image

“From the time that I was 6 years old I had the mania of drawing the form of objects. As I came to be 50 I had published an infinity of designs; but all that I have produced before the age of 70 is not worth being counted. It is at the age of 73 that I have somewhat begun to understand the structure of true nature, of animals and grasses, and trees and birds, and fishes and insects; consequently at 80 years of age I shall have made still more progress; at 90 I hope to have penetrated into the mystery of things; at 100 years of age I should have reached decidedly a marvelous degree, and when I shall be 110, all that I do, every point and every line, shall be instinct with life — and I ask all those who shall live as long as I do to see if I have not kept my word.”

Giving In

Really wanted to channel in my Old "I Just Discovered Johnny The Homicidal Maniac" Phase of drawing for this one. Not detailed enough, but dammit I tried with the head and eyes and such. Well! Anywho! More next week.

#1071; Old Dog, Oldest Trick

by David Malki

It's like you can't even unhinge your jaw and let the dark pour out unheeded into the world at large anymore, without the all-consuming void gushing from your black center devouring the stars and the birds and the sun and the elements that combine to make love possible!

Furniture-maker-turned-sculptor James McNabb (previously) just opened a new exhibition of work titled Metros at Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami. McNabb continues his exploration of architectural shapes using an improvised form of woodworking frequently described as “sketching with a bandsaw.” Without regard to the design or stability a true architect might utilize, he instead works with more abstract shapes cut from repurposed and exotic woods which in turn become component pieces for larger sculptures resembling wheels or tables. McNabb shares via email:

I compare hyperrealistic painting to fine woodworking. Both are slow, tedious, detail oriented process that require great care and consideration through every stage of making. In contrast, I compare my style of rapid bandsaw mark making to the fast paced nature of spray can art. It’s my attempt at “urban woodworking”.

Metros will be on view through October 28, 2014 and you can see more of McNabb’s recent work right here.

Secret Menu

by Wes + Tony

''YOU EVER BEEN DR. PEPPER BOARDED?''

Hey everyone! Here are some items from the SUPER secret menu, that you should order next time you get a chance:

A Burger with EXTRA Cheese – Like a burger, but with additional cheese!

A Burrito – Ordered from a burger place, they are legally required to go find one.

Ghost Droppings – Glowing traces of the supernatural, usually from fast food joints with a long, storied history or built above a burial ground.

A Whole Turkey – Keep in mind for Thanksgiving!

A Car Tire – Bring an appetite!

“Actually, two of those” – This secret phrase doubles the quantity of the previous item.

An Empty Bag – Save yourself the trouble of eating anything.

A Car Tire with Cheese – Bring an appetite, plus cheese!

So when you’re choking down cheese-soaked rubber, think of me!

Pixel Tumblr.
