Less than a week after police forcibly removed demonstrators from Istanbul's central Taksim square, Turkish anti-government protestors re-occupied the space—without fanfare, violence, planning or noise.

On Monday afternoon, an artist and dancer named Erdem Gündüz (arrested in the past for protesting the ban on headscarves at Turkish universities) arrived at Taksim Square, turned to face the Ataturk Cultural Center, planted his feet on the ground and put his hands in his pockets, and stood. Police prodded him; passers-by photographed him. And eventually started to join him.

Within hours, Gündüz was joined by scores of other demonstrators in Taksim.

By early Tuesday morning, the square had been effectively re-occupied by some 200 standing men and women. And that's when police moved in, removing the passive, nonresistant protestors via bus. (Gündüz managed to slip away.)

The next day, they showed up again. And not just in Taksim—as news of Gündüz's protest spread, demonstrators across the country performed their own standing man protests, posting photos under the hashtag #DuranAdam.

If you're going to be out in the sun all day, sunscreen is your friend. However, warm, slimy, and runny sunscreen is a very unpleasant friend. Protect your skin and make putting on sunscreen more comfortable by keeping the bottle in a cooler bag.

This tip comes from the Be It Ever So Humble blog, where Mrs. Mordecai writes:

I put the sunscreen in an insulated lunchbox and kept an ice pack in the top when we were away from home. Not only has the sunscreen remained effective through the summer (we have had NO sunburns this summer, hooray!), it has been much nicer to put on. I hate putting on warm, oily, slimy sunscreen.

As a bonus, the sunscreen is always corralled in one place now, and it's easy to grab if we want to take it with us.

Toss your sunscreen in the cooler when you head to the beach not only to prevent the sunscreen from becoming gross and separated, but also to keep it from losing its effectiveness.

In this video, RRcherrypie (a connoisseur of weird Japanese candy) opens a box of Moko Moko Mokoletto, a candy that is mixed in a tiny plastic toilet. The little toilet is first assembled and then flavored powder is added to the back of the toilet with water which activates it. Of course then you drink the bubbly “toilet water” with a small straw because that’s not weird at all. Oh and you can add little stickers to your toilet to give it a face.

There is no official release date for De La Soul’s You’re Welcome, but fans can expect it to drop this fall.

Mother-of-two Mindy Crandell was standing in line at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida, waiting to buy a Powerball ticket in the hopes of claiming her share of a historic $590.5 million payday, when 84-year-old Gloria C. Mackenzie suddenly cut in front of her.

"My 10-year-old said, 'Mom, There's a lady in front of us,'" the 34-year-old Crandall told ABC News last night. "I noticed that the lady was there. Didn't pay a lot of mind to it."

The cashier even stopped Mackenzie and gave Crandell an opportunity to buy her tickets first, but she declined.

The octogenarian, who purchased a single Quick Pick ticket, went on to be the sole winner of the Powerball jackpot later that night.

Crandall recalled her friends and family teasing her about letting Mackenzie cut in line.

"The joke was, that's the lady that's going to win it. I was like, 'Yeah right. No one is going to win from little Zephyrhills,'" she said.

Asked if she had any regrets, Crandell said she didn't. "It could have been us, but things happen," she told ABC.

Speaking with Tamba Bay's WTSP, Crandell said the most important thing is that her daughter Mallory learned a valuable lesson that day.

Which is? "That being polite is better than being rich," Mallory said.

A Providence, Rhode Island, mother whose teenage daughter was shot during a family member's kindergarten graduation party was clearly in no mood for reporters when approached by a news crew from the local ABC affiliate WLNE.

But Channel 6 News reporter Abbey Niezgoda, 24, persisted, and Melissa Lawrence decided to resort to violence in order to get her to leave.

According to Niezgoda, Lawrence initially replied "OK, that's good" when asked for a reaction to her daughter's shooting, but then "suddenly hurled a rock at ABC6 photographer Marc Jackson."

A video of the incident, shot by Jackson, appears to edit out some interaction between Lawrence's response and the rock-throwing, so it is unclear how much time actually passed between the two moments.

Niezgoda claims the crew "started to leave" when Lawrence reemerged from her house holding a baseball bat.

The footage skips forward again to the moment Lawrence orders her two pit bull terriers to attack Niezgoda and Jackson.

The 24-year-old reporter is forced to drop her mic and flee from the dogs, but one apparently managed to leave a bite mark on her forearm.

Lawrence was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault. She was wearing a "My Attitude is Your Problem" T-shirt at the time.

Lawrence was later released on $50,000 bail and ordered to return for her hearing on August 8th.

As for Lawrence's daughter Ny'asia, she has been released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to the lower back, and is continuing her recovery at home.

Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic recently explored Fast Food Boulevard, a newly opened of The Simpsons’ Springfield area at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida. He says that the park has opened “Moe’s Tavern, Krusty Burger, Cletus’ Chicken Shack, the Frying Dutchman, Luigi’s Pizza and more” and that they all serve up “previously fictional food and drinks – including Duff Beer.” He notes that “the rest of the Springfield area is still under construction, including the Duff Brewery and Twirl n Hurl ride” but they “should be opening later this summer.” Be sure to see all the photos and videos of the park at Ricky’s site, Inside the Magic.

Eye-Fi has released the Mobi, an SD card that automatically sends photos and videos to your smartphone or tablet. The Class 10 SD card pairs with a free iOS or Android app, uses built-in Wi-Fi to transfer new photos and video to your device, and then shuts off the Wi-Fi to preserve battery life. Saudi Arabia is practically infamous for just how batshit insane its drivers are. Jalopnik once attributed this to "open desert roads," but it probably has a little something to do with having too many men on the road at one time.

But that's neither here nor there, especially since this video is just as much about the recklessness of the driver as it is about the death wish of his passenger.

While traveling from Riyadh to Mecca, one passing motorist noticed a man texting away on his BlackBerry while sitting on the hood of a car going over 90km/h (56 mp/h).

Some of the commenters criticized the daredevil for failing to heed his mother's sage advice about not taking unnecessary risks.

You can be sure that if his mother were allowed to be behind the wheel, this sort of this would never have come to pass.

These adorable fluffy cows are “show cattle,” a cross between two high-quality breeds of cattle whose luxurious coats have been fluffed up using product, hair dryers, and a lot of time. According to Lautner Farms, it takes about two hours and copious amounts of hairspray and oil to style one of these fluffy cows for showtime. In another blog post, Lautner Farms provides more information on the styling process:

Tony Bruguiere, a photojournalist based in Colorado reported that there are many different tools used to make a bovine look divine, including ” an ergonomically shaped squeegee to remove excess water after washing, a powered “Roto Fluffer” to remove guard hairs, high velocity blowers for drying, chutes especially designed to hold the cattle during grooming, huge turbo fans to keep a constant flow of air moving through the animals hair and more clipper and blade combinations than you can count.” Bruguiere also indicated that groomers use a lot of product to get the cattle looking spiffy listing “shampoos, conditioners, adhesives including a special one just for the tail, mousse, oil, dyes, paints in six different shades, hair builder, hair polish, sun screen, and removal products to get all this stuff off the hair.”

Russian scientists have announced the recovery of well-preserved woolly mammoth blood and tissue from a 10,000-year-old female carcass found on the New Siberian Islands off the coast of Siberia. The Russian scientists and their partners from the South Korean Sooam Biotech Research Foundation hope to use the blood and tissue to clone a woolly mammoth. The Russian team was astonished to find the blood in a liquid state, despite that fact that the carcass was surrounded by ice. They theorize that the blood may contain a kind of natural antifreeze.

BERLIN – Police have identified 36-year-old Johannes Van der Burgh as the primary suspect in Friday night’s gruesome nightclub slaying of 22-year-old Polish DJ Mark Borowski.

Van der Burgh — who was apprehended after police received several key leads from eyewitness testimony — confessed to the murder. He added to the confession by telling police that he was simply doing what “any vinyl purist would have done.”

Eyewitnesses state Van der Burgh was seen hastily leaving Berlin’s esteemed Berghain night club visibly distraught by something that had occurred inside. Further eyewitness accounts confirm that Van Der Burgh followed Browoski home to his apartment.

Borowski had just finished performing a set of big-room techno on the popular computer DJ software Traktor, a set that according to many other concert-goers left the audience frustrated.

“[Borowski's] simplistic dynamics and preset loops would drag for 16, 32, or even 64 bars at a time,” says clubber Daniel Hirsch.

“It’s doesn’t really surprise me that he was murdered.”

Popular DJ software has been know to induce rage in older DJs who fear things are becoming “too easy”

Police arrived at Borowski’s apartment after receiving numerous calls from his neighbors who claimed they heard some sort of dispute arising from within his home.

Upon entry, police discovered a lifeless Borowski laying among two Technics SL1200 turntables. One turntable was covered in Borowski’s own blood, the other plugged in and still playing a copy of Kraftwerk’s “Man Machine.”

An ironically named mother in North Carolina had her own teenage son arrested after he allegedly took her Pop-Tarts without permission.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were called to the home of Latasha Renee Love earlier this week after the 37-year-old reported her $5 box of Pop-Tarts stolen.

When the cops arrived, Love "fingered her own son, who is a juvenile, as the culprit," according to a local NBC affiliate.

Though The Smoking Gun, which obtained the official police report, says the mother was attempting to teach the boy "some kind of lesson," a neighbor told WCNC he knew the kid, and he "is real respectful."

The unnamed kid's misdemeanor larceny case will be brought before a juvenile court judge at a date to be determined.

An attempt by the TV station to obtain a comment from the mother was met with obscenities.
