jj announces new EP, Death, premieres song “Fuck It” — listen

by Michelle Geslani

Last summer, Swedish outfit jj issued its third studio album, V. Now, almost a year later, the experimental pop group is set to return with a new five-track EP entitled Death.

jj announced the news on Facebook yesterday afternoon, along with a glimpse at the forthcoming release in “Fuck It”. While the single isn’t quite as extreme as its title would have you believe, there is definitely a certain beautiful madness in the way its synths seem to crash and fold onto one another. Listen in below.

Death officially arrives on August 12th via Gothenburg label Sincerely Yours. For more, check out “Truce”, which was revealed back in June.

We may not have personal jetpacks or flying cars yet, but if you’ve got a smartphone, an old CD case, and a few craft supplies you can have awesome holograms whenever you like. YouTube contributor Mrwhosetheboss used an idea from American Hacker to create a simple tutorial for how to turn your phone into a 3D hologram projector:

Stream: Dr. Dre’s long-awaited new solo album Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre

by Alex Young

Here’s something you can’t say everyday: Dr. Dre has released a new studio album. Compton A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, the legendary rapper-producer’s first LP in 16 years, will be released exclusively through Apple Music on Friday, August 7th. In anticipation, the 16-track effort is streaming in full here. Update: The album is now available to purchase.

Compton serves as the companion soundtrack to the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. The album features contributions from Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and others.

Dr. Dre had originally planned to release Detox as his third solo LP, but scrapped the multi-year project. “I didn’t like it. It wasn’t good,” Dre explained. “The record, it just wasn’t good … I worked my ass off on it, and I don’t think I did a good enough job.”

“During principal photography, I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album,” Dre said of Compton. “I kept it under wraps, and now the album is finished. It’s bananas…. I’m really proud of this.”

All proceeds from Compton will go to fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility in the city of Compton.

This week in insect villainy: this parasitic wasp sucks the blood of a spider, hacks into its nervous system, and forces its zombie body to build a strong web that it can use as a cocoon.

Italian Artist Sasha Vinci’s Haunting and Carnal Multimedia Works

by Caro
Sicily, Italy based artist Sasha Vinci creates haunting sculptures and installations that contemplate the nature of man's existence. While his works can be morbid and a bit terrifying, as in his series of fleshy seated subjects waiting for eternity, Vinci also finds beauty and sexuality in the human figure. Known for his captivating and carnal sculptures, Vinci is a true multimedia artist, also exploring drawing, painting, writing, sound design and performance art.

Goodbye and Good Riddance, House of Blues Sunset Strip

When the House of Blues Sunset Strip opened in 1994, it seemed like a promising new addition to an off-kilter scene that was still fractured between grunge groaners and big hair-metal howlers. The venue did, on occasion, memorably serve its cultural function: the stunning 2003 performance by Strip icon Arthur...
