Burned up my old lap top and moved to east bumblefuck South MS, needless to say I miss my daily does of " what the fuck is that?!" Hope you all have been well.

One minute, you see what you think might be the meekest man ever trying to sell you a keyboard from the 90’s, then he busts out his drum skills on said keyboard and you realize one of two things:
One, I need to own that keyboard.
Two, I vastly underestimated both that man and that keyboard, and learned a valuable lesson today about judging a book by its cover.
Oh, and I’d LOVE to see what that guy can do with a keytar.

(A woman approaches me at the counter, looking over her shoulder as if she is looking out for someone.)
Me: “Can I… help you, ma’am?”
Woman: “Yes, um, I was wondering if you had any books about…” *drops her voice to an urgent whisper* “… the ‘F’ word.”
Me: “Well, um, we have the ‘Kama Sutra’ in our world cultures section and our romance novel and erotica are—”
Woman: “No, no! The other ‘F’-word.”
Me: *thoroughly confused* “I’m afraid I’m not following ,ma’am…”
Woman: “The ‘F’-word, you know!”
Me: “Really, ma’am, I don’t. Would you like to write it down for me to—”
Woman: “FOR CHRIST’S SAKE! FEMINISM! I’m looking for a book on feminism! Now the whole store knows my business! THANK YOU!”
(She proceeds to quickly flee the store, apologizing to other patrons as she leaves.)
Next Customer: “Is she going to be all right?”
Me: “I certainly hope so.”

Spock the centaur is . . . fascinating.
He's half horse and half Vulcan. Specifically, Spock is the front end of a Vulcan and the back end of a horse. If he was the front end of a horse and the back end of a Vulcan, he would also be a centaur.
Of course, Spock is actually half human. So what we're looking at is one quarter human, one quarter Vulcan, and one half horse.

Random thought: Perhaps I should write some fan fiction inspired by the Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" in which the crew of the Enterprise encounters a bitterly-divided race of centaurs with varying top and bottom halves.

A new study suggests that two-thirds of cancer cases can be put down to the bad luck of random DNA mutations rather than unhealthy lifestyles or inherited genes.

When it finally rolls out of the garage, Bloodhound SSC will hit a dizzying 1,000mph . But before it can do that, the team behind the vehicle needs to put it all together.

You might be in a panic after re-reading a string of textually explicit novellas you vaguely remember typing at 2 o’clock this morning. While that train wreck likely can’t be undone, all trace of it could have been erased from your phone and anyone else’s if you had shared it using an app called Strings.
The app requires all parties to already have the app installed… Read More
Cesium 134 and cesium 137: The two isotopes that were released into the Pacific Ocean when an earthquake ruined the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on the eastern coast of Japan in 2011. The panic over the leakage was instantaneous in the US—but a new study shows how long it really took.
Slingshot-whisperer Joerg Sprave has proven time and again that the rubber band weapons are awesome, but the one thing they've always been missing was a nice, satisfying bang. Until now.

Ketchup and fries go hand in hand like, ... well, how about potato and tomato?
Meet the "Ketchup 'N' Fries" pomato or tomtato (previously on Neatorama), a chimera plant made from grafting a potato and tomato plant together. It is available from the Territorial Seed Company of Oregon. Above the ground, the plant is a cherry tomato plant, whereas below the ground you'll find white potatoes.
The website states that this kind of frankenplant grafting is possible because both potato and tomato belong to the Solanaceae (nightshade) family.
Thanks Tiffany!

Like the European artisans of long ago, Craig Kovatch felt inspired by great, martyred heroes. Saint Optimus Prime of Cybertron is the subject of his 121-piece stained glass composition showing the enhaloed leader of the Autobots. It is suitable for both decoration and veneration. You can see more photos here.
Kovatch is considering making a similar of work of the villain Starscream. It's prudent of him to hedge his bets. Should the Decepticons emerge victorious, such a piece could be useful.

The gizzly bear in this photo has been sedated. That's why the woman in the photo is still alive. You can't outfight a grizzly and you certainly can't outrun one.
