Disney Princesses Dressed in the Fashions of the Years Their Films Came Out

by John Farrier

Disney princess movies are timeless, but perhaps they'd be dated if the characters dressed for the times. Beatrice Lorén drew 11 Disney princesses in the fashions popular when their movies were released, from 1937 to 2012. You can view them all at the link.

Pictured above are Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Pocahontas.

This Just Might Be the Cutest Finn Around

by Jill Harness

Little Finn here just happens to be the son of John Nettles, photographer at City Light Studios, and a huge fan of Adventure Time.  All he needs now is a Jake to follow him around.

Bloody Syringe Shirley Temples

by Jill Harness

Shirley Temples are delicious and look pretty, but if you serve them before they've been mixed, they can make a fantastic Halloween drink. Just fill syringes with grenadine and serve them up in a glass of 7-Up.

How to Make Bell Jars Out of Soda Bottles

by Jill Harness

If you look at a variety of Halloween decor sites like I do, you'll often see decoration suggestions that require the use of a bell jar, but these can be kind of expensive -especially if you only intend to use them for Halloween decor. Fortunately, you can make your own fake bell jars relatively simply with soda bottles. Seeing Things has the instructions you need to do it.

World Order: The Music. The Suits. The MOVES!

by Alex Santoso

We're rooting for Japanese dance group/band World Order to achieve world domination so we can walk on the street just like 'em! The band's unique synchronized dance moves, done with their signature military precision, are just fascinating to watch.

Here's the band's new Imperialism music video, shot in Washington, D.C.:

"Machine Civilization" music video, the band's biggest hit (so far):

"Permanent Revolution":

"Boy Meets Girl"

Recently, the group performed at the Budokan's 360° stage:

What? You thought those were funny? Before you make fun of them, just know that Genki Sudo, the lead singer of World Order is a bona fide MMA martial artist who can surely kick your butt in style.

Jerry Seinfeld Describes How to Write a Joke

by John Farrier

(Video Link)

(Photo: New York Times)

How does a master comedian write jokes? Jerry Seinfeld writes his stand-up routines just like he wrote his television scripts: by longhand on paper tablets. In this video by the New York Times, Seinfeld discusses the development of his famous Pop-Tart joke:

I've probably been working on this for two years. Two years? I mean usually I'd write a bit in a couple days. It's a long time to spend on something that means absolutely nothing. But that's what I do; that's what people want me to do...is spend a lot of time wastefully. So that then I can waste their time.

What's better than one Maru? Maru playing with another cat. ERMAGAH

更新が滞り、ご心配をおかけいたしましたが、まるはとても元気です。
この間に――
Sorry, I’ve been slow on blog post update.
Maru is doing just fine.
By the way…

「同居人が一人増えました。」
Maru:[We have a new housemate.]

それに伴い、追いかけっこや、走り回って遊ぶのが大好きなまるの
良い遊び相手になってくれることを願って――
And I found a new friend for Maru to play with,
maybe a partner for him to enjoy chasing and running around together…

「このおかしな生き物はなんですか。」
Maru:[What is this funny creature, pal?]

A kitten came to our house from an animal hospital
as a new member or our family.
Maru has been our only cat for six years.
So we first had the kitty for two weeks to see
if Maru and he can get along well with each other.
But in only three days, the six-year old cat and
the two-month young kitty started to have fun time together.

「すばしっこい奴め!」
Maru:[Hey, you’re so quick!]

現在、心配していたチビ猫との関係は、期待していた以上に良好。
まるの気分次第では、一つの箱に入って朝まで寝ていることも。
今後は不定期更新となりますが、まるは元気にしていますので、心配しないでくださいね。
Now, they seem to like each other more than I thought.
When Maru is in a good mood, he even let the small one sleep
in his own box all night.

From now on, I will be updating this blog randomly.
But please don’t worry as Maru is doing fine.

What Bears Do in the Woods

by Miss Cellania

The Alberta Parks Department trained a camera trap on a particular tree to see what happens. The results are shown in this time-lapse video. You'll see plenty of different animals, but one bear decided this was the best tree in the world -and told all his friends!  -via Metafilter

Rare Six-legged Octopus Found, Eaten

by Miss Cellania
Missteenwordpower

Ooops! I hope rare anomalies taste delicious.

Labros Hydras of Washington, D.C. was vacationing in Greece when he caught an octopus. It only had six legs -not because of injury, but because it was a "hexapus," which only grew six legs. Such an octopus is so rare that only one other specimen has ever been documented. Hydras did not know that when he killed the octopus and took it to a taverna to have it cooked.

The chef refused to cook it for him because it was so rare and told Labros he should have let the octopus live.

But the hungry father-of-two went and fried it for his supper anyway and served it up with a slice of tomato, lemon and a solitary salad leaf.

After finishing it off he decided to check out what the chef had said – and felt sick when he realised what he had done.

No-one had ever heard of a six-legged hexapus until five years ago when one nicknamed Henry was found off the North Wales coast.

Hydras then took photographs to Greek scientists to help document the hexapus. Scientists say it is not a new species, but a rare yet natural anomaly. Link -via Arbroath

Forget Obedience School, Your Dog Needs to Learn to Skateboard

by Jill Harness

(Video Link)

We've all seen videos of skateboarding bulldogs before, but for owners who aren't quite sure how to get their dogs rolling, Ivan Juscamaita is here to help. His weekly school session in Brazil is the first organized effort to educate dogs to skateboard.

Excuse me while I book a flight to Brazil really quick...not to train my dog, but just to watch a class and die of cuteness.

Bold and Brassy Vintage Napier Jewelry

by Miss Cellania

Napier jewelry was quite fashionable in the mid-20th century. Celebrities from Marilyn Monroe to Mamie Eisenhower wore the avant-garde Napier designs. Now a jewelry collector and a former Napier salesman have collaborated to publish a definitive history of the company. A lot of the jewelry company's popularity can be traced to Frederick W. Rettenmeyer, head designer for the firm from 1907 to 1964.

At work, Rettenmeyer had the space and materials to let his imagination run wild—which is how he came with some of Napier’s most popular pieces such as the company’s first 1950s charm bracelet.

“One of the things a jewelry company does, particularly Napier, is accumulate thousands of pieces like stampings, beads, and stones,” Meoni says. “Because Mr. Rettenmeyer was such a fool of a guy, none of that stuff ever got thrown away. If we had to buy 10 gross of beads, which would be 1,200 to 1,400 beads, and we only used 200 because it was a limited production, the remaining would go into a box and be put up in the attic storage.

“Rettenmeyer’s genius was that he would wander through this storage area every once in a while and grab one of these beads, one of these stampings, and one of these findings. He’d take them to his office and monkey with them until he’d created an interesting piece of jewelry.”

Great Super Short Horror Stories

by John Farrier

Redditor meiguess challenged people to write terrifying stories in no more than 2 sentences. Here are some of the great responses:

marino1310:

I just saw my reflection blink.

justAnotherMuffledVo:

I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.”

Graboid27:

I can't move, breathe, speak or hear and it's so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely, I would have been cremated instead.

skuppy:

My daughter won't stop crying and screaming in the middle of the night. I visit her grave and ask her to stop, but it doesn't help.

CPS to lay off 1,036 teachers

by By Noreen S. Ahmed-Ullah and Kim Geiger, Chicago Tribune reporters
Missteenwordpower

My DePaul teacher had the foresight about these layoffs! Last year they had to hire all these arts teachers to say they had a well-rounded curriculum, but who do you think is going to get the axe? UGGGGHHH

Latest round follows 855 job cuts last month

Citing a $1 billion budget deficit, Chicago Public Schools will lay off more than 2,000 employees, more than 1,000 of them teachers, the district said Thursday night.
