, and letting her know that she is always welcome at his concerts.
Manson told Jackson, “I hope you feel better. You will be on my guest list anytime you want.”
It’s perhaps a different side of the controversial rocker than most are used to seeing, but one that he has displayed in the past. In Michael Moore’s 2002 documentary, Bowling for Columbine, Moore interviews the rocker about how the Columbine shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, listened to his music the day of the shooting. Many blamed Manson’s music for the shooting, and Manson said he understands that he is a convenient scapegoat.
“I’m kind of a poster boy for fear, because I represent what everyone’s afraid of, because I do and say what I want,” he said. Manson added that he wouldn’t “say a single word” to the Columbine community, and that he would just listen “because that’s what no one did.”
An animated version of Manson displayed a similar concern for his young fans. In the Family Guy episode “Saving Private Brian,” Chris starts singing in rock band and rebels against his parents, who find a Marilyn Manson poster and CD in his room. Peter wants to talk to Manson about turning Chris into a jerk, and Manson (voiced by one of the show’s writers, Tom Devanney) says he’ll talk to him. He also gives him tips about starting his day with a healthy breakfast and tells Peter to spend time with him.
Katherine Jackson, Paris Jackson’s grandmother, said the teenager is “physically fine” and is receiving “appropriate medical attention.”

Eastbound & Down Will End After Season 4
The saga of Kenny Powers is coming to a close. HBO announced today that upcoming season of Eastbound & Down will be the show’s last.
The third season of Eastbound & Down was rumored to be its last but HBO convinced star and show creator Danny McBride to return for one final season. The fourth season of the cult show will start filming this week in North Carolina and will pick up a few years after the end of season 3.
The third season ended with Kenny Powers faking his own death in order to return to his love April. The fourth season will show Kenny reunited with his family and living “the American Dream.”
HBO writes in a press release: “In the third season of EASTBOUND & DOWN, which concluded in April 2012, Kenny Powers finally made it back to the majors and recaptured his former glory, only to fake his own death and run back home to his beloved April, the mother of his child. The upcoming fourth season picks up the action several years later and finds Kenny living the American Dream with his family in North Carolina.”
Danny McBride will have no problem finding work after the end of Eastbound & Down. He is currently starring in This Is The End and As I Lie Dying and will soon be producing a new animated show for FXX.
Here’s a look at some of the best moments from season 3. (NSFW)

‘Getaway’ Trailer: Just Drive, Ethan Hawke

Confession: for a long time I didn’t like Ethan Hawke. I can’t even remember why; the reason was irrational, I’m sure. Probably something along the lines of “I don’t like his face,” the sort of snap judgement made when you’re young, which sticks just because it’s there. I’ve long since revised my stance, mostly because it was stupid.
For anyone else who still harbors a lack of good feelings towards Hawke, check out the AMA he did at Reddit yesterday, which is one of the better actor/fan exchanges I’ve seen. Or see Before Midnight, which is great. The Purge also opens this week, and while it is less great, the fault (as with Sinister) isn’t with Hawke.
There’s actually a minor explosion of genre movies featuring Hawke. In addition to those two horror pictures there’s Getaway, which co-stars Selena Gomez, and also a car. This isn’t The Getaway, which would be the story by Jim Thompson that has already been adapted twice, and influenced From Dusk Till Dawn. This is a different straight-up race movie, pared down to the bare essentials. The trailer is below, and it builds to a nice pitch.
The concept here is pretty ridiculous, but who cares? If it works in context — if Hawke and Gomez can sell the whole package, as director Courtney Solomon sells the action, then the silly plot won’t matter. Now, since Solomon’s last two features are Dungeons & Dragons and An American Haunting, we’ll see how that goes.
Getaway opens August 30. Apple has the trailer.
Getaway is the gritty, heart-pounding action thriller from Warner Bros. Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment in which former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

The Visual Patterns of Audio Frequencies Seen through Vibrating Sand

Youtube user Brusspup (previously here and here) who often explores the intersection between art and science just released this new video featuring the Chladni plate experiment. First a black metal plate is attached to a tone generator and then sand is poured on the plate. As the speaker is cycled through various frequencies the sand naturally gravitates to the area where the least amount of vibration occurs causing fascinating geometric patterns to emerge. There’s actually a mathematical law that determines how each shape will form, the higher the frequency the more complex the pattern.
prostheticknowledge: MATAERIAL A 3D Printing system that can...

MATAERIAL
A 3D Printing system that can create forms without the hindrance of gravity - video embedded below:
A brand new method of additive manufacturing. This patent-pending method allows for creating 3D objects on any given working surface independently of its inclination and smoothness, and without a need of additional support structures. Conventional methods of additive manufacturing have been affected both by gravity and printing environment: creation of 3D objects on irregular, or non-horizontal surfaces has so far been treated as impossible . By using innovative extrusion technology we are now able to neutralize the effect of gravity during the course of the printing process. This method gives us a flexibility to create truly natural objects by making 3D curves instead of 2D layers. Unlike 2D layers that are ignorant to the structure of the object, the 3D curves can follow exact stress lines of a custom shape. Finally, our new out of the box printing method can help manufacture structures of almost any size and shape.

‘South Park’ Sequel Most Likely Happening Thanks To Christopher Nolan
Have we reached a point where we thank director Christopher Nolan for all promising contributions to film? The answer is yes, we have. This time around it’s because the long-awaited South Park sequel is likely happening inadvertently due to the director.
So what does the man responsible for The Dark Knight have to do with the new South Park sequel? Simple. Christopher Nolan’s new sci fi venture Interstellar will be financed by Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. Although the two studios are rivals, the two struck a deal, which made Warner Bros let go of a few rights to Paramount for a compromise.
That said, Paramount now has the rights to the next Friday the 13th film and, you guessed it, the next South Park sequel. The only thing not surprising about Warner Bros passing on South Park is what lead to them letting go of the rights. Warner Bros has partnered with Christopher Nolan since The Dark Knight trilogy started, and because of that they have been rewarded handsomely from his contributions. We’re sure letting go of the next South Park sequel didn’t hurt at all.
It’s been well over ten years since we’ve seen South Park’s Kenny, Cartman, Stan, and Kyle on the big screen. The first time we were able to see the animated foul-mouthed grade schoolers in a film was in Comedy Central’s South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, which saw Saddam doing the nasty with the devil.
Since the film and subsequent years on the South Park television show, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have received a ton of success from their Broadway musical The Book of Mormon. So much so that the Broadway production is set to be adapted into a film. Combine that film with the coincidental timing of the South Park sequel and it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Trey Parker and Matt Stone on the junket circuit.
If we’re going to see the South Park sequel come to fruition it’s said that Paramount has five years to make this sequel happen or else they lose the rights to the film.
Would you check out a South Park sequel?
