Zoo Parrots Removed From Public View After Swearing At Guests And Laughing About It

by Sloane Hughes
SpinnyNuNu

I need a swearing parrot in my life.

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park | Screenshot from Instagram

They did nothing wrong!!

Parrots are incredibly intelligent birds capable of some truly amazing things, like problem solving and complex communication, and they’re also agents of chaos. They appear in the news more often than most animals because they get up to stuff that, to put it mildly, isn’t very typical. Say, for example, developing an online shopping addiction or getting arrested as an accomplice in a major drug bust. Y’know, just slightly unusual behaviour.

The most recent development in the ongoing chronicles of Havoc Unleashed Upon The World By Parrots comes to us from England, where five African greys had to be removed from public viewing at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. What was their offense?

Swearing at everyone, all the time.

According to the Associated Press, the guilty parties, Eric, Jade, Tyson, Elsie, and Billy, all arrived at the park back in August and were placed in quarantine together before being moved into the main outdoor aviary. And, apparently, the time they spent together was enough for them to learn a very, erm, colorful vocabulary from some of the staff, and then from each other.

The five parrots picked up a couple curse words here and there, and every time the park’s keepers laughed, it encouraged them to keep ramping things up — not only by learning more swear words and using them very liberally, but also by laughing at themselves.

I don’t know if I’ve ever felt more connected to another species than I do to these parrots who yell “fuck off” at passersby and laugh about it afterward.

Nature is so beautiful.

“Most parrots clam up outside,” said Steve Nichols, the zoo’s chief executive, “but for some reason these five relish it.”

The official word is that these magnificent birds with the mouths of sailors have been separated and moved to different parts of the park so they don’t continue to cuss out the park’s guests, which sucks because, let’s be honest, we’d all pay more to visit parrots who swear like a drunk uncle at Thanksgiving dinner.

Newsom’s veto of ethnic studies requirement stirs applause, disappointment

SpinnyNuNu

I went to a catholic university that had an ethnic studies requirement. At the time, I was a Rush Limbaugh-listening, Prop 187-supporting (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_California_Proposition_187) hardcore Republican. I ended up taking Ethnic Politics and to be quite honest, it did not help to change my biases even a tiny bit. In fact, I would argue that it reinforced my annoyance with the Left’s support of racial equality. I was one of only two republicans in the class and I am very ashamed to admit that we openly celebrated results of ’94 midterms the day after that election. We were terrible and I hate 20-year-old me. She was a bitch.

I think backing off from indoctrinating kids from kindergarten on with American exceptionalism is a much better idea than introducing it to them once they’re teenagers.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s veto of Assembly Bill 331, which would have required ethnic studies in high schools, was met with both disappointment and applause.

'The Silence of the Lambs' house is for sale again

SpinnyNuNu

Guys!! It’s only $300k. We could pool our money!

The downsides are that there’s only one bathroom and it borders the railroad tracks.

A killer deal? Just in time for Halloween, the famous house from "The Silence of the Lambs" is for sale in western Pennsylvania.

I have dealt with this situation. People suck.

Just to quickly clarify - the man in the wheelchair is not pulling the baby carriage (it's being pushed by his wife, who took the photo).  She posted this on Facebook and got a ton of pushback:

Why don’t you just walk in the road like normal people?

Why do you need to shop for shoes at Payless if you are in a wheelchair?

Totally fake. Photoshopped. 100%.

You just did this for likes and attention. Staged.

Can’t you just move the carts out if the way like everyone else?

Go around through the grass.

Go through the parking lot made for things with wheels.

Store employees are slacking in their jobs and get paid to get the carts.

Why didn’t you park in handicapped parking?

Why are you so far away from the entrance if you get priority spots up front?

I’ve never seen a sidewalk in a complex like this so this can’t be real.

Why didn’t you drop him off in the loading zone?

You knew your condition so why did you choose to go down the sidewalk if you saw the carts?

She replies to these questions with details about their experience in an article at Medium.  Discussion thread at Reddit.

Say, Did You Remember It’s The 21 Of September? THIS GUY DID

by Sloane Hughes
SpinnyNuNu

I like this guy

YouTube screenshot | Demi Adejuyigbe

This is the best day of the year

Today might not be an officially recognized holiday, or even a stupid made up holiday like National Hot Dog Day (which, by the way, enough), but it is a most holiday day indeed. In case you haven’t checked your calendars yet or you’re just uncultured, it’s September 21. Otherwise known as...

The twentY-first ooooof Sep-tem-BA

Earth, Wind & Fire Day, babyyyyyyy!

And, honestly, bumping “September” on repeat is the only thing that has given me even a crumb of serotonin this whole year. Well, actually, that and Demi Adejuyigbe.

Demi is a comedian, one-third of the show Everything’s Great!, and a screenwriter on The Good Place, among other shows. Evidently, he is ridiculously funny and talented. Since 2016, every year on this date he’s been releasing videos of himself dancing to his own remix of the song that cuts the whole thing down to only the parts that say, “The twenty-first of September,” while wearing a grey t-shirt that also says September 21. Listen, when you have to explain it it doesn’t sound that great, but it is. It is so, so great.

Each September video became more complicated and more of a production than the last, with this year’s (video number five) truly outdoing all the rest. The balloons! The costume change!

He literally put “September 21” on a billboard, got on a truck, and shot confetti out of a trombone! OUT OF A TROMBONE!

Watch the rest below!

How Justice Ginsburg's death could reshape the presidential campaign

SpinnyNuNu

I just honestly have no words for the existential dread that I immediately felt when the notification of RGB’s death popped up on my phone. I feel sick to my stomach and I am just so incredibly heartbroken for this country.

A presidential campaign that was already tugging at the nation's most searing divides has been jolted by the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, potentially reshaping the election.

The discussion thread at Trashy has comments from people who have already encountered these in real life.  These do not follow the mask mandate rules in some states.   Business owners and employees can (and do) refuse to serve patrons wearing these travesties, as for example...
"I do security for a bar and we've already had several people trying to come in with those thinking they're being clever. Novak Djokovic kicked out of US Open after hitting line judge with ball

SpinnyNuNu

This headline is slightly misleading.

>>> trailing Pablo Carreno Busta 6-5 in the first set, Djokovic — who was seeded and ranked No. 1 and an overwhelming favorite for the championship — angrily smacked a ball behind him. The ball flew right at the line judge, who dropped to her knees at the back of the court and reached for her neck

He was pissed, smacked a ball behind him without paying attention to where it went and paid the consequences.

Novak Djokovic was kicked out of the U.S. Open for accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball.

How to buy votes when you're president

by noreply@blogger.com (Minnesotastan)
SpinnyNuNu

The American people are incapable of nuance and will be unlikely to grasp either concept.

"The U.S. government will implement an across-the-board payroll tax deferral for about 1.3 million federal employees starting in mid-September, forcing some workers to take a temporary financial boost now that they likely will have to repay next year.

The policy, confirmed Monday by a senior administration official, comes in response to a widely panned policy directive issued by President Trump earlier in August. Unions have sharply criticized the government’s decision, fearing federal workers may not have a choice in whether to take the deferral — resulting in them receiving smaller paychecks in 2021 until the past-due taxes are paid off.

Trump’s order specifically targets the 6.2 percent tax that employers deduct from their workers’ wages so the government can fund Social Security. His directive postpones payment of those taxes until January, at which point employers are required to start collecting back what is owed, perhaps by withholding double the amount they usually take until May. The deferral applies only to people who earn up to $4,000 on a biweekly basis, and less than $104,000 annually.

"See - your paycheck just got bigger.  You're welcome.  Vote for me. "

Oh, also, if you see reports of "wages going up" recently... that's bullshit too, as explained by Bloomberg:

Measures of U.S. wage growth which have surged despite staggering levels of unemployment during the coronavirus pandemic reflect disproportionate job losses among low-income workers, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly argues in a new study that she co-authored.

Although the unemployment rate jumped to a multi-decade record 14.7% in April, median weekly earnings increased by more than 10% in the second quarter over the same period last year. This rise does not mean wages are increasing, but is occurring as more low-income workers than higher-wage earners lost their jobs during the pandemic. That left an overall pool of higher-earning workers from which to calculate the data, Erin Crust, Mary Daly and Bart Hobijn wrote in an economic letter published Monday on the San Francisco Fed’s website.

Cincinnati Reds suspend announcer 'effective immediately' after using anti-gay slur on air

SpinnyNuNu

Couple things:

>>> "If I have hurt anyone out there, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith."

First, if you find yourself in a position where you need to apologize for something, don’t couch it in “if I offended anyone” because that means you aren’t sorry for the thing you did wrong, you are only sorry that someone took offense. Make an unqualified, absolute apology.

Second, I am so fucking tired of people using their faith to pretend like they couldn’t really be all that bad. His mention of being a “man of faith” made me think, “Oh, that actually explains the homophobic comment.” It does nothing to make me think he’s somehow not a gawdammed homophobic ass.

Longtime Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennaman appeared to use homophobic slur while live on air Wednesday, according to sources from ESPN.
