"I don’t quite understand why Dungeons and Dragons is relegated to the absolute, total nerd..."

“I don’t quite understand why Dungeons and Dragons is relegated to the absolute, total nerd sub-humans, while video games have become almost totally socially acceptable, when only one of those two past times requires having at least three or four friends.”

Because it is a hard option. Because it requires imagination, creativity, and, above all, listening. Because we feel as a society that anything which is not watching a TV show or a sports game requires us to justify the way in which we spend our time. Because we fear that justification, we fear it and the backlash so much that we do not take the time to suggest that the soft option should require justification as well.

Honestly ask people why they spend time watching sports, watching reality shows, explaining the way in which they spend their time. Match it up to the reasons you have for the way you spend your time. Watching a man run a goddamn spheroid around a grassy field is no more ludicrous than telling a story and rolling a die. We spend our time with what we like, with what we love, and if we judge one another for how that time is spent, if we weigh one against another actively instead of reveling in those joys, then we have only ourselves to blame for hanging our heads low.

I’m so goddamn tired of hobbyists not having the confidence to quit the shameful shoe-shuffling that accompanies every declaration of their preferences. If you act like you are doing something shameful, then you will be shamed for it, because people will take their cue from the information you provide.

I don’t know what point I’m trying to make, other than shut the fuck up and hand me my goddamn d20, I’ve got a roll to make against the bullshit of this overly prevalent attitude.

Mario and Luigi are out and proud on Ellen DeGeneres' show

by Owen S. Good

Nintendo's exclusion of same-sex marriage options in the 3DS lifestyle sim Tomodachi Life, and its resulting apology for how that was handled, made the company's top pitchmen ripe targets for Ellen DeGeneres' talk show this week.

In appearance that is definitely not canonical, Mario and Luigi declare they actually aren't brothers - and that for 30 years everyone has misunderstood their real relationship "because of our-a crazy accent," says Luigi.

Wonder what John Leguizamo might have to say about this.

Earlier this week, late night comedian John Oliver also took on the subject of marriage equality among Nintendo characters, imagining couples like Bowser and Donkey Kong, and Toad and Yoshi.

Sengoku Turb, Dreamcast.

(NEC - 1999) (Japan-only)

from The Gaming Intelligence Agency: “Easily one of the weirdest RPGs ever, Sengoku Turb features a storyline sure to leave many gamers scratching their heads. You play as a Jino-Chan, a space traveller named marooned on Turb (hence the game’s name). Turb is inhabited by warring factions of super-deformed stick figure soldiers, and it’s up to Jino-Chan to make peace between the combatants so she can return home.”

Ron Harper wants you to know that The Onion has the story wrong

by Rodger Sherman

Ron Harper might be one of the people who comments on Dan on Fire videos.

Surely you have heard of The Onion, the most wonderful satirical newspaper in the history of satirical newspapers. They also have a wonderful sports section.

Recently, they picked on five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, joking that the guy who won titles with Michael Jordan and Shaq was telling everybody that he had been on the Dream Team.

"Man, we'll never again have a group of superstars like we did in '92; I'm just proud to have been a part of it," the journeyman shooting guard reportedly told his checkout clerk at a local Stop & Shop earlier this week, adding his oft-repeated claim that "being selected as a starter for that squad was the biggest honor of [his] life." "That team was something else: Magic, Jordan, Bird, Barkley, and me, manning the perimeter. We were unstoppable. Granted, what we accomplished in '96 was pretty great too, but nothing can ever come close to that summer in Barcelona."

Ron Harper saw this, and wants you to know that the sources quoted in the article were lying:

Whoever told them that story on @OnionSports didn't tell the truth!!!! & I don't do stop & shop stores....THANKS

— Ron Harper (@HARPER04_5) May 23, 2014

Of course, there's the possibility Harper is having a go with us -- he gets that it's satire and he's pretending to not understand it for laughs and WE'RE the ones who have been fooled -- but, well, it doesn't seem that way:

@candacesmith007 @OnionSports yes I saw that BS @OnionSports @OnionSports whoever wrote that story never talk 2 the real ron harper! !!!!

— Ron Harper (@HARPER04_5) May 23, 2014

@qlippers whoever wrote that story never talk 2 me I was in college at miamiohio thanks... I never said I was on a dream team ever!!!!!

— Ron Harper (@HARPER04_5) May 22, 2014

No word on whether or not Harper is suing for libel.

This sloth welcomes you to the 2014 World Cup

by Rodger Sherman

"Heyyyyyyyy guyyyyyys! Do youuuu liiiiiiike soooooccerrrrrrrrrrrrr?"

There are concerns around the upcoming World Cup. Strikes and protests over the large amount of money spent on the porting event while many Brazilians live in third-world conditions. Stadiums that aren't necessarily ready. An American team that doesn't feature Landon Donovan.n the other hand: sloth!.

— pourmecoffee (@pourmecoffee) May 24, 2014

Hey buddy! You are the World Cup sloth. We're going to call you Norbert! Norbert the World Cup sloth! What was that stuff I said about protests? I forget!

Manaus, of course, is where the United States plays Portugal on June 22, the biggest city in the Amazon. It will be hot. Hopefully America's back line will be more fleet of foot than Norbert when dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo and crew.

Descendants Has Cast a Lot of Comedy Veterans as Classic Villains

The Disney Channel's misguided live-action TV movie about the offspring of Disney's most famous animated films has just added a lot of people with comedy backgrounds to its cast. Think Once Upon a Time meets High School Musical.

The Team Behind Indigenous Alaskan Video Game Never Alone Talks Cultural Representation

A couple weekends back, the trailer for Never Alone caught my eye. The first title from indigenous-owned Upper One Games, Never Alone follows the adventures of an Alaska Native girl named Nuna, who must save her people from an endless blizzard. The game is based heavily in traditional Iñupiaq folklore, with authenticity at the forefront. The description alone was enough to put this one on my must-play list, but a recent Post Arcade interview with some of the game's team members made me all the more excited for this project. From what I've read, the primary focus for Never Alone has been to share an underrepresented culture through a modern storytelling medium. It's a laudable goal, and one that its creators have not taken lightly. Upper One has partnered with E-Line Media for development, and both groups have been very conscious about getting this story right. Speaking with Post Arcade, Cook Inlet Tribal Council cultural ambassador Amy Fredeen discussed her role in developing the game, and the importance of open collaboration.

Back in 2012 we first posted about GIF-ITI, animated murals that UK artist INSA makes by painstakingly painting animation frames on walls and buildings. INSA has created much more fantastic GIF-ITI in the interim, including some intriguing works he made while traveling in Africa.
