Chris.d.wooHow cool is this?
Working with Neutral Ground, I designed and illustrated this map of Ocarina of Time’s Hyrule. In addition to making sure the map displayed the correct form of Hylian (Hyrule’s ever-changing language), I played through the most recent 3DS version of Ocarina of Time to ensure the cartography was equally faithful. Doing so helped to make sure the already dense map was full of little details and suprises, like Lord Jabu-Jabu in Zora’s Fountain, and the Royal Family’s tomb in the Kakariko Village Graveyard.
After illustrating the map, I handed it off to Neutral Ground, where they were laser engraved onto 18″ x 24″ pieces of hand-selected wood.
Sign up to be notified when the maps will be available for purchase at Neutral Ground’s shop.
Featured on Polygon, Kotaku, Game Informer and The Nerdist.
By Alex Griendling / Blog / TwitterWow. All epic fan art should be laser engraved.

Texas Offers SpaceX $15 Million in Incentives to Build Private Spaceport
Chris.d.wooI know NASA has tried to build a launch site in Texas before, but from what I remember it's a pain in the ass for polar launches (which go southerly and therefore over land into Mexico).
Comics
Chris.d.wooOkay did the art just get really weird on this or have I been missing something? Like everyone looks off-model.

Chris.d.wooSeriously I think this Y-wing is cooler than the one we got in the movies. Look at that bubble canopy!
Ralph McQuarrie concept art from 1975 “Battle for Death Star (fighters dive on sphere)”
That is one bitchin’ Y-Wing.

What the fuck. What thef. Uck. You come on here, you come into my house, you take a shit on my post you shit on garlic bread, you shit on everything I stand for, on this, the day of my daughter’s wedding… .

Chris.d.wooSo to continue what seems to be our trend of home decorating posts, this would be cool to have.
Also I'm sure Adam would like the "great use of space" pun.
This is the kinda beautiful shit i desperately need in my room.
Someone come paint my walls like this. I’ll pay you in cookies and high fives
but wow, what a great use of space these rooms have
WHERE CAN I HIRE THIS ARTIST
great use of space
great use of SPACE
ARE WE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THAT COMMENT. SERIOUSLY
omg you could make it look like you’re looking out of the Normandy guys
Woah.
paul4allseasons: it was goooooooooooooooooooooood I saw this...
Chris.d.wooCan I just say that you guys should really see this? Adam: I sort of believe that our SWRPG crew are basically these guys. Though, I suppose, the closest analog to my character would be Rocket Raccoon. He's sweary, has something of a Napoleon complex, has a big fucking gun, and is generally misanthropic. He's awesome.
it was goooooooooooooooooooooood
I saw this again today with some friends! IT WAS AMAZING THE SECOND TIME!!!

Chris.d.wooSo during the second viewing of Guardians I counted to see that, yes, it passes the Bechdel Test, but it doesn't exactly do so well — that is to say there are solely two (maybe three) conversations between female characters and women still are a huge minority of the named characters.
It's still a fun movie though.

Chris.d.wooSeriously, what's not to love about this?
I remember finding Kiichi’s website about eight or nine years ago because she draws things I like to see.
The thing I love about this cartooning is that it is both whimsical and extremely technical. I mean look at that Soyuz-U rocket cutaway!

Chris.d.wooAlso if you guys can, get in on Orphan Black. It's just a ridiculous show. One actress playing like seven-to-twelve parts — convincingly. Passes the Bechdel test like it was an open calculator arithmetic test.
Orphan Black Poster by Me
Proof once again that Orphan Black fan artists are the best fan artists.

Chris.d.wooI have to say, I'm really glad that WB has finally gotten that Wonder Woman is supposed to be a super badass. And here she looks the part.
This is what Wonder Woman looks like in ‘Batman v. Superman’
Zack Snyder surprised Comic-Con crowds this morning by opening up Warner Bros.’ big panel with art and a teaser for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. While none of it is online yet, tweets from the panel show the reveal of what Gal Gadot looks like as Wonder Woman.
Hot shit that’s great. And I really liked Gadot in the Fast and Furious films.

Episode 1072: Expanded Universe
Chris.d.wooA planet with alcohol vapor for an atmosphere would be really weird.
Making up maps on the fly is an important skill for a GM. Because you know that even the most casually described location is going to get searched exhaustively and the players will want to know the details of every building and room and tree and rock to make sure they don't miss any secret doors or hidden loot.
A good diversionary tactic to use to give yourself more time to come up with this stuff is to suddenly demand a saving throw. If you make the reasons for it mysterious and not fully revealed, that should keep the players occupied with other things for a good few minutes, and may even make them want to go somewhere else - like maybe the area you have prepared in advance.

Chris.d.wooI would LOVE to talk about how nuts this wedding was but I just don't know where to start. So much drama....
I thought I had posted about it earlier but apparently I didn’t — and cell reception was nonexistent at the site — but MY BROTHER GOT MARRIED TODAY!!!
It was a great ceremony, though it was unbelievably hot (like 35C/95F).There’s the lovely couple with my parents!

Chris.d.wooWoohoo! Also it's a shame most people don't know about the Lunokhod program. There's a pretty good argument to be made that they did more science than the Apollo program. Though I don't know what the cost analysis between the two would be. I think the Apollo program would still be more expensive, but with the way the Soviets were it's hard to put a price tag on most of their projects.
mlb: Hm. Probably not where he intended that throw to...
Chris.d.wooThe full play of this is pretty bad. It SHOULD have been a pretty standard fly out but Raburn is relatively slow for an outfielder. He ends up misjudging the ball, hitting it with his wrist. Then there's the awful throw. At most that should have been a double and not an inside the park home run...
mlb:
Hm. Probably not where he intended that throw to go.
Not the first time Raburn has “helped” the opposite team hit a home run. He did it while playing for Detroit…
salon: Rich Millennials will destroy our future. This is just...
Chris.d.wooSo as you can tell this bugs me. Like just about all "millennials are terrible" article ever.
This is just bad statistics. How do these rates compare with other generations? Or in another words: is it the fact that these individuals are millennials that are driving their lack of support for the social security system or is it their wealth? How do rich boomers feel about the social safety net? Given the average age of the Tea Party and its politicians, I wouldn’t be patting myself on the back…
Also the graphs don’t show what happens when a poor millennial becomes wealthy. The article itself spends the first half talking about how rich millennials have benefited from inherited wealth and reductions in the estate tax and progressive tax systems in the 70s and 80s and then tries to assuage the reader that lower income millennials aren’t getting richer. But we ”know” that lower income brackets do support expanding the social safety net — so why is it a good thing that these individuals are systematically prevented from earning more money (and, as a result, influencing policy)? There’s no data, here, on what happens when lower income millennials become higher income millennials.
So basically: come back when you have statistical rigor.

Chris.d.wooBTW guys this food was fantastic. And fried pickle chips is just goddamn brilliant. And the pineapple was inside the hot dog. It was sooooo tasty.
At the Giants/A’s game at Pac Bell. Some ridiculous food options: turkey, corned beef, and brisket sliders; pineapple sausage hot dog; and fried pickle chips. All very tasty!
Episode 1066: A Punctual Arrival
Chris.d.wooI'm sharing this solely for the really sweet mapping links at the bottom.
Making maps for gaming can be a time-intensive task. You can draw them by hand, or there are various software tools available for making professional looking maps relatively quickly. Some resources, both for map-making software and for tips on drawing game maps:
- Hexographer - old school roleplaying style mapping software.
- Campaign Cartographer - a long-standing game mapping program.
- The Cartographers Guild - a site devoted to providing resources for game mapping.
- Map-Making in Games - Google+ community for game mappers.
- Observations of the Fox - blog by Michael Wenman, full of game mapping goodies.
