Here's What Sterling Archer Thinks About Comic-Con

by Zeon Santos

Archer is a big fan of drinking, womanizing and doing “spy stuff”, pretty much exactly in that order.

However, Archer isn’t a fan of Comic-Con, and he has no problem telling poor Pam how stupid it is to go see panels and movie sneak peeks. In the process that mean drunk crushes Pam's dream of cosplaying as Immortan Joe...

(YouTube Link)

So why does the Duchess of the Danger Zone have such a problem with all the Comic-Con geekery? Who gives a crap, he's a cartoon! (Video contains NSFW-ish language)

In horrific photo, UFC 189's Rory MacDonald confirms broken nose and foot

by Mike Bohn
Rory MacDonald

Rory MacDonald

If you thought Robbie Lawler’s split lip was the most painful injury at UFC 189, just take a look at the champ’s handiwork against opponent Rory MacDonald.

MacDonald (18-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) confirmed he suffered a broken nose and broken foot in his fifth-round TKO loss to Lawler (26-10 MMA, 11-4 UFC) in the welterweight title fight, which served as the co-main event of Saturday’s pay-per-view card in Las Vegas.

The image of MacDonald in the octagon, covered in blood, was gruesome. His post-fight photo at the hospital with Lawler was further evidence of the damage sustained. And then there’s that truly disturbing GIF of him collapsing after the show.

One day later, the adrenaline has worn off, and all that remains is pain and disappointment.

MacDonald posted a photo of himself on Twitter less than 24 hours after he clashed with Lawler at UFC 189. “Red King” revealed the full extent of his injuries. Both of his eyes are swollen shut while scratches and bruises cover the rest of his face:

thank you @Ruthless_RL @ufc @Firas_Zahabi this was the best time of my life, ill never forget this fight pic.twitter.com/vKgWD6mp6e

— Rory MacDonald (@rory_macdonald) July 12, 2015

The 25-year-old may have fallen short in his first UFC title fight, but the memory of the matchup will live on. He went back-and-forth with Lawler in a “Fight of the Year” candidate and had several shining moments in the fight. He suffered the broken nose early on, though, and unfortunately could not resist crumbling to the canvas when a hard shot worsened the injury in the final round.

MacDonald fell to 0-2 against Lawler with a defeat, but added photo caption stating that he’ll “be back.”

The 10 Most Expensive Whiskeys in the World

by John Farrier

(Photo: Dalmore)

This is no rotgut! Four carefully selected stocks from Dalmore's reserves ranging from 1868 through 1939 were combined to form a select blend of some of the finest Scotch whisky in the world. And it had better be at $164,100 per bottle!

That's a lot, but it's not even close to the most expensive whiskey in the world. You can find more delicious-looking and extremely costly whiskeys at First We Feast.

‘Ferrell Takes the Field’ Teaser: Will Ferrell Plays Every Baseball Position in One Day

by Ethan Anderton

Ferrell Takes the Field teaser

Funnyman Will Ferrell has had plenty of fun blending sports and comedy with feature films like Semi-Pro, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Blades of Glory. He’s even dabbled in sports on television with a role in the comedy series Eastbound & Down. Now Ferrell is returning to HBO to mess around with America’s pastime.

You may remember hearing back in March that Will Ferrell was going to play Major League Baseball for ten teams, taking all ten positions, in a single day. Now that day will be chronicled in an HBO documentary special from Funny or Die called Ferrell Takes the Field, and the first teaser trailer has just arrived.

Watch the Ferrell Takes the Field teaser after the jump!

It’s just a brief glimpse into this record-breaking day that was done in partnership with Funny or Die, all to help support the fight against cancer. And this looks like it’s going to be thoroughly entertaining, maybe even getting people who aren’t the least interested in sports to pay attention to baseball for a little bit.

How did Will Ferrell pull off this miraculous sports stunt? Well, he took helicopter and van rides around the west coast and Arizona to play for the Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. It was made a little easier by the fact that each of these teams were playing one of the other ones, so Ferrell only had to stop at five games total. But still, this is pretty damn cool.

During various television appearances and press interviews, Ferrell was spouting off exactly the kind of great quotes you would expect such as, “I have the physique a lot of people dream about having. It’s my obligation to share it with the world,” and “Have you heard of a slurge? I threw that in Japan.” Well, now all I want to see is a documentary about Ferrell playing baseball in Japan.

If you want a rundown of what you can expect from Ferrell Takes the Field, check out the recap of Ferrell’s day over at MLB.com. Otherwise, you’ll be able to check out what promises to be a hilarious little HBO documentary special at the end of baseball season on September 12th at 10pm ET, only on HBO.

New SHERLOCK Promotional Image Teases This Year's Christmas Special

Due to the busy schedules of those involved with Sherlock (particularly stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, who portray Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, respectively), it's always a long wait between seasons. This year, we'll be treated to a special one-off episode set in Victorian-era London, seperate to the previous seasons, serving as a throwback to the time period whence Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle penned the original novels. This brand new image of Cumberbatch and Freeman was released ahead of Sherlock's 2015 San Diego Comic-Con panel, with the duo looking spick and span in 19th century attire. As of today, the video clip has been viewed over 14 million times. Now if that isn't a royal flush, we don't know what is.

3. ON HOW HE LIVES HIS LIFE

“I live a little bit on the seat of my pants, I try to be alert and available ... for life to happen to me. We’re in this life, and if you’re not available, the sort of ordinary time goes past and you didn’t live it. But if you’re available, life gets huge. You’re really living it.”

—  From an interview with Charlie Rose, via Flavorwire

18. ON SENTIMENTALITY

“Sentimentality to me is a symbol that we've left the planet. OK, bye-bye. Let me know when you come back because you're no longer here. You just left. It reminds of being at a funeral, like my dad dies and the grief is just overpowering. And all anyone can say to you is, ‘Well, he's probably up there in heaven, bowling with Uncle George.’ It's like, ‘Yeah, that's probably it. He's up there bowling with Uncle George.’ He's dead. He's gone. What am I going to do? Talk to ME. Don't make up your own dreamscape. Stay here with me, will you? Don't go away.”

Classify Your Annoying Co-Workers as Rappers

by Alex Santoso

Got annoying co-workers? Here's something fun you can do: classify them as rappers!

Sarah Cooper of The Cooper Review classified ten of the most annoying types of co-workers as represented by various rappers. For examples:

Someone who never leaves their cubicle is an Ice Cubicle:

Someone who volunteers for everything, then complains about all that work is a Kendrick Lamartyr:

Someone who's always looking at your screen is a Snoop Snoopy Dog:

Someone who's always sick is a Young Sneezy:

Someone who just can't wait is a Kant Wait West (though we have to pick a bone here with Ms. Cooper. Mr. West has infinite patience as he's now a professor):

A Home in a Cliff, Over the Sea, Under a Pool

by Miss Cellania
Corey

Pretty sick.

This home concept from Open Platform for Architecture is embedded in a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. The entire house, called Casa Brutale, was designed around the breathtaking view. It is almost flush with the ground- all you see is the pool and a descending staircase. The pool has a glass bottom, so it doubles as a skylight. The entire front is glass, so the sea can be viewed even from the loft bedroom.

After marveling at the stunning design, you have to wonder about the utilities -especially water and sewer. Where do you put your cars? Is there any storage space? What if someone else moved nearby? Would you ever let children in that pool? Who's going to wash the window? How hard would it be to throw someone over that little balcony? See lots more pictures of Casa Brutale at My Modern Met. -via mental_floss

Dark Horse Comics Bringing ‘Umbrella Academy’ and ‘Concrete’ to TV

by Russ Fischer

concrete

Dark Horse Comics and Universal Cable Productions (Mr. Robot, The Magicians) have made a deal to turn a bunch of Dark Horse titles into TV shows. One of the first developments is based on one of the very first Dark Horse Comics. That title is Concrete, created, written and drawn by Paul Chadwick, which tells a story that is basically “what if The Thing lived a non-superhero life?”

Other series in the lineup include Harrow County, Back Up, and The Umbrella Academy, the Gerard Way comic that was previously in development as a feature at Universal.

This deal between Dark Horse and UCP will encompass new material as well as “scripted programming from [Dark Horse’s] extensive comic book library.” Maybe we’ll get a series based on Matt Wagner’s Grendel eventually. Wouldn’t that be great?

For now, the four projects mentioned above are in development as shows. For me, Concrete, which was a critical success when originally published in the mid-’80s, but always sort of a niche book, seems like the most unusual and potentially significant. The lead character of Concrete is a regular guy whose mind is transferred by aliens in to a giant stone body. But that conceit is really where Concrete‘s “comic book” angle ends. The stories are really about trying to live a regular life despite his unusual form. Some of the Concrete stories are really excellent, and I’m excited to see how it becomes a TV series.

Here’s a list of the Dark Horse and UCP development slate.

Harrow County – Emmy has always known that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and the restless dead. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures and to the land itself in a way she never imagined, for she is the reincarnation of a powerful witch who was put to death on the very day Emmy was born. For this reason, the townsfolk mean to kill her too. In order to survive, Emmy must embrace the unusual powers at her command. This project is based on the brand new book written by Cullen Bunn (“The Damned,” “The Sixth Gun”) and illustrated by Tyler Crook (“Bad Blood”).

The Umbrella Academy – Nine years after parting ways, the estranged members of the Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers, must figure out how to work together to save the world. Created by Gerard Way (lead singer of “My Chemical Romance,” and writer of “The True Lies of the Fabulous Killjoys”) and Gabriel Ba (Daytripper); Bluegrass films is also attached to executive produce.

Back Up – In the near future, a new technology allows people to be backed up the same way we now back up our computers—but instead of protecting against drive failure, these backups protect against death. This project is based on a feature script by Tom Vaughn. Kenny Golde is set to write and executive produce, Brad Anderson (“Zoo”, “Almost Human”) is in negotiations to direct. Jim Wedaa is also attached to executive produce.

Concrete – After his subconscious is transplanted into a hulking stone body, Ronald Lithgow must come to terms with his new form and try to live a normal life. This Eisner award-winning title is the opus of comics legend Paul Chadwick.

Brian Henson Gets Another Shot at Dark Puppet Comedy ‘The Happytime Murders’

by Russ Fischer

The Happytime Murders

Brian Henson, son of the late Jim Henson, is getting another chance to make a darkly comic puppet noir called The Happytime Murders. The story, which is designed as something like an LA Confidential-type riff on The Muppets, or a Muppet equivalent of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, with a human and puppet detective team investigating the murders of former cast members of a kids’ TV show.

Now, after a few fallow years for the project, the relatively new studio STX Entertainment has just partnered with the Jim Henson Company to develop the story anew as a big-screen outing.

THR reports, suggesting that the title may end up being changed. Brian Henson is still attached to direct, and the latest script is by Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber, who wrote Red, and Red 2. (Prior drafts were from Todd Berger and Dee Robertson.)

This is the description of the 2012 version of the script, which may have changed somewhat now that there are new writers:

In a world where puppets co-exist with humans as second class citizens, puppet private eye and disgraced ex-cop, Phil Phillips, is hot on the trail of the serial killer who murdered his brother and is now targeting the cast members of the famous 80s television show, “The Happytime Gang.” As the killings continue, Phil’s former flame, Jenny, is next on the list. It’s up to Phil and his ex-partner, Detective Edwards, to find the culprit, but as bad blood and old resentments resurface the clues start pointing to the only viable suspect, Phil himself. Now he’s on the run with only his wits and hard headed determination, as he tries to solve The Happytime Murders.

One of the problems with making this film several years ago, when it was set up with Lionsgate, had to do with getting the human co-stars for the film. But that was before the success of projects that cross over between genres and traditional old and young audiences. Basically, it might be a lot easier to find people game for a film like this now, assuming the script is solid. Since work has been done on it since we last checked in, that stands now as one of the big questions for the film.

‘South Park’ Renewed for Three More Seasons, Extends Hulu Deal for All Episodes

by Ethan Anderton

South Park renewed

If the foul-mouthed antics of South Park haven’t gotten old for you after 18 years, then you’ll be happy to know that Comedy Central just solidified a deal for more craziness from the small Colorado mountain town.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have just struck a new deal with Comedy Central to have South Park renewed for three more seasons, each with 10 episodes. And the network’s deal with Hulu to stream all the episodes, new and old, has just been extended as well. Find out more about the South Park renewal after the jump!

This new deal will take the show through 2019, into its 23rd season, bringing the total of episodes of 304 when all is said and done. It will also take them into their 20th year of production on the show, and that’s pretty impressive for an animated series.

And for those who like to go back and watch the old episodes, or don’t have a cable subscription to keep up with the new seasons, Hulu has also extended their deal with Comedy Central for the entire library of 18 previous seasons as well as all the forthcoming new episodes yet to be aired.

Parker and Stone will continue to write, direct and edit every single episode of South Park, just as they have done since it began in 1997. The dynamic duo said in a statement:

“We love working for Doug and with everyone at Comedy Central. They’ve given us an insane level of artistic and creative freedom for almost 20 years. They walk the walk.”

In a recent interview on IGN’s Podcast Unlocked with Ryan McCaffrey, Parker and Stone also said that they don’t intend on quitting until they get canceled, though they do think about walking away from time to time:

Parker: “Every season, about three shows in, we say this should be the last season. Then we go away for a couple months and we’re like, ‘That was pretty good, let’s do it again.'”

Ryan McCaffrey: “Have you thought about what the last episode of South Park would be?”

Parker: “I think it’s gonna end with a fizzle for sure. We’re gonna go, ‘Fuck this, man’ and walk away.”

Stone: “Some sort of a whimper. Either drop the mic, get sued, get thrown off cable television…”

Parker: “We’ve thought that for 18 years, ‘They’re gonna cancel us for sure.’ We’re waiting to get canceled for 18 fucking years.

Stone: “We won’t stop until we get canceled. We’re renewing. They have to fucking cancel us, goddammit!”

South Park is certainly one of the more unique shows on TV, bridging the fast-paced creative environment of Saturday Night Live with the world of animation. Crafting every episode in just six days allows Parker and Stone to be far more topical and relevant than any other animated show on television, and their irreverent sense of humor has made it a comedy staple. It’s good to know South Park isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The 19th season of South Park premieres on September 16th.

@Midnight Renewed For Season 3

by Dan Wickline
Corey

Big fan.

ChrisHardwickComedy Central has renewed it’s late night internet-based comedy series @Midnight. The show, hosted by Chris Hardwick will have a 40-week run going through 2016. Hardwick, who also hosts the Talking Dead and will be hosting various panels at this weeks SDCC had this to say:

Comedy Central has been an amazing and supportive partner for @midnight and I cannot thank them enough. Making inappropriate jokes about Internet culture with my comedian friends is something I would do for the rest of my life if they’d let me. And this pick-up gives us the runway to tackle next year’s election, which I’m guessing will yield no shortage of social media gems.

The series uses a faux game show setting and pulls from the latest in pop culture, news and internet trends as fodder for a rotating trio of comedian guests. @Midnight reaches the youngest (viewer median age is 33) and most male (68%) audience of all late night programming.

Harry Shearer Characters Mr. Burns and Smithers on The Simpsons

A couple of months ago news broke which shocked the longtime fans of The Simpsons: Harry Shearer, the voice of many of the hit animated show's characters including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, Principle Skinner, and many others, would not be returning after 26 seasons on the job.

Back then we said it was really hard to believe Shearer was actually leaving and this wasn't just one of those disputes that would eventually be worked out. And as it turns out, much to the delight of said fans, that's exactly what was going on as it's now being reported that Shearer has officially signed on to return with the other voice actors. [...]
