17 Women Who Are Too Tall To Fit On The Cover Of Cosmo
Philip.paulssonHahah
#TallGirlProblems
This recent cover with Hilary Duff might have had you thinking, was this shot on the 7 ½ floor from the film Being John Malkovich? Why she bending over like this?

But the truth is, the cover of Cosmo has historically been too small for any normal-sized human being to be featured on it.

That's why Cindy Crawford had to lie down on the floor in 1991.

This model lit'rally had to tilt her head to the right so she wouldn't get cropped off the cover.

The Inventor Of The Keurig Says He Feels Guilty For Creating It
Philip.paulssonLOL. We have these in our new office. Also the nespresso expresso machines.
John Sylvan said he doesn’t even own one of his very creations because they are “kind of expensive to use.”

The inventor of the Keurig now says he feels guilty for creating the coffee-making device because it creates a ton of waste.
In an interview with the Atlantic published Monday, John Sylvan said that he feels he created a monster.
"I feel bad sometimes that I ever did it," Sylvan said.
Sylvan created the Keurig in 1992 with his college roommate Peter Dragone. He said he believed they would only be used in offices.
He told the Atlantic he was pretty sure the device, which allows the user to brew a single cup of coffee in seconds by inserting a pod into a machine, would be a hit.
"It's like a cigarette for coffee, a single-serve delivery mechanism for an addictive substance," he said.
Sylvan sold his share of the company in 1997 for $50,000. However, he told the Atlantic he now regrets being a part of it at all, because the pods are bad for the environment.
"No matter what they say about recycling, those things will never be recyclable," he said.
According to the Atlantic, the number of pods that were buried in 2014 could circle the Earth an estimated 12 times.
The company has received backlash online in viral videos and petitions for creating a huge amount of waste.
Keurig says it has committed to making its pods 100% recyclable by 2020. Every year, it plans to transition more and more of its pods to a version that uses recyclable plastic.
In addition, the company has a program that collects its pods from users for recycling and is investing in promoting municipal recycling infrastructure.
"The recyclability of Keurig Green Mountain K-Cup packs is a challenge we take very seriously," Keurig said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.
Keurig said that Sylvan has not been a part of the company since its "infancy," and the company is different today.
However, Sylvan said he had an idea for how to make the pods more environmentally friendly, but it fell on deaf ears.
"I told them how to improve it, but they don't want to listen," he told the Atlantic. "There's a much better way of doing it."
In another show of disapproval, Sylvan said that he doesn't even have one of his own creations.
"They're kind of expensive to use," he told the Atlantic. "Plus it's not like drip coffee is tough to make."

Oklahoma’s Death Penalty Plan Would Be Too Cruel For Dogs
Philip.paulssonThere shouldn't be a death penalty in the first place. That being said, isn't is possible it's not humane (LOL) for animals because they can notice the difference and hence panic, whereas with humans they just pass out/go to sleep and die?
Animal welfare guidelines are clear: Suffocating dogs or cats with nitrogen is not an acceptable method for euthanasia. But Oklahoma may soon use it for executions.

Christopher Furlong / Getty Images
Oklahoma is poised to allow a method of execution that has never been tried before: suffocation with nitrogen gas.
On Tuesday, the Oklahoma House of Representatives voted 85-10 to support a bill from Republican Rep. Mike Christian, a former state trooper and enthusiastic supporter of the death penalty. The bill now moves to the state Senate, where it is also expected to command majority support.
The air we breathe is about 80% inert nitrogen and 20% oxygen. Noting that pilots quickly slip into unconsciousness if their oxygen supply fails at high altitude, Christian argued that the method would be painless and humane. "I believe it's revolutionary," the Associated Press reported him saying. "I think it's the best thing we've come up with since the start of executions by the government."
But studies of animal euthanasia paint a mixed picture. In a 2008 report on methods for dispatching dogs and cats, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, based in London, ruled that nitrogen asphyxia should not be used. "Current evidence indicates this method is unacceptable because animals may experience distressing side effects prior to loss of consciousness." Dogs may hyperventilate before losing consciousness, while mice and rats show signs of panic.
In its 2013 guidelines on euthanasia, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) reached the same conclusion. Pigs and birds do not seem to get distressed when breathing nitrogen, however, and the AVMA guidelines state that nitrogen asphyxia can be an acceptable method for these species. Indeed, filling poultry houses with a rapidly-expanding foam filled with nitrogen may be the best option if birds have to culled quickly to control a serious outbreak of disease.
Although there have been no studies in primates, the AVMA recommends lethal injection with an overdose of anaesthetic if monkeys or apes need to be humanely put down. And extrapolating from studies on lower animals to people involves a further leap into the unknown. "The AVMA Euthanasia Guidelines cannot be used to support or oppose various lethal methods for people," spokeswoman Sharon Granskog told BuzzFeed News by email.
Christian isn't the first politician to propose that nitrogen asphyxia would be more humane than current execution methods. In a 2008 BBC documentary, the former U.K. Conservative Cabinet Minister Michael Portillo backed the idea, after considering the alternatives already in use.
At that time, Portillo's proposal attracted little interest in the U.S. But since then, states enforcing the death penalty have been forced to consider alternatives to the drugs traditionally used for lethal injection – typically the anesthetic sodium thiopental, plus a muscle relaxant to inhibit breathing and potassium chloride to stop the heart – after manufacturers stopped supplying them for executions.
Christian's effort to allow nitrogen gas to be used as a secondary method of execution in Oklahoma follows the intervention of the U.S. Supreme Court, which in January ordered three executions to be postponed, while the condemned men mounted a legal challenge to the use of a controversial sedative called midazolam. This was one of the drugs used in the botched execution of Oklahoma death row inmate Clayton Lockett, who died of a heart attack in April 2014 after the procedure was halted.
Deborah Denno, a law professor at Fordham University in New York, who has studied lethal injection protocols, argues that such incidents show the dangers of experimenting with novel execution methods. "For over a century and particularly in recent years," she told BuzzFeed News by email, "executions have demonstrated an extraordinary degree of confusion and disorganization."

An Egyptian Groom Surprised His Bride With An ISIS Wedding Dance In A Cage
Philip.paulssonSo romantic!
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Every girl dreams of a white wedding that is crashed by violent Islamist militants, and Shymaa Daif's new husband, Ahmed Shehata, wanted to make sure his bride's big day was unforgettable.

Ahmed Kassem / Via Facebook: 281183422084400
"The idea came to me two weeks before the wedding, because I wanted a wedding night that is different and special and not like everybody else's," he told Egypt's Youm7 news network.
Oh, Ahmed. You sure know what the ladies love.
In the wedding video, masked men in tuxedos clutch knives and divide the dance floor.

Meanwhile, the same music ISIS uses in its gruesome execution videos blasts from the venue's speakers.

One year later, Sony’s new Morpheus prototype is still VR done right
Philip.paulssonCould be cool, esp mixing it with the PS move controllers...
SAN FRANCISCO—Reloading a gun in home video games is crap.
Shooting is crap, too, in a way. Moving your mouse or tilting your joystick and hitting a button doesn't really simulate the feeling of aiming and firing a gun that well, but at least there's some directionality and physicality to it (especially if you're squeezing a shoulder trigger on a handheld controller). Reloading, on the other hand, is total crap as an analog for the real-world action it simulates. All you do is tap a button, then watch a canned animation of your avatar making a complex series of motions to refill an ammo clip precisely with an unseen trove of bullets that are just sitting in an unseen backpack or something.
I didn't really realize how unsatisfying and artificial this process really was until I played with the latest prototype of Sony's Morpheus virtual reality headset at GDC today. There, in a demo called London Heist, I ducked and dodged behind a solid wooden desk as assailants fired on me from all directions, popping out to aim carefully placed shots by moving and tilting the PlayStation Move controller in my hands.

Canadians Are "Spocking" Their $5 Bills In Tribute To Leonard Nimoy
Philip.paulssonHahah nice.
Even William Shatner is touched.
Last week, news that Leonard Nimoy — the actor who gave us Vulcan Mr. Spock — had passed was met with sadness and memorial.

In Canada, a long-running joke is now being used to pay special tribute. Canadians are "Spocking" their $5 bills in solidarity.

Wilfrid Laurier, the seventh Prime Minister of Canada, who's on the $5 bill, hilariously resembles the Star Trek character. So, for years, Canadians have made it tradition to doodle it on their currency.
Even though "Spocking" is not a new concept, it's become a movement to pay mutual respect to their hero nerd.

This Incredible Photo Of A Baby Weasel Riding A Woodpecker Is Straight Out Of A Children's Fantasy Book
Philip.paulssonCrazy!
Unfortunately, the weasel was attacking the bird. Fortunately, the bird escaped.
East London resident Martin Le-May captured this incredible photo of a baby weasel on the back of a green woodpecker in Esssex, England, on Monday.

Martin Le-May
It's a photo of a weasel trying to kill a woodpecker.
Le-May, a hobby photographer, was taking a walk with his wife through the Hornchurch Country Park in east London in the hopes of her seeing a green woodpecker for the first time.
In an email to BuzzFeed News he described what we're calling "The Thrilling Tale of The Woodpecker and The Weasel":
"As we walked we heard a distressed squawking and I saw that flash of green. So hurriedly I pointed out to Ann the bird and it settled into the grass behind a couple of small silver birch trees. Both of us trained our binoculars and it occurred that the woodpecker was unnaturally hopping about like it was treading on a hot surface.
Lots of wing flapping showing that gloriously yellow/white colour interspersed with the flash of red head feathers. Just after I switched from my binoculars to my camera the bird flew across us and slightly in our direction; suddenly it was obvious it had a small mammal on its back and this was a struggle for life.
The woodpecker landed in front of us and I feared the worst. I guess though our presence, maybe 25 meters away, momentarily distracted the weasel. The woodpecker seized the opportunity and flew up and away into some bushes away to our left. Quickly the bird gathered its self respect and flew up into the trees and away from our sight.
The woodpecker left with its life. The weasel just disappeared into the long grass, hungry."

Moon-Venus-Mars Skyline
Philip.paulssonNice.
Moon-Venus-Mars Skyline
Taken on February 20,
five different exposures made in rapid succession
were used to created this tantalizing telephoto image.
In combination, they reveal a wide
range
of brightness visible to the eye on that frigid evening, from the
urban glow of the Quebec City skyline to the
triple conjunction of Moon, Venus and Mars.
Shortly after sunset the young Moon shows off its bright crescent
next to brilliant Venus.
Fainter Mars is near the top of the frame.
Though details in the Moon's sunlit crescent are washed out,
features on the dark, shadowed part of the lunar disk are remarkably clear.
Still lacking city lights
the lunar night is illuminated solely
by
earthshine, light reflected from the sunlit side
of planet Earth.

People Could Soon Be Ice Skating To Work In This Canadian City
Philip.paulssonThat would be AWESOME
The proposed Freezeway trail would be nearly seven miles long. If this isn’t the most Canadian thing ever I don’t know what is.
Getting around is a pain in the cold, but one Canadian city might lift winter blues by building an ice skating path nearly seven miles long.

Here's a rendering of the proposed trail, dubbed the Freezeway.
Can't skate? No sweat. The trail would be accompanied by a pedestrian walkway.
Matt Gibbs / Via youtube.com
BBC News reports Edmonton, Alberta, discussed the Freezeway at a recent conference about how cities can liven up their winters.

Matt Gibbs / Via youtube.com
Part of her team's job is looking for ways to embrace winter.
His idea stood out to Winter City among hundreds of ideas proposed in 2013, and has been floating around as a possibility ever since.
Gibbs has even uploaded a detailed Freezeway proposal to YouTube.

The project was originally Gibbs' master thesis, but the idea itself has been around even longer, BBC reports.
"Why don't we just crack the fire hydrants open, flood the streets and let people skate to work in the winter?" former city council member Tooker Gomberg joked in the 1990s.

There Is So Much Snow In Canada That This Man Dug A Giant Tunnel To His Car
Philip.paulssonThis makes me worry for people... folks in boston dug out a tunnel for a bike path, too. It's not going to be fun when they collapse on people later.
