Kittens, what do we think here? Because there’s an influx of good semi-cazh red carpetry going on at the Upfronts at the same time that the Cannes Film Festival keeps punching us in the face with over-the-top gownery. It’s getting so a couple of bitches such as we can’t trust our opinions anymore.
Because we think we like this:

Listen, the shoes are awful. Let’s get that out of the way before you yell at us. They’re fine on their own (if bland as hell), but this outfit called for something like a brilliant teal sandal, right? Which brings us to our next question: can she handle the yellow? It’s clearly quite the trendy color at the moment, but it’s also a really tough color to pull off. We tend to think it’s not a problem for her, although we think the makeup could use some adjusting. But we kinda love the shape and the simple summer vibe of it. Maybe the pants are a bit much for her to handle, but we love the top. We don’t know… we’re all over the place on this one. We like it more than we probably should, though.

It’s quite clear from these shots that Miss Kiki had a red carpet game plan going into Cannes this year. Said game plan being “I shall CRUSH my enemies under the tricky heel of my shoe.” Apparently.

Okay, before we get to anything else, let us stipulate that those shoes, while interesting in a theoretical sense, are nonetheless total girl-no’s. That is to say, they are the type of shoe that causes one to exclaim “GIRL, NO!” in concern for the well-being of her feet. Of slightly lesser importance: they’re not even all that pretty. We can see how a fashionista might be interested in them at first glance, but one try-on should’ve sealed the “NOPE” deal.
Moving on to the rest of her look… it’s all gangbusters. We wouldn’t think a pale blonde could work a yellow-and-gold ensemble, but she looks fresh and … we don’t know… regal somehow. If only Cathy Cambridge would sport a dress as chic as this now and then. The fit is flawless and the gold belt really makes the look.
But Miss K was not going to rest on her laurels after that sweetly chic opening. She hauled out the big guns for the premiere:

Note that she’s once again sporting a pastel but making it seem fresher than your average blonde-in-a-pastel look. Of course the entire look rests on those beaded flowers, which are spectacular, but the blush pink of the gown looks lovely on her and the shape is elegant and chic. The only quibble we have is with that belt detail, but all of the Gucci trompe l’oeil looks this season have been hit or miss. This is far from the worst of the lot, although we think the dress would be better served with something a little more conventional around the waist.
We’re quibbling, though. She looks chic as hell in both looks.

Boston-area rents are, of course, some of the highest in the United States, and that reality creates curious phenomena. Case in point: Tenants in some of the region's priciest neighborhoods for renting pay smaller shares of their income in rent, while those in less expensive areas pay greater proportions.
In parts of Back Bay, Fenway, South End and downtown Boston — where the average one-bedroom apartment rents for $3,000 or more — residents are, on average, paying between a quarter and a third of their household income on rent.
In neighborhoods like Roxbury, Mattapan, parts of Dorchester and East Boston, and many areas surrounding downtown Boston ... the average renter is paying more than a third, or even more than half of their income on rent.
Lest one assume it's always been so, note this: In 2000, according to WGBH, "there were relatively few areas" where tenants were paying on average more than about one-third of their incomes on rent. A large number were paying under one-quarter, in fact. Check out the comparative maps below. The bluish areas are where tenants are spending a lot of income on rent.

One day after Mayor Walsh vowed to fly a flag in support of transgender rights until the state legislature passes a bill enabling them, workers took it down and replaced it with a Polish flag, in honor of the 225th anniversary of Poland's first constitution. They moved the flag to a pole on the Cambridge Street side of City Hall.
Mayor Walsh today announced a plan to pay tuition at Bunker Hill and Roxbury Community Colleges for all BPS graduates with at least a 2.2 GPA who are eligible for federal Pell grants for low-income students.
The money will come from payments by developers of large commercial developments into a city linkage fund - the Neighborhood Jobs Trust - and will pick up the costs not covered by the Pell grants.
Along with the new reimbursement program, the city and BPS will develop counseling, remedial classes and other programs to help students graduate from the colleges. The program is already available to Madison Park graduates and will roll out at the city's other high schools June 1.
In a statement, Walsh said:
The single most effective way to break down the social and financial barriers facing many Boston families is to make post-secondary education free and accessible.

Developers have filed plans with the BRA for a 49-unit, five-story condo building at 3193 Washington St. at Montebello Road - across the street from a proposed 73-unit residential building.
Developers Fred Starikov, Stephen Whalen and Josh Fetterman are proposing 24 parking spaces - and 58 bicycle spaces - for a $13-million building they say is an eight-minute walk to Green Street and Stony Brook on the Orange Line and an easy walk to pretty much everything else that makes JP JP.
Most of the units would have a single bedroom; three would be studios, 11 would have two bedrooms and three would have three bedrooms.
These units will be very attractive to those seeking the diverse neighborhood within the urban context of Boston.

In a brand new interview with Digital Spy the Dr. Luke collaborator sat down and talked about her admiration for Britney Spears and surmised that the pop icon is the reason why she became a singer. Meghan says:
"She's the reason why I'm a singer. That was the first album I ever had."
She also went on to clarify that contrary to previous reports she was the one that approached Britney's team and eagerly offered up her services:
"I was in LA Reid's office and Britney's people who are working with her now came in." she continues "I was like, 'Should I? Should I write for Britney Spears right now?'I was so crazy busy."
However Meghan excitedly took the initiative and asked! "I was like, 'Hey, if you guys ever want help or need an extra writer, I'm so down.'"
