Aryeh Cohen-Wade had a scathing indictment of the GOP’s complicity in creating Trump and the current clown car of fail in their primary.

The whole thing is brilliant, but this: “They all know they can make a lot of $$$ by fooling frightened elderly white people–the raison d'être of Fox News.“

This is the crux of it. The GOP treats its base like marks in a long con, and Trump is the ultimate conman. He’s beaten them at their own game. He is the match that lit the trash pile they’ve been pouring gasoline on for 40 years.

“Sickness” as we speak of it today is a capitalist construct, as is its perceived binary opposite, “wellness.” The “well” person is the person well enough to go to work. The “sick” person is the one who can’t. What is so destructive about conceiving of wellness as the default, as the standard mode of existence, is that it invents illness as temporary. When being sick is an abhorrence to the norm, it allows us to conceive of care and support in the same way.

Care, in this configuration, is only required sometimes. When sickness is temporary, care is not normal.

Here’s an exercise: go to the mirror, look yourself in the face, and say out loud: “To take care of you is not normal. I can only do it temporarily.”

Saying this to yourself will merely be an echo of what the world repeats all the time.

TheWrap reports that pop star Janelle Monae has landed the third lead alongside Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer in Ted Melfi’s Hidden Figures.

The movie follows the story of a group of black women who provided NASA with important mathematical data needed to launch the program’s first successful space missions.

Henson will play Katherine Johnson, Spencer will play Dorothy Vaughan and Monae will play the youngest member of the trio, Mary Jackson. Kevin Costner has been recently cast as the head of the space program.

I love the phrase “what the entire fuck” because it implies that there exists some scenario that warrants only a “what the partial fuck”.

Similarly “what the actual fuck,” implying “what the figurative fuck” or “what the imaginary fuck”.

“What the actual fuck” is an interesting one because “actual” has so many distinct shades of meaning.

“Entire” generally means “whole” or “complete”, but depending on the particular context, “actual” can denote any or all of “real”, “literal”, “concrete”, “truthful”, “grounded” or “factual”.

Thus, when deriving the contrastive phrase, in addition to “what the imaginary fuck” and “what the figurative fuck”, we could also reasonably arrive at “what the hypothetical fuck”, “what the fraudulent fuck”, “what the fanciful fuck” or “what the counterfactual fuck”.

Language is fun!

i’m personally a fan of “what the actual and entire fuck” because never do what you can overdo.

We actually used to use ‘what in the hypothetical fuck’ in law school.  Also ‘what the alleged fuck’.

In an effort to understand what his friend with dyslexia sees, programmer Victor Widell attempted to recreate her visual effects in a fascinating interactive blog post that used JavaScript to make the letters of each word constantly rearrange themselves.

A friend who has dyslexia described to me how she experiences reading. She can read, but it takes a lot of concentration, and the letters seems to “jump around”. I remembered reading about typoglycemia. Wouldn’t it be possible to do it interactively on a website with Javascript? Sure it would.

Would call most of those sun halos, sun dogs, and a circumzenithal arc, but my word what a collection of optical phenomena this traveler caught. 

Sometimes the sun gets a pair of sundogs or even a full halo here in the winter when there’s a lot of ice in the atmosphere, but I’ve never seen a halo this intense.

Where in god’s name are you? The edge of the earth? Is this what we see when we die?
