Fan creates covers for Animal Crossing: New Leaf songs
YouTube user and musician misterrandell has been "completely obsessing" over the latest Animal Crossing title, New Leaf, and he's found a way to demonstrate his love in a festive way: song covers.
The musician provides incredibly accurate, full-vocal renditions of two songs from the game's singing sailor, Kapp'n. You can check out his covers in the videos above and below, and — hey! Stop mashing that button and just listen.

World Of Watercraft: Freebooter
John DruryTo back or not to back?!

I’m reclaiming the RPS ‘piracy‘ tag. Look at all those posts that have nothing to do with cannons or scurvy. We’re gamers! We should know all about balls and vitamin deficiency! I want happy stories about fun games, not sad stories about an industry trying to deal with people and the internet. I’d guess that part of the problem is that there aren’t many games about the life of a pirate, but Freebooter is hoping to change that. It’s a procedurally generated open-world pirate game that’s just popped up on the horizon Kickstarter. Pitch below.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf on sale through Amazon
John DruryIf for some reason you didn't have it yet.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Nintendo's latest entry in the animal-filled life sim franchise, is currently on sale through Amazon for $26.59.
The sale, which knocks about 24 percent off the game's usual $34.99 price tag, only applies to the physical copy of the game. New Leaf puts players in charge of their own town as mayor. In addition to decorating and customizing their homes, players will make decisions that affect the entire town, including writing new ordinances, building facilities and more.
The game operates on real-world time and has special in-game events and time-specific functions. Players can also connect with friends by entering their towns to trade items, play mini-games and more.

Female Ohio Democrat Introduces Bill To Regulate The Reproductive Health Of Men
One thing is certain about the bevy of legislation targeting women being introduced by conservative men. Women are mad and they aren’t taking it anymore. One female lawmaker in Ohio has introduced bill that would regulate men’s reproductive health.
According to the Dayton Daily News, State Senator Nina Turner introduced SB 307, which requires men to visit a sex therapist, undergo a cardiac stress test, and get their sexual partner to sign a notarized affidavit confirming impotency in order to get a prescription for Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs. The bill also requires men who take the drugs to be continually “tested for heart problems, receive counseling about possible side effects and receive information about “pursuing celibacy as a viable lifestyle choice.”"
PS4 evolved from lessons learned developing the PS3, lead architect Mark Cerny says
John DruryOh hey.
An acknowledgement that Sony had been too insular and needed to share its knowledge during the development of the PlayStation 3 greatly informed the PlayStation 4's creation, the next-gen console's lead architect Mark Cerny said.
Speaking at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona, Cerny said the PlayStation 3 launched in 2006 with what Cerny characterized as a "weak lineup." This was due, in part, to internal struggles at Sony to unite the company's disparate divisions and its late realization that it should share its "proprietary first-party tools" with third-party developers who struggled to develop for the console's Cell processor.
From 2005-2007, the company had a "unifying experience" characterized by international collaboration,...
Steam Trading Cards launch this week, summer sale seems imminent
John DruryGet ready to load up on indie games!
If you've been reading this and wondering why you can feel your wallet shaking, it's because it's already sensed the likelihood of an imminent Steam summer sale. Valve signed off today's news by saying, "Making trading cards available to all Steam users is a step towards an event we think everyone can be excited about..." Holy tease, Batman!
Steam's summer round of price pounding usually begins around late June, early July, so it's certainly about time. We'll be watching the skies for minus signs and weighty percentages.

100% true. iTunes and Steam both prove it. DRM is a shitty product - always has been and always will be - because the actual entertainment piece attached to the DRM inherently suffers for its inclusion.
Bottom line: your anti-piracy product only serves to demonstrate the appeal of piracy.
(via spytap)Surgeon Simulator 2013 swaps Team Fortress 2 characters into starring roles with new update
John DruryADD IT TO THE PILE SHAWN

In addition to added support of the Oculus Rift virtual realty headset and Razer Hydra motion controls, Surgeon Simulator 2013, Bossa Studios' surgical simulation game, will let players swap characters from Valve's Team Fortress 2 into the surgeon and patient roles.
The Team Fortress Medic and the Heavy will be available as the operator and operated-on, respectively, with the game's next free update, which is slated to launch over the weekend.
"It's absolutely hilarious," Bossa Studios co-founder Imre Jele told Polygon. "Working with Valve has been amazing because they are flexible and cool guys. We said, 'It would be great if we could have those two characters in Surgeon,' and they said, 'That's fantastic, let's do that.'"

Xbox One no longer requires online checks, used games policy same as Xbox 360
John DruryUh huh. "no longer accurate"

Microsoft is backing down from many of the restrictive software policies it had previously outlined for its next-generation console, the Xbox One. An update to the Xbox One website details the almost total reversal of restrictions related to online check-ins, the ability to play games offline, region locking and secondhand sales of games.
In short, Xbox One owners won't be required to check in to the internet every 24 hours to play their games and used games will work on the system as they did on Xbox 360.
"As a result of feedback from the Xbox community, we have changed certain policies for Xbox One," Microsoft wrote on its official web site, saying its previously announced policies were "no longer accurate." Those changes were...

YouTube user Vaecon has taken a VR tour of Alexander Bruce's high contrast "psychological exploration game" Antichamber with the Oculus Rift and posted it online.
Check out the video above to see the first few levels of Antichamber rendered in stereoscopic 3D. It's also Vaecon's first time paying the game, so you'll get to see him suss out the puzzles in real time as the game's recently released double album soundtrack plays in the background.

DayZ on the Xbox One, ball is in Microsoft's court
John DruryMicrosoft to indie devs, "Pay up and get a publisher" you know, the two things indie devs are totally about: publishers and publishing fees.

Dean Hall, the lead designer of DayZ, will publish his survival zombie game on Xbox One if Microsoft does away with the self-publishing restrictions and software update fees imposed on independent developers with its next-generation console, he told Polygon.
"I mean, I like the console. They're still really early on in the process," Hall explained. "They are all still up in the air, we still don't know what will happen. We wouldn't even think about [a console version] until we release it on PC. So it is still a very unknown quantity and we have got see whether Sony will deliver on what they said. And there is some concerning stuff about the PS4 as well. Like, the sun is not shining out of Sony's ass or anything."
"But with the...

Fez 2 announced [update: Disasterpeace involved]
John DruryHa! Maybe I'll see this game before I'm 40.
In a surprise announcement at the end of the Horizon conference, it was revealed that Fez 2 is in development at Polytron. The brief trailer revealed little else, though the soundtrack sounded very similar to the work that composer Disasterpeace did for the original Fez.
Update: The video's description confirms Disasterpeace's involvement.

Nintendo: If devs are worried about used game sales, they should make better games
John DruryOH SNAP!

"We have been very clear, we understand that used games are a way for some consumers to monetize their games," Fils-Aime said. "They will buy a game, play it, bring it back to their retailer to get credit for their next purchase. Certainly, that impacts games that are annualized and candidly also impacts games that are maybe undifferentiated much more than [it] impacts Nintendo content. Why is that? Because the replayability of our content is super strong. The consumer wants to keep playing Mario Kart. The consumer want to keep playing New Super Mario Bros. They want to keep playing Pikmin. So we see that the trade-in frequency on Nintendo content is much less than the industry average – much, much less. So for us, we have been able...
PlayStation 4 user interface demonstrated in new video
John Drury..as demonstrated by the most punchable people ever!
A new video released by Sony this week reveals some of the user interface and social functionality on the PlayStation 4 — namely online shopping, text communication and video sharing.
The video, posted above, shows three friends playing Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall, and communicating with one another using the console's chat features. One of the three sees the other two playing Shadow Fall, asks how it is, and begins downloading it from her mobile phone onto her PS4. It also showcases the splash game each game will have in the console's main menu, which includes options for video sharing and a "Like" button reminiscent of that of Facebook's.
Check out the video above for the full UI demonstration.
Old Friends
Here is what I don't get: Nintendo think Mega Man is relevant enough to feature in the next Brawl, but Capcom is happy enough to let it fade into obscurity.
I guess Nintendo lives of nostalgia, and Capcom is "moving foward" but if games had heart, I can see Mario giving him a helping hand.

Command & Conquer Has Generals From All Walks Of Life
John DruryThis could work well as a free to play.

The game formerly known as Generals 2, probably also known within internal EA circles as ‘please rescue the franchise after we repeatedly tried to murder it with really silly decisions’ but officially known as simply Command & Conquer has fully broken cover at last. In what way? Well, this week is E3. I’ll give you three guesses as to how an upcoming videogame might try to promote itself right now, and the first two don’t count.

Report: PS4 will be region-free for games
John DruryCool!

The PlayStation 4 will be region-free when it comes to games, said Sony's Brad Douglas on Twitter.
Douglas, who handles third-party relations for Sony Computer Entertainment, said he was told by the company's public relations department that there is "no region locking."
We've reached out to Sony for confirmation, and will update this article with any information we receive.
The PlayStation 3 was also region-free for games; Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, however, along with PlayStation Network content, were region-locked. A Microsoft spokesperson did not confirm to Polygon a report from last month saying the Xbox One would be region-locked.
PlayStation 4 has 'no restrictions' on used games, no always-on connectivity
John DrurySold! Indies, no always on, same level of DRM were used to… Looks like I am PS4 for the start of the next generation.

A smiling Jack Tretton revealed that the PlayStation 4 will have "no restrictions" on used games - as well as reiterating the system will not require an always-on internet connection for single-player games.
In a slide detailing Sony's policies on used games and connectivity, Tretton confirmed that disc-based PS4 games can be traded in without restriction, borrowed from friends, or kept for life.
"Yes, that's a good thing," he said to a cheering group of fans at the Pre-E3 2013 Sony Press Briefing.
In May, Sony President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida said that the company never considered an always-on PlayStation 4 console.
"Did we consider it? No, we didn't consider it," Yoshida said. "The main reason being that many countries don't have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw [that] do not really have robust Internet."
Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One console will require authentication, at least every 24 hours, and has restrictions on trading games to stores and lending them to friends.
