Capture That Movie Piracy Fail Moment With Bandai Toys

by Andy

nomoresTom v Jerry, Batman v The Joker, Xbox v Playstation, Coke v Pepsi, cops v robbers. The list of rivalries in modern culture is a colorful one, with never-ending debates over who or which should come out on top.

In today’s file-sharing world we might think in terms of Kim Dotcom against the U.S. Government or The Pirate Bay v Hollywood, but these copyright-related rivalries mean very little in the East. Indeed, today they have a much bigger battle to contend with. It seems that in the land of the rising sun the players in an anti-piracy campaign run by the movie industry have grown so popular that they have shifted into popular culture.

NO MORE 映画泥棒 (NO MORE Movie Thief) is an anti-piracy ad played in Japanese theaters to advise against the illegal camming of movies. Since its launch in 2007 it has featured two main characters. The first is Camera Otoko (Camera Man), a guy in a black suit with his head replaced by a camcorder. The second, Patrol Lamp Otoko (Patrol Lamp Man), is a blue-suited gentleman with a red flashing police light for a head.

nomore1

Somewhat unexpectedly (or perhaps not) the odd duo have proven a hit with the Japanese. In addition to inspiring hundreds of pieces of neat and sometimes unsettling artwork they are appearing more and more in popular culture. Even the vibrant Japanese cosplay scene is feeding on their inspiration.

NoMoreCos

But now, thanks to a great spot by ITMedia.co.jp, the latest wave in the NO MORE craze is about to hit the streets. To commemorate the camming phenomenon both characters have been turned into action figurines by toy giant Bandai, each designed to be worn as accessories.

Currently Bandai are offering several different designs for 3024 yen ($28.99) a set, a steal for those with a deep desire to outwardly depict the camming of a movie and ultimately the arrest and imprisonment of the perpetrator. According to Google Translate, they also come with a snack that looks like gum, perfect for those on a diet looking to cut down on theater food bills.

Up next week, Bandai releases action figures of the entire original Pirate Bay crew and a double pack featuring Kim Dotcom versus Chris Dodd. We wish…..

I somehow doubt anyone expected this Mazda 626 Coupe to flip onto its roof after this fairly massive jump. I somehow doubt anyone expected everyone to walk away from the wreck, too.

The drone that threatened Diane Feinstein

by J.P. Travis

The Wire tracks down the drone that threatened Diane Feinstein. She claimed a “drone” hovered outside the window of her home and was “looking out at me.” Well, gee, turns out the so-called drone was a little pink remote-controlled helicopter (with no camera) that Code Pink protestors fly around at their protests. Another day in Washington, another senator looking like a moron.

Adam Lanza Call To Radio Station May Reveal Motive In School Shooting [Listen]

by Jennifer Deutschmann

Adam Lanza Radio

Adam Lanza reportedly called a University of Oregon radio station one year before he opened fire inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. Although the caller disguises his voice and claims his name is “Greg,” those who knew Lanza said it is definitely him.

Throughout the call, “Greg” discusses a tragic incident involving a chimpanzee named Travis. In 2009, the domesticated chip had a violent outburst. He subsequently attacked and severely injured 55-year-old Charla Nash, a friend of his owner, Sandra Herold.

The caller, who is assumed to be Adam Lanza, discussed Travis’ possible motive:

“… his attack wasn’t simply because he was a senselessly violent, impulsive chimp… which was how his behavior was universally portrayed… looking at his entire life … some little thing he experienced was the last straw… “

Even more chilling, “Greg” compared the chimpanzee’s attack to impulsive and violent human behavior:

“His attack can be seen entirely parallel to the attacks and random acts of violence… committed by humans, which the mainstream also has no explanation for I just don’t think it would be such a stretch to say that he very well could have been a teenage mall shooter or something like that.”

In addition to acquaintances recognizing the voice, there is more evidence suggesting the caller is indeed Adam Lanza. A search warrant, provided by the Connecticut State Police, reveals Lanza was a regular on a message board, which focused on the 1999 Columbine High School Massacre.

As reported by Sandy Hook Lighthouse, Lanza’s username, Smiggles, is identified in the warrant. Interestingly, a user named Smiggles was a regular on the Shocked Beyond Belief blog, which is subtitled “The new home of the Super Columbine Massacre RPG Discussion Forum.”

On September 13, 2011, the user named Smiggles discussed Travis the chimp’s violent outburst and his subsequent death. The user also compares tribute videos featuring the chimp to tributes made for “murderers like Alyssa Bustamante.” At the age of 15, Bustamante killed her 9-year-old neighbor.

Shocked Beyond Belief Post

On September 10, 2011, Smiggles suggested that he ought to call John Zernan’s radio show to discuss the infamous chimp.

Smiggles Blog

On December 20, 2011, John Zernan received a call during his Anarchy Radio show, broadcast by the University of Oregon. The caller, who is thought to be Adam Lanza, went on a rant about Travis the chimp. The strange call is filled with innuendos about children, parenting, societal expectations, and impulsive violence.

Smiggles discussed the call on the Shocked Beyond Belief blog, stating that the call “didn’t go as horribly” as he expected.

Lanza Call

Other posts by the user seem to foreshadow his future crime. Unfortunately, the user’s posts suggest he is obsessed with death, mass murder, and weapons.

Smiggles Post text of Lanza post

Although it is not confirmed by authorities, the evidence suggests the caller in the recording was likely Adam Lanza.

Movie Producer Harvey Weinstein Says He Will Make NRA ‘Wish They Weren’t Alive’

by Tara Dodrill

Howard Stern Harvey Weinstein

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has vowed to make the National Rifle Association (NRA) “wish they weren’t alive.” The movie maker’s comments during an interview with Howard Stern angered Second Amendment supporters. Weinstein also stated that no one in the United States needs to own a gun and that he had never purchased a firearm and never would.

Weinstein’s anti-gun comments has caused some to wonder if the producer does not need to own a gun himself because he has a private security detail – something every day Americans cannot afford. “I don’t think we need guns in this country. And I hate it. I think the NRA is a disaster area,” Harvey said.

The moviemaker told Stern that he did not want to reveal too much about his “secret film” that would rock the NRA. He also stated that actress Meryl Streep is involved with the film and that the two of them are “going to take the issue [guns] head on.” The Weinstein movie is not a documentary and was likened to Mr. Smith Goes to Washington by the controversial producer.

Howard Stern was blunt when challenging Weinstein’s gun control stance. When the radio show host asked what would happen if an event like the Holocaust happened again and people were once again marched into Auschwitz type concentration camps. Weinstein simply said that he would “find a gun” if something like that occurred. Stein also said that Streep referred to Weinstein as God. The radio show host added that the movie producer wrote him an email requesting to be on the air to perhaps “yell” about the NRA anti-gun movie.

A report about Weinstein’s anti-NRA movie in the Washington Times by Emily Miller said, “Mr. Weinstein has been watching too many movies if he thinks the good guys find fully-loaded firearms in convenient locations to use only when necessary.” As Miller also noted, The Weinstein Company chairman is one of President Barack Obama’s biggest fundraisers.

The movie mogul also added this his vision involved a desire to scare people away from firearms. After people see the film Weinstein says he believes they will walk away thinking, “Gun stocks – I don’t want to be involved with that stuff. It’s going to be like crash and burn.” It is highly unlikely that hundreds of millions of gun owners across the United States will suddenly stare into their gun cabinet and jump away thinking, “ooh … ick.” Whether or not the gun control movie which appears to be focused heavily on the NRA will sway any minds remains to be seen, but Weinstein’s appearance on the Howard Stern show did generate enough buzz to at least fill theater seats.
