It may be Halloween, but we saw a sure sign of Christmas today! The Contemporary Resort’s Gingerbread Castle in Disney World is going up!
We can see the Castle, is in its “new” home for the second year in a row by the windows on the fourth floor. There it is — peeking out from between the Contemporary shops on the Grand Canyon Concourse!
We can smell the gingerbread in the air! Here come the holidays! The castle is a clear nod to Mary Blair, Disney imagineer and artist responsible for the design of “it’s a small world” in the parks as well as the amazing mural opposite the gingerbread castle in the Contemporary itself. Can you see the “iasw” elements to this?
It will grow into, we’re assuming, a place for gingerbread figures of Cinderella and her Prince Charming to greet Contemporary Resort guests through the holiday season like they did last year!
You can also see the little gingerbread stand off to the left, where we’re hoping to find sweet eats and treats very soon!
I LOVE THAT THIS IS ALREADY HAPPENING! Can’t wait to see the other displays take shape in the resorts.

The Disneyland Donut Cart has done it again! They’ve brought back the Dole Whip Donut!
We first told you about this tropical beauty back in April, when we basically fell for it before we even tried it. I mean, it comes with a cocktail umbrella. ![]()
As you can see, this donut is totally Instagram-able! Just find yourself a castle, and click away!
Inside this creation is pineapple filling with bits of fruit in it, so it packs a lot of tropical flavor!
The topping is meringue, toasted slightly. All told, the donut is delicious and simple, just like a Dole Whip!
But remember, Disney cast members are quick to say that this isn’t a Dole Whip Donut but rather a “Pineapple Donut with Meringue.” Yeah, okay, call it what you want: we taste Dole Whip in donut form!
Also good to remember — the donuts at the donut cart in Disneyland are only around for a short time. They’ll change them out again soon, so get your “pineapple donut” while you can!
What Disney treat would you immortalize in a donut? Daydream with us in the comments!

Matt.weilandI too enjoy *checks notes* pizza bread

Rub Smokehouse in Birmingham, England has taken on the difficult task of creating a gigantic pizza that measures four feet wide and contains a whopping 11,000 calories. It takes about 30 minutes to cook.
The pizza consists of 11 slices of pizza bread slathered in cheese, pepperoni and sweet tomato sauce – weighing in at a whopping 1000 calories a slice. The slices, which are also sold separately as a meal challenge at the restaurant, measure up to be 2 foot long each.

Nickelodeon
Earlier this year, Nickelodeon announced that they were reviving the Double Dare game show of late 1980s/early 1990s, slime-filled glory. A snazzed-up new course was recently unveiled by original host Marc Summers, who will also return as commentator for the updated show, and now, a delightful reunion has been announced for Double Dare viewers’ pleasure. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who once starred together on Nickelodon’s Kenan & Kel, are going to appear together on an upcoming special edition episode.
Mitchell, who is alive and well, despite a pesky 2006 death hoax that claimed otherwise, confirmed the news to EW:
“I am so excited to be playing on Double Dare and for whole new generation of kids to experience this iconic game show. This episode will be double special because Kenan and I will be playing against each other and we are both huge fans of Double Dare! I can’t wait to see the super talented Liza Koshy rock it as the new host!”
The episode with Thompson and Mitchell won’t air until later this summer, but the revival premieres on Monday night with actress and YouTube star Liza Koshy stepping into hosting duties. Summers will appear on air, and he recently told TVLine that the show has been completely updated with new challenges and more. “If you are tuning in to see what Double Dare was, it’s not that,” he teased. “It’s something different. It’s something for 2018.”

Matt.weilandHire a vagrant to take your kids to the park, grab your lady, crank up the AC and BONE
Heat-related issues are the number-one cause of visits to the first aid facilities at Disney theme parks. But no one wants to spend their beloved vacation time feeling miserable in a first aid station. With daytime temperatures sometimes approaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in the summer, coupled with the drippy humidity in Orlando, visitors need to prepare themselves to deal with the heat.
The first step happens before you leave home. Establish a habit of drinking water regularly to fully hydrate your body before your trip starts. Look, Disney has free, clean, public bathrooms everywhere in its parks. If you're not needing to use them on a regular basis, you are not drinking enough. A well-hydrated body provides your first and best defense against heat exhaustion... and worse conditions.
Notice that I recommended drinking water, too. If you want to enjoy something else to drink on your trip, by all means do. But don't count on that to help keep you hydrated. Water should be your go-to beverage of choice throughout hot summer days in the park.
Next, dress for the heat. No, that does not mean packing the skimpiest outfits you own. In fact, you ought to try to cover up as best you can. The trick is to cover up from the sun with light fabrics in both color and weight that allow you to shed heat and moisture easily. SPF-protecting fabrics can be wonderful for visitors with especially sensitive skin, as well.
Wear comfortable shoes, too. And with socks if you are one of those people who suffer from "Disney rash" on your ankles and lower legs after a day walking on the parks' hot pavement.
Double up your protection by using sunscreen, as well. Go with your personal favorite here, but remember that you'll be sweating all day, so if you've got something that stands up well to that, go with that option. Bring the sunscreen with you to reapply when needed.
Of course, the best protection from the broiling sun is to stay inside. On really hot days, just plan to do nothing but indoor attractions between lunch and dinner, when temperatures peak and the sun exposure is at its worst. That's also the time when lines are longest, so leaving that part of the day for indoor, air-conditioned theater shows that rarely have much of a wait can save you time as well as the discomfort of being outside. (My favorite, go-to midday choices are the Animation Academy and the Frozen musical at Disney California Adventure, the Enchanted Tiki Room and Main Street Cinema at Disneyland, the American Adventure and Impressions de France at Epcot, and the Lion King and Finding Nemo musicals at Disney's Animal Kingdom.)
You also can help keep yourself cool by slowing down as you walk through the parks. People go on vacation to relax, but the expense of a Disney vacation can leave people feeling like they have to run everywhere to cram in as many rides and shows as they can for what they paid to be in the parks. But running around to do more won't help you if it leaves you in the first aid station with a case of heat exhaustion, robbing you of the rest of your day. Resists the temptation to rush and instead go slow to do more on hot days in the parks.
Leisurely meals can help recharge your energy on a hot day, too. If you can book a reservation in a sit-down, indoor restaurant for lunch rather than hitting up carts or outdoor quick-service windows, that gives you more time out of the sun, as well. Whatever you do, make sure to down at least a couple glasses of water at each meal. Try to order less food than usual, too. Stuffing yourself can make you feel even worse in the heat. Smaller, lighter meals will keep you fueled up without overheating.
Water rides can provide temporary relief, but sometimes they can leave you feeling sticky and miserable after the ride water evaporates. Another choice for relief can be to soak a clean hand towel with cold water from a drinking fountain and to wear it around the back of your neck. That will last longer than a flume ride soaking, anyway.
If you do start to feel any of the effects of the sun and heat on your visit, do not wait to seek relief. Get out of the sun right away, even if just by ducking into a store. Drink some more water, then look for a place where you can sit down, out of the sun and the heat, until you have recovered. If that means heading back to your hotel, do it. Missing a few extra rides is a small price compared with suffering a heat-related illness that could disrupt your vacation for days.
Disney designs its theme parks to provide comfort. But it's up to you to take advantage of that. Prepare yourself by getting and staying hydrated and dressing appropriately when you come to the parks. Then pace yourself throughout the day, taking every opportunity to get out of the sun and to rest to recharge. It's fun to play in the sun, but don't let the heat ruin your Disney summer vacation.

Matt.weilandBig news for my California AP peeps
Disneyland is offering annual passholders something as rare as June thunderstorm in Anaheim summer ticket discounts. Starting June 11, passholders can buy one-day Park Hopper tickets to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure for up to 41 percent off the regular price.
That makes the tickets $89, $99, or $109, depending upon whether you visit on a Value, Regular, or Peak attendance day. The normal prices for one-day Park Hoppers at the Disneyland Resort are $147, $167, and $185.
You only can buy the tickets on days that your annual pass is valid, and you must accompany the ticketholder into the park, so you can't use these as discounted blockout day tickets. And there's a limit to two tickets per day per passholder and tickets must be used on the day of purchase, so opportunities for APers to become discount ticket brokers will be limited. (You know some will try, though.)
As for those blockout dates, Disneyland is lifting a bunch of them, too. SoCal Select passholders are getting an extra week and a half before their summer blockout kicks in, with admission now valid on Monday through Friday next week and Monday through Wednesday the following week. SoCal APers get next Thursday and Friday added, along with Tuesday through Thursday the week after that. Deluxe passholders get next Friday added, too.
All of the extra dates come before the official opening of Pixar Pier on June 23. But since Disneyland crowd levels are pretty much dictated by the AP blockout calendar, expect much heavier than expected crowds next week and the week after as APers cram a few more visits in before the start of the summer season.
