Fortune rapporterar att Ouya försöker bli uppköpt snarast för att kunna betala tillbaka en skuld till investmentbolaget TriplePoint Capital. Som källa anger Fortune ett internt PM som läckt ut. Ouya är en Androidbaserad spelkonsol.

Satsningen inleddes sommaren 2012, då företaget sökte finansiering via Kickstarter – målet nåddes på åtta timmar. Konsolen blev dock ingen större försäljningsframgång och även om tillverkaren fortsatt förbättra systemet ser det mörkt ut för Ouya – inte minst genom att Googles egna Android TV numera erbjuder en liknande och mer mångsidig lösning.

Do indeed “keep pushing” your wife and her daughter–you’ll soon find that the scads of increased leisure time you find yourself trying to fill will be blessedly more predictable.

Google har presenterat Project Fi i USA som är en slags virtuell operatörslösning som ska ge användare tryggare mobiluppkoppling genom att välja den anslutning som är bäst för stunden. Sökjätten samarbetar inledningsvis med Sprint och T-Mobile i USA och Nexus 6 är första telefonen att få tjänsten.

Project Fi växlar sömlöst mellan Wi-Fi och nätverken för Sprint och T-Mobile för att dynamiskt ge användaren bästa och snabbaste uppkopplingen. Över en miljon öppna Wi-Fi-hotspots finns med i Googles databas och företaget menar att dessa punkter har verifierats så de är snabba och pålitliga.

Tjänsten innehåller även inbyggd kryptering för öppna Wi-Fi-nätverk. När användaren är uppkopplad mot ett starkt Wi-Fi-nätverk sker samtal över Wi-Fi. Om personen hamnar utanför räckvidden för Wi-Fi under samtalets gång växlar Project Fi automatiskt och sömlöst till operatörsnätverk.

Project Fi-användares telefonnummer håller till i molnet, så det går att ringa och skicka SMS med i stort sett alla telefoner, surfplattor och bärbara datorer. Google menar att de anpassat sig till vår flerskärmade tillvaro.

Google använder en fast prissättning för Project Fi. För $20 i månaden får amerikanska kunder hela grundpaketet, inklusive samtal, SMS, Wi-Fi och täckning i över 120 länder. Mobildata kostar $10 per GB. Om användaren betalar $30 i månaden för 3GB och bara använder 1,4GB en viss månad får personen $16 tillbaka.

Tjänsten har lanserats i USA men kommer eventuellt till andra regioner efterhand, även om det i så fall lär dröja.
