Start Burning Off That Turkey With This Wood and Leather Weight Set

Rarely does fitness gear prioritize form over functionality (understandably) and that's why most of the time exercise machines and ellipticals are hidden away in a basement workout room. But wouldn't you be more inclined to exercise if your workout gear was in the living room next to the TV? This stylish set of woo and leather weights makes it more convenient to stay in shape because you won't feel you have to hide it away.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Is the Ultimate Thanksgiving Flick

by Kate Knibbs

If you are going to sit down tonight and watch a post-turkey movie with the assemblage of humans who share your genetic matter, I highly recommend Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. The 1987 John Hughes flick is funny and touching. Watching John Candy play a well-meaning but obnoxious slob is like watching Michael Jordan play basketball or Maria Callas sing opera. You are watching the master at the top of his game.

Amiibo is apparently compatible with Moscow's subway system

by Jonathan Holmes

[Update: Our Russian friends in the comments are reporting that the people in the video are saying that the Samus Amiibo doesn't work with the Moscow Subway. I guess in Soviet Russia, green means stop and red means go.]

Like this trailer for Star Wars Episode VII, it's possible that this video of someone using the Samus Amiibo to gain access to Moscow's subway system could be an elaborate fake. It's pretty convincing though. It it's real, chances are either Moscow or Nintendo are going to have to change the way their NFC systems work in the near future.

If this leads to an official press conference between Vladimir Putin and Satoru Iwata on Amiibo politics and the right to freedom of near field communication speech, I will literally die and go to heaven that very instant. The only way it could get better is if Pussy Riot reforms as an all Amiibo punk band with a new album called Settle it in Smash

Far Cry 4, As Told By Steam Reviews

Now that Far Cry 4 has been out for a while, players have had a chance to experience its absurd chaos. So it might not surprise you to hear that people have a lot of amusing things to say about Far Cry 4.

Judging from Far Cry 4's Steam reviews, people seem particularly taken with the wildlife found in Kyrat. That makes sense—the animals are a huge chunk of what makes Far Cry 4 so good. But that's not the only thing people like to mention. Let's take a look, shall we?

A More Efficient Solar Panel Can Be Made With Old Blu-Ray Discs

Yes, a Blu-ray copy of Police Story 3: Supercop was destroyed for the sake of science. It turns out that the nanostructure of Blu-ray disc makes them especially well-suited to soaking up light—exactly what you'd want with a solar panel.

How the World's First Computer Was Rescued From the Scrap Heap

by Soulskill
anavictoriasaavedra sends this quote from Wired: "Eccentric billionaires are tough to impress, so their minions must always think big when handed vague assignments. Ross Perot's staffers did just that in 2006, when their boss declared that he wanted to decorate his Plano, Texas, headquarters with relics from computing history. Aware that a few measly Apple I's and Altair 880's wouldn't be enough to satisfy a former presidential candidate, Perot's people decided to acquire a more singular prize: a big chunk of ENIAC, the "Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer." The ENIAC was a 27-ton, 1,800-square-foot bundle of vacuum tubes and diodes that was arguably the world's first true computer. The hardware that Perot's team diligently unearthed and lovingly refurbished is now accessible to the general public for the first time, back at the same Army base where it almost rotted into oblivion.

The newest incarnation of Super Smash Bros. is the fastest selling game on Nintendo's Wii U console, the company reported Tuesday, with almost half a million copies sold in the first three days of release in the United States.

Nintendo said 490,000 physical and digital copies of its mash-up character fighting game were sold between Nov. 21 and Nov. 23

Previously, Mario Kart 8 was the fastest selling Wii U game, and though Nintendo didn't disclose how many copies it sold in the first three days, it did sell 2.28 million copies worldwide during its first two months of release. Read more...

Watch a semi-truck jump 83 feet over a Formula 1 car, just for fun

Sorry, Vin DieselEMC just made your Fast and the Furious antics look like child's play

EMC, along with the Lotus F1 Team, recently set the Guinness World Record for longest jump length (83 feet, 7 inches) by having a semi-truck bound over an F1 racer

Professional stunt driver Mike Ryan drove the truck and designed the stunt with Martin Ivanov steering the F1 car, Car and Driver reported. Coincidentally, Car and Driver states that both men have worked as stunt drivers in not only the Fast and the Furious series, but also the James Bond and Bourne films Read more...

Underwater monster captured on video for the first time ever

Underwater monster captured on video for the first time ever

This sea creature may look like some scary 3D animation of an underwater monster but it's not. It's completely real. What you're looking at is a deep sea anglerfish known as the Black Seadevil. This sea monster's existence shows that sometimes reality is crazier and more twisted than our scariest nightmares.

Need something free to pass the time? 0h h1 is sort of like binary sudoku

by Darren Nakamura

I have always been an unapologetic fan of Minesweeper. I have been playing it for longer than any other single game, and I will be playing it as long as I can imagine. It never changes in any fundamental way, but it always works to pass some time when I just want to switch my brain into pure logic mode. 0h h1 is the same kind of thing; it could be solved by a pretty simple computer program, but the act of going through it is still mechanically satisfying.

It almost works like sudoku or Picross but with only two possible entries, red or blue. There can never be three or more of any one color consecutively, there are always the same number of reds and blues in each row or column, and no two rows or columns can be identical. With those rules, the game is set to run as many times as the player wants to play, and it's all free.

It is adapted from the Japanese logic puzzle (of course) called Takuzu, and since it is a simple digital version of an existing mechanic, it is available to play in browser or through the Android or iOS mobile apps for free. Check it out if you have some time to waste.

This Is Why You Shouldn't Try to Outrun a Grizzly Bear

by John Farrier

(Video Link)

This video shows a grizzly bear running in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Can you keep up? The Daily Telegraph (warning: auto-start video) says that grizzly bears can run up to 35 MPH, which is well over Usain Bolt's top speed of 27 MPH.

But as the old joke goes: I don't have to outrun the bear. I just have to outrun you.

This trick to show how invisible air moves seems like magic

by Omar Kardoudi on Sploid, shared by Casey Chan to Gizmodo

This trick to show how invisible air moves seems like magic

This is called Schlieren optics, a cool technique that allows us to see how invisible air moves. Thanks to the difference of density between hot and cold air, light changes speed, bends, and creates visual distortions. Exactly the same thing that happens in the mirages but captured in a controlled environment.

Video: 60 Seconds of painful breaking bones from movie fight scenes

Oh man. I almost couldn't get through this video because the non stop crunch of bones breaking in these fight scenes got to me. Even though I know full well that movies aren't real and that all these broken bones are just visual tricks and sound effects, I still cringed. A lot.
