Seanan McGuire went on a very long, very excellent rant on Twitter this morning, and I felt it deserved to be organized.
There are days when I am proud to call Seanan my friend.
This is one of those days.

You do know the one with the beautifully colored plumage is the male peacock and it only presents itself like that to attract the plain colored female, right?
So basically the only role your fabulousness has is to impress the plain ol’ me. And I may or may not give a fuck.
This is a goddamn delight.

Commodore 64 version of Ultima 4 hits iOS for free

By Griffin McElroy on Sep 06, 2013 at 10:30a
The Commodore 64 version of Origin Systems' Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar has been ported to iOS and released for free by U.K. developer Elite Systems.
Ultima 4 places players in the fantasy realm of Britannia, ruled by Richard Garriott's long-running in-game representative Lord British, and sets them on a quest to master the principles of eight heroic virtues. The classic RPG recently received a mobile spiritual successor in the form of Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar, a modern, free-to-play remake from EA Mythic.
According to the C64 version's description on the iTunes App Store, Elite Systems' port was made free-of-charge "courtesy of Mythic studios." The game's main menu also promotes Ultima Forever on the App Store, implying that the C64 version's release is a cross-promotional effort for EA Mythic's game.

Former Cave head Asada working on Xbox One game at Mages

Details on Asada's Xbox One game are sparse, but Dengeki Online (via Gematsu) does report it'll be packaged, and that more info should be forthcoming shortly.
Mages also announced it's publishing Constant C, a 2D action-puzzle game that was one of the 100 recently Greenlighted on Steam. Mages is bringing Constant C to Xbox 360 as a downloadable game in early 2014, although it's unclear if that'll be limited to Japan or not.

Producer Mentions Captain Marvel While Discussing Possible Female Led Superhero Films
firehose“There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero,” producer/director Louis D’Esposito says. ”… [W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?”
“It’s hard,” he says. ”because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on.”
'So the issue here is, Marvel Entertainment already has their slate set for the next few years and putting another film on the pile is too much strain on them as a whole. I’ve got an idea, D’Esposito, just push back Doctor Strange and replace that release date with Captain Marvel. There. I have solved all your problems. Now get to work.'
This is the weirdest quarterly earnings report ever filed
firehosejuggalo icon Faygo's parent company is appropriately weird

National Beverage, a small-time American soft-drink manufacturer, reported yesterday that its earnings last quarter were not very good, chastening the company. Or as CEO Nick Caporella put it in a press release, “There can be no allowable regrets in business or fumbles on the field (deck) of Endeavor – none . . . (no one even knows how to practice them).”
We don’t understand what that means, either. National Beverage has issued the strangest quarterly earnings report we’ve ever seen. Below you can read the entire press release, filled with rambling Caporella quotes such as, ”Look at our track record over the past 20 years—no mental degradation has occurred!” (The company’s 10-Q filing, which has its financial statements, is normal.)
It’s not the first time Caporella has mouthed off in a company filing, but this may be the weirdest example. National Beverage, which had revenue of $172 million last quarter, is best known for its Faygo and Shasta sodas. Caporella founded the company in 1985. A spokeswoman for the company didn’t return a call seeking comment. Here’s the entire release:
NATIONAL BEVERAGE REPORTS
LESS THAN TYPICAL RESULTS
FIRST QUARTER FY2014FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, September 5, 2013 . . . National Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ:FIZZ) today reported results for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2014.
For the comparable first quarters FY2014 vs. FY2013:
● Revenues decreased 6% to $172 million
● Net income decreased 16% to $12 million
● Earnings per share decreased 16% to $.26“Should we have the most credible reason for these results (and we could have), would it make a difference?” asked Nick A. Caporella, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on a recent management call. “Does it make us feel less contrite relative to the credibility of the justification?” he queried. “There can be no allowable regrets in business or fumbles on the field (deck) of Endeavor – none . . . (no one even knows how to practice them),” quipped Caporella.
“From mega retailers to soft drink giants, the summer of ’13 will symbolically claim its victims! Consequently, the culmination of nervousness of a ‘whiplashed’ consumer to the ‘knee jerk’ reaction of Big Cola . . . all segments of soft drink sales were affected – as retailers and soft drink companies subsequently disclosed. The lowering of prices being Big Cola’s response – further complicated the situation! Cooler weather compounded already weakened consumer spirits,” indicated Caporella.
“The consumer revolted in anger to yo-yo pricing; Big Cola’s pricing tactics didn’t stop the sales and market share declines. Yesteryear’s shopper had higher disposable income and a more comfortable, content state of mind; discount pricing resulted in greater single purchases – NOT this tense summer of ’13!” Caporella continued.
“Maybe everyone learned an invaluable lesson – ‘No instant fix for a distraught consumer!’
Good soft drinks are to the human race what sunshine is to a picnic! Thankfully, after the Fourth of July – normalcy returned to most markets and . . . hopefully attitudes,” Caporella stated.
“As I repeat from our Annual Report, look at our track record over the past twenty years – no mental degradation has occurred! Judge us by all four quarters next July 2014. Certainly, we have come to know – precious rainbows usually require both rain and sunshine! Team National’s results were obtained by diligence and untiring determination. We are Disappointed – Yes; Contrite – Certainly; Resilient – Absolutely . . .” a heartfelt Caporella concluded.

A reporter noted that Miyazaki's official retirement statement stated that he was retiring from making feature films. "As long as I can drive," Miyazaki replied, "I will be going to the studio every day. But if there's thing I want to do, then I will."
