Karma: A Tower of Blinded Men Rising into the Sky by Do Ho Suh
Bernie.rihnthis seems to be recurrent in my mind lately

Towering 23 feet (7 meters) into the sky, Karma is a recent sculpture installed in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art by Korean sculptor Do Ho Suh (previously). Captured here in a series of photographs by Alan Teo, the piece depicts a tower of piggy-backed men, each successively covering the eyes of the man below him, creating an illusion that the blinded tower seems to stretch to infinity like a fractal, although technically it was made from 98 cast stainless steel figures. The artist is known for his work with multiple figures, creating tornadoes, chain link fences, and frequently multiple small figures supporting the weight of what appears to be a pair of corporate or governmental shoes. A smaller broze version of Karma is also on view at the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo. (via my modern met, alan teo)

Can You Guess the Owner? New Macro Photos of Animal Eyes from Suren Manvelyan

Photographer Suren Manvelyan took the web by storm back in 2011 with his Animal Eyes series, where he captured spectacular macro photographs of various critter’s eyes. Manvelyan is back with a new series of extreme close-ups which seem to peer right into the soul of various animals, even though it’s not exactly clear whose soul you’re looking at. I left captions off the photos above, but you can use the list below in order of appearance to check your answers. I got exactly one right.
1. Garden Tree Boa, 2. Gecko eublepharis, 3. Basiliscus lizard, 4. Gecko tokay, 5. Chinchilla, 6. Long-eared owl, 7. Fennec, 8. Raven.
If you watch only one video today about mallardian homosexual necrophilia, let it be this one.
"Believe me, if there is an animal misbehaving on this planet, I know about it."
I know that feel, bro.

“What happens when you can’t find the City Hall’s Bible and you need to promote some firefighters to Battalion Chief and Fire Captain? If you’re the Atlantic City Fire Department of Atlantic City, New Jersey, you grab an iPad and load up your favorite Bible app to complete the swearing in ceremony.”

Bypass full-disk encryption and passwords on any powered-on computer via Firewire.
The tool can unlock (any password accepted) and escalate privileges to Administrator/root on almost* any machine you have physical access to. [...] It is primarily intended to do its magic against computers that utilize full disk encryption such as BitLocker, FileVault, TrueCrypt or Pointsec. [...]Inception's main mode works as follows: By presenting a Serial Bus Protocol 2 (SBP-2) unit directory to the victim machine over the IEEE1394 FireWire interface, the victim operating system thinks that a SBP-2 device has connected to the FireWire port. Since SBP-2 devices utilize Direct Memory Access (DMA) for fast, large bulk data transfers (e.g., FireWire hard drives and digital camcorders), the victim lowers its shields and enables DMA for the device. The tool now has full read/write access to the lower 4GB of RAM on the victim. Once DMA is granted, the tool proceeds to search through available memory pages for signatures at certain offsets in the operating system's password authentication modules. Once found, the tool short circuits the code that is triggered if an incorrect password is entered. [...]
The problem is old, but it is not entirely fixable with a driver update, a patch or a new OS version. The problem is in the Firewire specs. All OS vendors that want to include Firewire drivers that are OHCI compliant and works out of the box with SBP-2 devices are vulnerable in some degree. [...]
You can use any interface that expands the PCIe bus, for example PCMCIA, ExpressCards, the new Thunderbolt interface and perhaps SD/IO to hotplug a FireWire interface into the victim machine. The OS will install the necessary drivers on the fly, even when the machine is locked.
So that's, you know, bad.
