Two white teens are on a “crime spree” with .45- and .38-caliber handguns, and NBC labels them “teen sweethearts.”

After police shot and killed 22-year-old John Crawford in August for picking up a legal BB gun in a Walmart store in Beavercreek, Ohio, police detective Rodney Curd interrogated Crawford’s girlfriend Tasha Thomas for 90 minutes, suggesting she may have helped him take a gun into the store, even though Crawford had no gun. Detective Curd didn’t tell Thomas that her boyfriend Crawford was dead until the end of the interrogation, the Guardian reported. A grand jury decided in September not to indict the officers who killed Crawford.

It just occurred to me that the Lord of the Rings fans who think Frodo Baggins is a whiny loser and the Neon Genesis Evangelion fans who think Shinji Ikari is a whiny loser are getting bent out of shape for exactly the same reasons.

Zoë Quinn Has Launched A Network to Help Fight GamerGate Harassment & Other Online Abuse
Billed as “by survivors, for survivors,” Zoe Quinn and Alex Lifschitz have launched the Crash Override Network, which is also billed as an “online anti-harassment task force.”
Here’s the rundown from the site itself:
Who we are:
Crash Override is a support network and assistance group for victims and targets of unique forms of online harassment, composed entirely of experienced survivors. Our network includes experts in information security, white hat hacking, PR, law enforcement, legal, threat monitoring, and counseling. Most, if not all, of our agents are former clients. Prior to formal launch, our trial runs had great success in helping victims lock down their information, prevent SWATing attempts, and feel like they were back in control of their online life.
What we do:
Our network works preventatively and reactively, warning targets and working with them during episodes of harassment to keep them safe and provide them with the means to reduce harm and rebuild, as well as disempower their harassers. We understand that every cast of online harassment is unique in terms of its targets, aggressors, and circumstances, and that no one plan of survival is suitable for everyone. We instead work with clients to tailor a unique plans [sic] of action, informed by our own experience and prior success in the field.

This is an amazing and crucial development. Especially now that the GG trolls have escalated their game to increasingly dangerous levels, doxxing and swatting feminists. (Link TW for stalking, threat, harassment, misogyny - it is a depressing read but this is what’s happening in 2015).
Feminists in tech have to do all we can to protect women and anyone targeted by these misogynists.

For Homeless Women, Getting Their Period Is One Of The Most Difficult Challenges
'Homeless women typically know where to find a safe place to sleep or a hot meal to eat. But when it comes to taking care of their feminine hygiene needs, they often have nowhere to turn.
Tampons and sanitary pads usually top the list of needs at shelters, since they’re pricey and supporters don’t often donate them, social workers told Al Jazeera. Compounding the issue is the fact that clean showers are also scarce, and not washing during menstruation can lead to infections.
It’s a desperate situation that many homeless women feel resigned to accept.
"I’ll never be clean," a young woman living on the streets of San Francisco once told Doniece Sandoval, the entrepreneur behind Lava Mae, a mobile shower program, according to Nation Swell.
Maribel Guillet, 36, is all too familiar with that despondent feeling.
Guillet, who lives in a Bronx, New York, homeless shelter, typically menstruates for about 10 days and experiences heavy bleeding, she told Al Jazeera. But because of the shelter’s strict restrictions, she can’t always use the restroom as often as she needs to.
The fact that menstruation is a taboo topic to begin with, means that people who are able help, often aren’t even aware that such a vast need exists.’
Pandamonium: This is something that is certainly forgotten about those who menstruate on the streets. Please donate here to help us directly offer these individuals with some sanitary equipment to make life a little easier for them: [x]
