Ch-check it out: Buddhist monks breakdance in honor of Adam “MCA” Yauch
Pedro Paulosmeio internet com dois dias, mas é fixe
A touching tribute for MCA Day.
On Friday, four men dressed like Tibetan Buddhist monks descended on New York City’s Union Square, breakdancing to the Beastie Boys’ ‘Ch-check It Out’. The dancers were there in support of MCA Day, “an event born from a global community built on GRATITUDE to celebrate the life of Adam Yauch.”
The rapper, director and activist best known as Beastie Boy MCA died in 2012 at the age of 47 after a battle with cancer. A practicing Buddhist since 1994, Yauch was also dedicated to the support of Tibetan independence, launching the Milarepa Fund in 1994.
No word if the dancers were actual monks (a commenter on the video suggests that they might be members of the Floor Obsession crew), but it’s a touching tribute none the less. Watch it below. [via HuffPo]
Black Pepper Cauliflower Salad
Pedro Paulosisto é uma dica
Fridays have unofficially become guest lunch days around here. It wasn't something planned, Fridays just seem to be the day people swing by with deliveries for the shop, or the day everyone has a bit of extra time. Adele came by last, and Dave from Jacob May before that. I like it. We'll often break out a bit of wine, pull a few things together (along with whatever leftovers from the week are in the refrigerator), chat, throw ideas around, and generally enjoy each other's company. Today's black pepper cauliflower is one of the things that has landed on the table in various guises over the past couple of months. The florets are doused in a warm black pepper and red onion vinaigrette, and tossed with nuts, apples, olives, and a bit of feta. The version with broccoli was also popular (simply swap out the cauliflower for broccoli)...
As far as how one of the spreads comes together, we'll often have a big pot of soup, a couple of salads (like this), and someone typically throws a few eggs in a skillet to poach and top the soup.
We typically have them friday lunches here at the house, but(!) that might change soon. After a long search, we finally found a new home for QUITOKEETO. It's a little rough around the edges, and is going to take some time to clean up - but new floors are en route, paint swatches are being debated, bars are hopefully coming off the windows, and the fluorescent lights will politely be escorted out. I promise more details as this unfolds in the coming weeks. The light in the space is beautiful and soft, the ceilings high. It was a painter's studio for many years, and after spending some time in it, I understand why. More soon. xo -h

Scary Spice Just Doesn’t Give a Shit
Pedro Pauloseste gajo escreve de punhos cerrados
I guess we all get to that age when it’s just fuck it, I’m going to stick my hand up my ass in public. You would never peg a musical talent like Scary Spice to go thong hunting right there in Beverly Hills, but, dammit, she once lip-synched Wannabe to 100,000 adoring fans. If her panties are bunching up in her crust, she shouldn’t suffer for one extra minute. Who knows where the nearest loo is. Unless you’re the man she makes smell her thong in the evenings, this is none of your concern.

The Guy From Sum 41 Is Doing Great
Things must be a little tough for Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley these days, what with his ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, being engaged to Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger so they can eventually give birth to the music industry’s antichrist. So it was nice to see Deryck get back on that horse and head out to the Tom Petty show at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood last night with a tall, leggy woman who clearly isn’t with him for his dashing good looks.
Danny Masterson was also there, possibly handing out Scientology pamphlets or because the back lot at TBS was being fumigated, so he couldn’t crash in the security trailer last night. Either way, I’m sure the gold diggers in attendance enjoyed the night off.

Hear what the surface of the earth sounds like with this unique vinyl record
It turns out the earth really is flat, after all.
As methods of presenting data go, there are few that are as interesting as this. Art collective Art of Failure came up with the project “Flat Earth Society” in 2011 as a way of mapping the topography of the earth onto the grooves of a vinyl disc, and if that isn’t a great way of displaying what would usually be a bunch of number, we don’t know what is.
The data was funneled into notorious computer music programming language Pure Data (or PD), which interpreted the earth’s natural grooves (mountains, hills and valleys) into wave forms. The wave forms were then cut to laquer discs, which made two sides of audio – one for the Northern Hemisphere and one for the Southern Hemisphere, and “Flat Earth Society” was done.
Weirdly, looking at the record you can actually see the flattened world map pretty easily, but hearing it certainly makes the concept far harder to decipher. It’s probably obvious but the actual sound itself is something like a Mille Plateaux record from the late 90s or early 00s, sounding like slowly shifting glitchy rhythms and maybe not giving much away about the source material itself.
The collective filmed themselves playing the two records simultaneously, which we assume is a way of hearing the earth all at once, and to be honest, we actually quite like it. [via The Wire / The Vinyl Factory]

Action Bronson shares bizarre ‘Strictly 4 My Jeeps’ video, readies album with Harry Fraud
Pedro Pauloswtf
Collaborative effort Saab Stories is due out in early June.
Directed Jason Goldwatch, the video for ‘Strictly 4 My Jeeps’ finds the Queens Ghostface aficionado lifting weights, doing cartwheels, hanging out with rap-absurdist RiFF RaFF, and undertaking some impressive culinary challenges (all in the company of some BBW models).
The song, which first premiered back in February, is the first single from Saab Stories, which will be produced by FACT producer to watch Harry Fraud. As Bronson tweets, the album will be out in Early June “10000000% no matter what.”
Harry Fraud recently released his High Tide EP and his Adrift mixtape, both of which featured Action Bronson, and the pair collaborated on 2012 stand-out ‘Bird On A Wire’.
