No. 1: He’s a real person, and so much more than just a logo.
His full name is Burt Shavitz; he's 79 years old, lives in a rural part of Maine, and is the subject of the new documentary Burt's Buzz.
Produced and directed by Jody Shapiro and executive produced by Isabella Rossellini, the film catalogs Burt's (born Ingram Berg) rise to quasi-celebrity as the founder and face of the popular company. He began with a single hive of his own bees, expanded to 26, and now his face is recognizable as Burt's Bees' iconic logo across the globe.

He's not entirely comfortable with fame.
Burt lives an intensely private life — "A good day," he says in the film, "is when no one shows up and you don't have to go anywhere." Still, he's occasionally recognized for his distinctive look (especially when rocking his cap with a bee on the front), and on a promotional trip to Taiwan, documented in the film and pictured above, he's positively swarmed with fans.

Or at least, when BuzzFeed asked him about it recently in Manhattan, he started to tell an elaborate story about an entirely different thing, which is probably for the best.
