hello sfgirlbybay readers! si here, from the frenchbydesign blog, for a new “i could live here” house tour! today, we’re visiting the home of danish brand vipp’s chief designer.

in this circa 1910 pencil factory building, morten bo jensen, chief designer atvipp and his partner, graphic designer kristina may olsen have created a dreamy open space modern loft. morten and kristina have mixed repurposed vintage finds with their own creations – the carbon colored kitchen is a vipp design by morten himself. the home is also family and kid friendly for twin daughters merle and anine – p.s : i want their dollhouse, again, designed and built by super dad.

a light filled space, salvaged pieces, modern scandinavian design at its best, in the beautiful city of copenhagen? oh, yes, i could live here!

Though I don’t have a homepage set, the first page in my daily rounds is always the Astronomy Picture of the Day (site currently down), a website launched by NASA and the Michigan Technological University way back in 1995, a nearly continous publication run of 18 years. Unfortunately due some minor, uhm, budget cuts in the U.S. government, all NASA websites are currently down due to a crushing 97% cut in workforce, including the humble Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Luckily there’s at least one space agency still publishing photos of space (and space from Earth), the European Space Agency. The ESA has an incredible Observing the Earth archive that’s updated every week and each satelitte image is usually accompanied by a brief essay to explain a bit about what you’re looking at. Collected here are some of my favorite images from the last few years taken with too many different satellites to mention, and you can search photos back through 2005 here. (via Devid Sketchbook)

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

by decor8
Jimena Azpeitia

me haces uno?

Hello everyone! Jillian here with this month’s Delicious Bites column for decor8 where I’m going to show you how to make Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts. It’s spring time in Sydney but I know that autumn is coming to the Northern Hemisphere. So for the next few months I’ll be making treats using winter and autumn produce. This month, I decided it was time to make something a little fancier than usual so I combined 2 of my favourite fruits with an almond flavoured filling to make individual fig and raspberry frangipane tarts.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

Frangipane is an almond flavoured butter cream and I use it all the time when making fruit tarts. I make different varieties depending on which fruit is in season and use different nuts as well. If figs aren’t in season where you live you can make this with any other kind of berry or soft fruit. Rhubarb, pear or plum frangipane tarts are particularly delicious but if you come up with any other flavour combinations, I’d love to hear them.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

I put a layer of jam in the bottom of the tart shell which matches the fruit used to top the tart. I decided to use raspberry jam this time but you could always use fig jam or some other red berry jam. If the thought of making pastry terrifies you, you can always buy pastry from the freezer section of the supermarket and I’ll let you in on a secret, you can make the frangipane tarts without pastry. Just grease and flour some muffin or friand tins and bake the filling in those topped with the fruit and you’ll still end up with a yummy treat. When the tarts come out of the oven I brush the filling with a little jam to make them look glossy.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

FIG AND RASPBERRY FRANGIPANE TARTS (makes six 10 cm tarts)

Pastry
Note: The pastry makes enough to line a 23 cm tart shell so there will be some pastry left over. If you’d like to make this into a 23cm/9 inch tart you’ll need to double the filling.
110 g (4 oz) cold unsalted butter, diced
1/4 cup icing sugar (confectioner’s sugar)
1/4 cup almond meal
1 3/4 cups plain flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
Cold water

Frangipane
75 gm (2 1/2 oz) unsalted butter
75 gm (2 1/2 oz) caster sugar
1 large egg
75 gm almond meal
1 tablespoon plain flour
1 tablespoon rum or orange juice
1/4 cup raspberry jam

Topping
6 – 8 figs (depending on size)
1 punnet raspberries
1/4 cup flaked almonds
Thick cream to serve

Optional

Extra raspberry jam

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

How To:

To make the pastry, combine all the dry ingredients in a food processor, and whiz for a few seconds until well combined and free of lumps. Add the cold butter and whiz until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the egg and sufficient cold water and whiz until a soft dough just starts to form around the blade. Remove the dough from the food processor and gather the pastry into a ball; flatten slightly before wrapping in plastic and placing in the fridge. Refrigerate the pastry for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface (I use greaseproof paper) and roll out thinly with a rolling pin. Grease six 10 cm loose bottom fluted tartlet tins. Line the six tins with the pastry and trim the edges of the tart tins with a sharp knife. Lightly prick the pastry surface with the tines of a fork and return to the fridge for another 30 minutes. Line the tart shells with muffin liners and fill with pastry weights or uncooked rice. Bake for 10 minutes and then remove paper and weights. Bake for a further 5 minutes or until the shells are golden. Cool the pastry shells on a wire rack. While the tartlet shells are cooling, make the frangipane filling.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

Place butter and caster sugar in a food processor and whiz to combine. Add the egg, the almond meal, the flour and the rum or orange juice, then pulse to combine. Spoon 1 – 2 teaspoons of the raspberry jam over the base of the cooled tart shells. Evenly divide the frangipane filling between the tarts and gently spoon over the jam. Place 2 or 3 fig halves cut side up into the frangipane filling. Tuck in a few of the raspberries and sprinkle a few flaked almonds over the tarts.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

Place the 6 tartlets onto a baking sheet and place on the middle shelf of the oven. Bake at 190°C/375°F for 30-40 minutes until the frangipane filling has slightly puffed and is golden brown. Baking time will depend on your oven so start checking the tarts after 20 minutes. Remove the tray from the oven and cool the tartlets on a wire rack. Gently remove the tarts from the tins and serve with cream and remaining raspberries. If you like you can glaze the cooked figs and raspberries with some warmed, strained raspberry jam.

Delicious Bites: Fig + Raspberry Frangipane Tarts

I love individual tarts but if you’d like to make one 23cm/9 inch tart, the pastry recipe is enough to line a 23 cm tart shell. You’ll need to make a double batch of the frangipane mixture and you may need to adjust the baking time a little.

I hope you enjoy the tarts. See you all again next month! – Jillian

Crushing On Smeg Refrigerators

by decor8

Okay so I’m thinking to buy a pure white SMEG refrigerator. I even started a smeg pinboard because it helps me to see all of my choices in one place (do you do that too?). Did you know that I once had a vintage 1950s super pale pink refrigerator when I was single living in Boston but left it behind in a rental apartment because I couldn’t find anyone to help me carry it out? Of course you didn’t, I never told you that story.

Smeg

Okay so once upon a time I was like 23 years old and completely broke living from paycheck to paycheck, so I never could afford movers back then so when I moved, I bribed my friends in exchange for pizza and beer. But I always felt sad that I left pinky, my retro pink fridge, behind. Yeah, I named it. After a Pac-man character. I totally know that is strange but I was 20 when I first got it, so what do you expect? Well wait. I still name objects (even my husband’s white BMW, I named it stormtrooper). Back to the point of this post… I will never forget when my friend offered me the pink fridge that her husband had and cherished. He loved design and old stuff. And he happened to look just like Hugh Grant (Notting Hill version not current version) and I had this total crush on him because he was cute and loved design and lived in such a great house that he helped decorate. He was so cool.

Looking back, sheesh, can you believe I had a crush on a married guy? Have you ever had a crush on a married guy, but even more sinful, your friend’s husband? That’s pretty dark, right? I guess I can justify this because I was under 21 and you aren’t the brightest bulb in the lamp when you’re super hormonal and single and young.

I first saw that pale pink beauty in their home when I was 17 and fell in LOVE. I envied it for years. One day, when I was about 20, they offered it to me for free. I nearly died. I guess it’s because I nearly made out with it when I saw it in their kitchen (think Mary Katherine from Superstar – video clip here for a good laugh) so they figured I should be the new proud owner. That was a really good 3 years. I decorated my entire kitchen around that thing – I hung oversized floral wallpaper that was very Tricia Guild on the walls and painted the horrible brown wooden rental apartment cabinets in glossy white and, combined with my gorgeous pale pink fridge, I had a pretty rockin’ kitchen for a single girl with no bank account. And then, 3 years later, it was gone  and now I want a unique little refrigerator again and smeg would fill the gap I’ve had in my heart ever since. :) Especially a white one like this bad boy below…

Smeg

I know most of my friends back home have these massive double door fridges with computerized this and built-in water systems and televisions that – lots of bells and whistles, some do the laundry and vacuum your home (kidding), but I’m living in Europe remember and people just don’t do ‘big’ here like we Americans do ‘big’.  So I think a Smeg fridge may be a good buy for my city apartment. It’s single door and normal-sized, and will hold what I need it to hold for a family of two. Plus, Smegs are trendy and usually I don’t care about what is trendy or not, unless I love the trend, and in this case I do so that’s fine.

Plus, how often do appliances trend? I think the smeg stove is popular, and the kitchenaid mixers are pretty trendy, but not much else in the appliance world really trends. (Too bad, appliance manufacturers need to smarten up because they could make a killing if they partnered with top bloggers to promote their goods, Igor are you listening – let’s change this!!!). I see smeg stuff in some of the best homes over here in Europe. I have this Smeg stove that I bought in England so I think he needs a lover and the lover will be called Smeg. Kinda like saying Meg with a lisp.

I wanted a Smeg when we first moved over in 2009 but couldn’t imagine spending the money on one, they’re not cheap, and the one we had worked perfectly fine. BUT. But now that our current refrigerator isn’t doing the job (joy! happy! time to justify this to the husband!), I’m ready to splurge and get something good and cute. This post is filled with some good pics from my inspiration file found via Pinterest showing smeg in a variety of kitchens from country to industrial, modern and retro… It’s pretty versatile for the most part.

Smeg

Smeg

Smeg

Okay so enough chatter from me. I’m going to shut up and let you talk. What do you think? Do you have a Smeg refrigerator? Do you like it? I’d love some opinions on this! It’s not like I can buy one and return it. So any helpful advice would be great! Sometimes I wonder if aesthetics are soooo important, because when I see this fridge I imagine it would be so much better than a Smeg quality-wise with bells and whistles BUT it doesn’t have that retro charm… Hmmm…

i wanna be tall like jenna lyons.

jenna-lyons-office

i’ve long admired jenna lyons. not just envious of her damn long legs, it’s her style, too. quirky, feminine with a tomboy touch. it’s somewhat unexpected and she makes us all want it. well, at least this someone. there’s a great article in fast company this month about how jenna helped turn j.crew around and i found it most inspiring. and her office? it’s pretty inspiring too — from the hand written notes from anna wintour, to the fuzzy peach throw on the back of her leather office chair (oh, and those vintage cherners across her desk) it’s all quite covetable. oh and just for fun, you can also have a look at sam rohn’s wild panorama 360 tour of jenna’s office. yeah, i wanna be tall, just like jenna lyons — but probably the only way that’s gonna happen is if i get a pair of her ‘shiny ponies’.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

by decor8

Hi everyone, it’s Jillian here with this month’s Delicious Bites column. A few weeks ago a friend invited me over for a family dinner. We have a standing agreement — she provides the main course while I bring along the dessert. One of the family members has loads of likes and dislikes when it comes to food, which means dessert has to be either lemon flavoured or made from apples, or it won’t be eaten. I don’t like bringing the same dessert twice and as I’ve already brought along a classic lemon tart, a lemon drizzle cake and lemon squares, so I needed to come up with something new.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

I looked through my fridge and saw the pot of lemon curd leftover from last month’s brown sugar meringues. I don’t like wasting food so I started thinking of ways to use the leftover curd and decided to make lemon meringue tarts. I made 4 lemon meringue tarts with the leftover curd and they were such a hit, even with the children, that the other dessert I brought along was completely ignored. It’s a bit involved but I thought you might like the recipe.

The tarts themselves aren’t complicated to make, it’s just lemon curd spooned into tart shells topped with a cloud of meringue but the whole process is a bit time consuming. There’s lots of cooling involved so I would make the tart shells and lemon curd the day before you plan to make the tarts and you could always cheat a bit by buying ready made tart shells.

I’m not a fan of uncooked meringue so I baked the lemon meringue tarts in a hot oven for about 10 minutes. n the first batch I made, the high temperature melted the regular lemon curd so I’ve added a little cornflour to the lemon curd filling to stop that happening. If you brulee the meringue with a blow torch instead of baking it, you could leave out the cornflour (cornstarch). I’ve also dialled back the sugar content in the curd as there is plenty of sugar in the meringue topping. The crumb layer idea came from an old Dione Lucas lemon meringue pie recipe I found in one of my cookbooks. You can’t taste the cardamom but it seems to add a depth of flavour.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Here’s my recipe for you.

Lemon Meringue Tarts (makes twelve 8 cm tarts)

Crumb layer:
2 tablespoons dry breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons caster sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl. Put to one side.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Pastry

110 gm (4 oz) cold unsalted butter, diced
1/4 cup icing sugar (confectioner’s sugar)
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon rind
1/4 cup almond meal
1 1/4 cups plain flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
Cold water

To make the pastry, combine all the dry ingredients and the lemon rind in a food processor and whiz for a few seconds until well combined and free of lumps. Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface (I use a large sheet of greaseproof paper) and roll out thinly with a rolling pin. Grease twelve 8 cm tartlet tins. Cut out circles of pastry large enough to fit the tart shells. Line the tins with the pastry and trim the edges of the tart tins with a sharp knife. Lightly prick the pastry surface with the tines of a fork and return to the fridge for another 30 minutes. Line the tart shells with muffin liners and fill with pastry weights or uncooked rice. Bake for 10 minutes and then remove paper and weights. Bake for a further 5 to 10 minutes or until the tart shells are golden.Take the tart shells out of the oven and sprinkle about ½ teaspoon of the breadcrumb mixture over the base of each of the warm tart shells. Place the tart shells on a wire rack to cool. If you want, you can make the tart shells a day ahead and store them in an airtight container.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Lemon curd filling
4 large egg yolks
Finely grated rind of 2 lemons
150 ml (2/3 cup) strained lemon juice
1/2 cup caster sugar
2 teaspoons cornflour (cornstarch), optional
120 gm (4 oz) unsalted butter

Place the egg yolks, the lemon rind, juice, cornflour (if using) and sugar into a small bowl and place over a pan of simmering water. Whisk the mixture until smooth. Keep whisking for 10 minutes until thickened. Remove from the heat and add the butter in small batches until well combined. Set aside to cool. When completely cool cover the bowl and place the curd in the fridge and allow it to set. The curd will keep for a few weeks in the fridge in a sealed sterilized jar.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Meringue topping
4 large egg whites
Pinch cream of tartar
1 cup caster sugar
Additional caster sugar

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F. Fill each tart shell about 2/3 full with the lemon curd. In a large clean dry bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until thick and gradually add the sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time. Beat until the sugar dissolves. Using a spoon, decoratively swirl the meringue over the filled tart shells or you can pipe the meringue over the top, sealing the tarts completely with the meringue. Place the tart shells on a baking sheet and lightly sprinkle a little extra caster sugar over the meringue topping.

Bake the tarts in the preheated oven (190°C/375°F) for 10 minutes or until the meringue is golden brown. If you prefer, you can use a brulee torch to colour the meringue. Take the tarts out of the oven and cool the tarts on a wire rack.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

Once the tarts have cooled, return them to the fridge for a few hours to allow the filling to firm before serving.

Delicious Bites: Lemon Meringue Tarts

I hope you enjoy the lemon meringue tarts. I’ll be back in June with a summery Delicious Bites treat for you. See you all then – Jillian - and have a lovely Saturday!

Las Pozas

by Jen McCabe
Jimena Azpeitia

ya vamos a Xilitla!

Well, Las Pozas Surrealist Sculpture Garden in Xilitla, Mexico is now in my top 3 places I hope to visit. You know you’re obsessed when you’re up at 1AM doing searches on how to drive 7 hours from Mexico City up into a subtropical rainforest in the mountains. The lush surrealist’s garden with 36 sculptures, canals, pools, arches, rooms and stairs to nowhere were designed by eccentric British millionaire poet and patron of the arts, Edward James.

honey-kennedy-las-pozas-erik-b-01

honey-kennedy-las-pozas-photo-by-i_amici-02

I’ve become a bit fascinated by Mr. James as well. I mean, I have fantasies of gallivanting around the world because I’m an heir to obscene wealth and needn’t concern myself with mundane things like paying the mortgage and how to budget for a vacation or the two dental crowns I need. It might be easy for some to write him off as a spoiled bon vivant, but I can’t help feeling incredibly grateful for his contributions to the arts. It really is remarkable and the impact he had on so many lives is inspiring.

honey-kennedy-las-pozas-photo-by-lucy-nieto-01

Edward James really had an immeasurable affect on the Surrealist art movement–which is very near and dear to my heart. He spent millions and millions of dollars on artwork and even on fully supporting artists, like Salvador Dalí, financially for years while they painted, and René Magritte who he gave a place to live and work. I feel indebted to him for supporting and investing in the Surrealist movement and the careers of some of my favorite artists–without that kind of time to create and a demand for their work, some of them may have remained in obscurity.

His art collection also included works by Hieronymus Bosch, Giorgio de Chirico, Paul Klee, Leonora Carrington, Pavel Tchelitchew, Pablo Picasso, Giacometti, Max Ernst and Paul Delvaux and a lot of others.

His love for artistic expression also made him keen on creative education. While still very much alive, Edward James gave his English family home and estate, West Dean, to a charitable educational trust instead of keeping it as his residence. The estate is now West Dean College which teaches artists and craftspeople and employs many more faculty and even many farmers on the 6,350 acres.

Then there’s Las Pozas–Edward James’ own personal magnificent surrealist creation. A magical Garden of Eden. Starting in 1949, Mr. James designed and commissioned local builders, sculptors, tradesmen and craftspeople to help build his dream over the next 35 years. It’s beautiful how the elements and terrain have been claiming Las Pozas as their own. Vines, brambles, moss and earth are taking over the sculptures and making it even more breathtaking.

I think this excerpt from one of Mr. James’ poems really rings true about his life’s work:

Here amid the warmth of the rain, what might have been
is resolved into the tenderness of a tall doom
who says: ‘You did your best, rest’ – and after you the bloom
of what you loved and planted still will whisper what you mean.

Secluded in a charming forest landscape in Michigan USA, Glen Lake Tower is an unusual residential retreat developed by the creative team at Balance Associates. The aim of the project was to design “a sustainable retreat that reflects the timeless beauty and simple comforts of the area“. Natural light and views of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan beyond were ensured by lifting the living zones from the ground, cleverly integrating a garage at the building’s base.

The structure of the unusual retreat is described by the architects as follows: “As intricately detailed steel stairs climb the tower, they move from exterior to interior and from more enclosed to more open spaces, culminating in a breathtaking, glass-wrapped kitchen/living/dining space at the fourth level. Here, thirty feet above the ground, the clients enjoy views of the landscape they love, from either the birch-lined interior or expansive cantilevered decks“. How do you like the output? Would you change anything about this home design? Powerful Aerial Photography of International Airports by Jeffrey Milstein

by Lavinia

Always good to have a perspective on things! Photographer and former Berkeley architecture student Jeffrey Milstein illustrates this in his numerous artworks with a predominant aviation theme. His recent exhibition featured intriguing photography of flying commercial aircrafts captured from beneath. This new series stays true to the theme, yet captures striking aerial images of famous airports, such as Newark Liberty International Airport (first two shots) and JFK International Airport (the following photos of the post).

From above, the airports showcase more than their practical nature. Jeffrey Milstein describes these works as revealing “the patterns, layering and complexity of cities, and the circulation patterns for travel, such as waterways, roads, and airports that grow organically over time much like a living organism.” We like this unexpected approach of finding artistic meaning to an unconventional public space. How would you comment on the photos below?

Kate Spade Saturday: Block Party!

by Kate

Kate Spade SATURDAY via witanddelight.com

Ms. Spade just introduced us to her hip, urban sister. Enter: SATURDAY, the new brand from the lady-like, personable and all-around good time, Kate Spade.

Bold, minimal, graphic and abstract, SATURDAY‘s products are casual enough to wear, well… on a Saturday. Lately, the ladies over at SATURDAY have had a lot of fun jazzing up minimally classic windowpane patterning. In fact, I contributed a tote to the collection you’ll find here. Pretty cool round up, right?

Color Pop: Lily Lampshade by Desinature

From designer Etienne Esmenjaud, founder of the UK-based design collective Desinature, comes Lily, a reversible lampshade that will add some serious color to your interiors. Flip the petals over when assembling and you have an outer white shade with a barely visible peek of color from the inside.

The flat-packed fixture assembles in minutes with your choice of which way you want to go – bold (color out) or subtle (color in). Each shade is made with the FSC-certified, British-made GFSmith Colourplan paper and a portion of the proceeds go to tree planting around the world.

Muting Everyday Noise: Cloud Boxes

by Jaime Derringer

Muting Everyday Noise: Cloud Boxes

Studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters have created Cloud Boxes, a series of five cloud-inspired storage boxes commissioned by PROOFFlab.

Made of semi-transparent latex, the boxes not only dampen sound but visual noise, too.

Muting Everyday Noise: Cloud Boxes in home furnishings Category

Thinking about acoustics we realized quickly that silence wasn’t our goal in this project. It isn’t that bad to have sound around you when you’re working. It starts to be disturbing when sound becomes noise. Taking away sound doesn’t create silence; it just changes your definition of noise. We imagined our perfect solution should be like mist; a low-hanging cloud that doesn’t make the world around you disappear, but takes the sharp edges off and makes everything a little softer.

Every office has things they need to have, but don’t want to see. It comes in every scale from the stapler to the vacuum cleaner. We thought it would be great if you could place all these kind of needs in an office cloud. Not hiding them, so you don’t know where to find it anymore, but damping them by turning them into blurred silhouettes of color.

Stunning Observation Spot Located Under The Water Level in Austria

Observation Platform Stunning Observation Spot Located Under The Water Level in Austria

If you’re aiming to find unconventional, yet beautiful relaxing spots, here’s one you’d really love: the picturesque concrete Observation platform, “sunken” in the middle of the lake, in Vöcklabruck, Austria. We’ve spotted it on My Modern Met and as soon as we saw it, we thought this is just too awesome to keep it just for us. The strange spot attracts tourists like a magnet, because it was designed to allow people to walk below the water surface without getting them wet. Who wouldn’t like to admire the site from the middle of the lake?

Creative Platform in Austria Stunning Observation Spot Located Under The Water Level in Austria

Somehow the entire project reminds us of the surreal works of art, with people that have special abilities, without being limited of their own human condition. Basically, the Observation platform is an interesting way to get a different view upon the environment. It empowers you to explore the surface of the water, just like a surrealist character. Although it promotes the idea that you don’t get wet, you’ll have to pay attention when it rains because the level of the water raises and well, you will eventually feel the water “dancing” in your shoes!

Quieren cambiarle el nombre a la Ciudad de México

by Clemente

Una heladería bastante singular: Eyescream and friends

FEDRO Floor Rocker by Lorenza Bozzoli for DEDON

FEDRO Floor Rocker by Lorenza Bozzoli for DEDON

Who says a chair has to have legs? Even a rocker doesn’t need them thanks to two narrow skids that allow for rocking back and forth, right on the ground. The FEDRO Floor Rocker, by Lorenza Bozzoli for DEDON, sports the skids that make it rock while keeping it super lightweight, portable and stackable.

The Milanese Bozzoli brings her fashion and textile background to the design with its woven bands of colors that were inspired by the chair’s bird-like form. The chair is available in Flamingo, Colibri, and Quetzal, whose color schemes are based on Latin American tropical birds.

Yago Hortal’s Abstract Paintings

This week’s CMYLK  features Colourlovers palettes paired with abstract works by Yago Hortal. Hortal is a young artist who was born in Barcelona, studied in Seville, and currently lives and works in Berlin. His colors are vivid, verging on fluorescent, and the brushstrokes strong, with dynamic, hurled drips. Energetic, to say the least!

hola, si here, from the french by design blog. are you ready for a new “i could live here” house tour? since spring is taking its time to show up for many of us this year, i figured we could dose up on some vitamin d, so we’re heading to sunny uruguay for a unique house tour where concrete, neon and timeless style take the center stage.

uruguay-sfgirl-tami-christiansen2

andrea and marlo acquired this 19th century home in the small village of garzón, province of rocha, uruguay, and gave carte blanche to diego montero of studio m+ to remodel the space into a modern summer home. now, andrea and marlo can enjoy a light filled space, open to the outdoors, and sparingly furnished with timeless design pieces, punctuated with vibrant splashes of electric red. oh, oui, i could live here, for sure!
