Cooper Griggs

Too bad you'll look like a cock.

LG has made an action camera that can live stream to YouTube (or anywhere else) without a phone or WiFi. The LG Action CAM LTE (clearly, hours spent on the name) has onboard 4G to beam video direct to the web. The camera itself looks like an elongate...

Now THERE'S a cool idea!

Canon's first EOS M may have landed with a thud, but things are getting much better for the mirrorless system. The company launched the excellent EOS M3 late last year, and just revealed a very interesting lens, the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. It's...

Disney's remote control robots move just like people

Imagine walking into a Disney theme park and being greeted by Mike from Monsters Inc. A life-size Mike, perfectly spherically-proportioned on those spindly legs. Fitting a human into a costume like that is impossible. That's why Disney Research is bu...

“free” wifi

most pubs advertise free wifi, but half of them make you register to harvest your info. the other half post their password at the bar.

i used to divide up pubs by free house vs. brewery-loyal. now my devotion lies with those that post their password at the bar.

ah, but give me a free house with the password at the bar, and now we’re talkin’!

CDC labs sanctioned for mishandling potential bioweapons

by Mariella Moon
Cooper Griggs

There's a scary headline.

You'd think an agency like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would be extremely careful in handling potential bioweapons. But according to a report by USA Today, at least one CDC lab's permit was secretly suspended in recent years for "s...

Surreal Monochromatic GIFs by Carl Burton

by Christopher Jobson

tumblr_o515shCl8I1r4dhkuo1_500

Digital artist and animator Carl Burton creates quick atmospheric GIFs that blend elements of science fiction and surrealism. Glittering illuminated tentacles appear to twist through the dark while neon lasers emerge from deep pools of water. Much of what you see here represents Burton’s personal experiments, but the NYC-based creative also lends his illustrative style to images for long-form publications around the web. He works primarily with Cinema 4D, Photoshop, and After Effects, spending several hours or even days on a single GIF depending on its complexity. You can see more of his work on Tumblr. Robot hand learns to twirl objects on its own

by Jon Fingas

a little freaky

Robots can (usually) walk or roll around just fine, but hand control has often proven elusive: it's hard to give them the same kind of finger dexterity as a human. However, University of Washington researchers just got much closer to fulfilling that...

Right. Because they've got nothing better to do. Idiots.

Minimalistic One Line Tattoos By Mo Gangi

by Kate Sierzputowski
Cooper Griggs

I like the first one. The rest, meh.

MoGanji_03

All images via Mo Ganji

Berlin-based Mo Ganji produces tattoos that utilize a single line, black images with little more detail than a couple of dots to offset his swirling strokes. The images are all figural, yet range from elephants and koi fish to more gestural images of half-drawn faces. Each work is breathtaking in its simplicity, stark images that relate to the artist’s own views of mastering a simple and honest life. To check out more of Ganji’s work, head over to his Instagram.
