Cicatrizes da Guerra: paisagens da Europa que não se recuperaram da Primeira Guerra Mundial

by Daniel Junqueira

BRAIN SCIENCE BEHIND ANOREXIA

With today’s fashion magazine constantly portray a thinner body as more beautiful, its no wonder many teenage girls fall victim to anorexia. What most people probably don’t know is that anorexia is so strong it can alter normal brain function. The brain scan of an anorexic person versus a healthy person is drastically different.

  •  A painful pang of hunger can be downgraded in an anorexic person so that it is barely felt.
  • When anorexic patients were asked to imagine eating French fries, there was high activity in the center of self-control in the brain. This region serves to shut down impulsive behaviors. It would make a tasty dish of salty French fries seem unappetizing.
  • Dopamine, a hormone that gives a person their “natural high” and makes them feel happy, elicits anxiety in an anorexic person. So a chocolate bar that would normally elicit joy in a healthy person, elicits distress in an anorexic person.

These reasons explain why anorexic people are turned off by food. They just don’t see it the same way normal people do.

Winter - The Rolling Stones

by Abbey Egeland

Coat C/O Persunmall | Top from Sirens | Jeans from Suzy Shier | Purse from Thrift Shop | Steve Madden Heels

From time to time, winter can feel like a real drag on your personal style. It's not necessarily snowy, seeing as I reside in Victoria, but it's still cold, rainy, foggy, and occasionally quite windy. I've been making a concerted effort this winter to not let the dreary weather get to me and have been having a surprising amount of success thus far! I have a few neglected coats from years past which I've brought out and have been trying some different hat/scarf combinations and whatnot. I also recently got this lovely coat from Persunmall, it's quite different to what I'd typically go for -- patterned and leather sleeved -- but every now and then I feel the need to try something a bit different. I styled it with otherwise simple pieces, so as to let it take centre stage, and created a very slightly '90s inspired look!

I tried to be like Grace Kelly...

by Abbey Egeland

Quero de presente.

This was requested by a subscriber on Youtube a little bit ago. This is the first tutorial I’ve done since moving house and I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things. I’ve got another in mind that I’m hoping to film soon, but until then here is my little Grace Kelly tutorial!

Title of this post is from, of course, Mika's 2006 song, Grace Kelly. I was utterly obsessed with this song back then.
