The Six Best Steakhouses in New York City

by Nat

Let me preface this by saying that Peter Luger’s will not be on this list because it is located in Brooklyn.  And for the record Luger’s is slowly going down the chain.  I don’t know what’s going on over there but I’ve had 3 or 4 confirmations that their steak just isn’t as good as it used to be.  Perhaps the people who took the Luger’s model have in fact improved upon it.  Stick to Lugers on Long Island and you can’t go wrong. Rating a steakhouse is not an easy thing to do but I’ve been a serious steak eater for around 25 years now so I think I have a pretty good sense of these things. In this article I’m not going to focus on the ambiance, decor, or even service.  I’m taking about places where you can get a kick ass steak and know what it’s worth…

Benny Hill This!

by Miss Cellania
Corey

This is phenomenal.

For years, we’ve been using the Benny Hillifier to add “Yakety Sax” to a video, although it never was able to speed up the action as promised, and seems to have grown wonky with age. Now comes Benny Hill This! which speeds up any video you care to enter and adds the music. If you don’t have a video in mind to use, there are buttons to bring up examples. It’s amazing how much the mood of Rocky changes when the music is not so majestic. -via Metafilter

Dave Grohl To Battle Animal In A Drum-Off On The Muppets

This was fantastic.

John Mulaney moves on in a triumphant Comeback special

Before The Comeback Kid can get to the story of how a 10-year-old John Mulaney met the man who became the 42nd president of the United States, Mulaney touches on a few milestones that he passed since recording 2012’s New In Town. He got married, and discovered the confidence-boosting properties of the words “my wife.” The happy couple bought a French bulldog named Petunia, who encourages Mulaney in her native tongue at the top of the show, and is depicted in the comedian’s act-outs as a world-weary, chain-smoking Francophone. (How she can hold a cigarette is left unexplained, but it’s essential to the characterization.) The Mulaney of today is far removed from the hard-partying hell-raiser who’s hungover at work or exploding eggs by the dozen at varying points of The Comeback Kid, but he remains a sponge for experience. While he’s less likely to have an encounter with a stranger like the one that gave New In Town its title (though the Penn Station bit in The Comeback Kid gives that one a run for its money), “adult” life holds untold reserves of weirdness, like a friend’s toddler learning anatomical terms, or people who still parrot the “bananas insulting” idiom “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?” in 2015. And there’s still Mulaney’s own childhood to draw upon, too: The Clinton story and other family flashbacks make it seem like the comic is sitting on an entire one-man show about hard-ass über-dad Charles “Chip” Mulaney. “My parents didn’t trust us and they shouldn’t have trusted us,” he says, explaining the relationship between the Mulaney generations. “We were little goblins.”

Gorgeous Romanian Sisters Dubbed “the DR’s” are Blowing Up Instagram

by Nat

How often do you see three sisters that are this attractive?  Seriously.  I would say pretty much never.   How their Instagram account only has 4688 followers is a complete mystery to me.  I’m guessing it’s because not enough people have seen these three yet. From my limited knowledge they go by “the DR’s.”  And the limited information I have tells me that all three are fitness models and that all three are living in Austria.  The rest of my knowledge tells me that these three women are about to blow up the internet.  One of their names is Diana Retegan, so please remember that. As you’ll see from the pictures below, it’s kind of ridiculous how attractive they are.l Images via Instagram H/T to Izismile

Troubled Puppy Soothed by Hearing a Guitar for the First Time

by Lisa Marcus
Corey

Dool, try your guitar.

YouTube Link

According to her human Ahon Sarkar, Nyx the Bernese mountain puppy has been timid and anxious since being brought to her new home. In trying things to make it easier on the pup, Sarkar found a winning solution with his guitar. Nyx was having trouble falling asleep in her crate until Sarkar gave the pup her first experience hearing the sounds of soft guitar strumming. It wasn't long before the puppy's eyelids were drooping, then dropping into shut position. Sleep well, little cutie. Via Uproxx

You Can Pay for Parking Tickets with Canned Food

by John Farrier

(Photo: Charles Bertram/Lexington Herald-Leader)

If you get a parking ticket in Lexington, Kentucky, you can pay your fine in canned goods. This program, which runs from November 16-December 18, is called "Food for Fines." 10 cans of food pay for $15 in fines. The food is distributed to local food banks for people in need this winter. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports:

"Last year, citizens brought in over 6,200 cans of food as payment for over 600 meter citations," said Gary Means, LexPark executive director. "We hope by opening the program up to all types of citations, we'll see the numbers increase."

The parking authority suggests large cans — 14-15 ounces — of fruits, vegetables, proteins and peanut butter. No out-of-date, damaged or open canned goods will be accepted.

God's Pantry will use the food to stock shelves at its four Lexington locations.

UFC 193 winner Ben Nguyen ready for bonus and honeymoon – and Wikipedia page

by Steven Marrocco

Filed under: Featured Videos, News, UFC, Videos

MELBOURNE, Australia – After another impressive win, this time at UFC 193, Ben Nguyen is making a name for himself beyond the viral video that got him signed to the industry-leading promotion:

“I feel like I’ve been around for a while, and I’m starting to get that exposure to the mainstream public,” he told MMAjunkie. “I feel like part of it is being a black horse.”

In the curtain-jerker of Saturday’s massive pay-per-view card at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, Nguyen (15-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) stole prospect Ryan Benoit’s thunder, submitting him in the first round via rear-naked choke.

Benoit (8-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) had upset Sergio Pettis – little brother of ex-lightweight champ Anthony Pettis – in his previous outing. Nguyen, meanwhile, picked up his second straight stoppage after a debut knockout of Alptekin Ozkilic in May.

“It was just ridiculous how big that place was,” Nguyen said of the 70,000-capacity Etihad Stadium. “I’ve never been inside a stadium that big even. It was crazy.”

Maybe now Nguyen can graduate from minor Internet sensation to legitimate flyweight contender, complete with his own Wikipedia page.

One month prior to his fight, he got married, so a little extra cash in the form of a fight-night bonus could come in handy for his honeymoon.

“One-hundred percent, we’re going on a plane as soon as we get that bonus,” he said.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get it. But maybe he’ll finally be Wiki-ready.

Watch the above video to get Nguyen’s thoughts on the fight and his future.

Newswire: Missy Elliott releases her first music video in almost eight years

by Danette Chavez
Corey

And it is good.

Missy Elliott teased her return to music (it’s been three years since her last single) with a performance at this year’s Super Bowl that upstaged everyone but Left Shark. Then in October, she gave listeners a taste of her new single, “WTF (Where They From).” Elliott has now released the full song and video, which features longtime friend Pharrell Williams. The song has a throwback vibe and features Elliott’s signature bawdy lyrics. The video, posted below, sees her dance in stunning outfits alongside a chorus line of women in Biggie hats, as well as the usual gaggle of coordinated kids. There are even marionette versions of the two rappers. There’s currently no word on when we can expect Elliott’s new album, but she is collaborating with Williams on it.

Comedy Special Review: John Mulaney moves on in a triumphant Comeback special

by Erik Adams

You can tell why two broadcast networks and no less an esteemed comedy maven as Lorne Michaels thought John Mulaney should be a TV star. The stand-up comedian is great on camera, as he repeatedly demonstrates in his new hour-long special, The Comeback Kid. His delivery has a disarming physicality, whether he’s emphasizing a point by talking with his hands or shimmying his shoulders to illustrate a real estate agent’s “fun mom” energy. It’s a gestural style that’s visible from the very last rows of the Chicago Theater—the site of The Comeback Kid’s taping—but one that translates naturally to Netflix. He’s onstage at a storied venue, whose walls have been marked by Kanye West, Prince, and Sammy Davis Jr. (as seen in The Comeback Kid’s backstage cold open), but there’s an intimacy to the way he relates an anecdote. Things Get a Bit Weird When Nathan Fielder Interviews the Cast of ‘The Night Before’

by Ethan Anderton

Nathan Fielder Interview

If for some reason you haven’t acquainted yourself with comedic genius Nathan Fielder and his Comedy Central program Nathan for You, you’re missing out on some of the most brilliant comedy that has been done in the past decade. But even if you don’t think you’ve experienced what Nathan Fielder has to offer, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of his exploits such as Dumb Starbucks or the viral video of a pig rescuing a goat from drowning.

Starting next week, you’ll be able to see Fielder in a supporting role in the R-rated holiday comedy The Night Before, and to help hype the film, the comedian sat down for an awkward interview with the film’s three main stars: Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie. And things get pretty weird.

Here’s Nathan Fielder interviewing The Night Before cast (via Comedy Central):

Fielder doesn’t waste any time digging into the awkwardness by asking everyone about their sex life and following it up with questions about why his scenes in the movie were cut down significantly. Of course, it’s all done in the name of comedy, and everyone does a fine job of going along with the joke.

However, there’s a part of me that wishes this interview was done on some kind of local news station and went viral in that way as opposed to being sanctioned by Comedy Central. Knowing that everyone is in on the joke kind of takes away from the hilarity of it all. But at the same time, Fielder is so great at being earnest and genuine that it still brings plenty of laughs.

Watching Nathan for You, it’s easy to see that Fielder is pulling off some Andy Kaufman-level brilliance in comedy here, doing something that no one else has attempted before. Therefore, I’m interested to see what he does as a supporting actor in a movie like The Night Before, opening on November 20th next week. Watch the recent red band trailer right here.

Bill Nye Is Photoshopped Into The Ultimate Science Badass

by Zeon Santos

Bill Nye is undoubtedly the science guy, and he'll forever be known for his scientifically stupendous TV show that introduced many young minds to the might of science, but he's not really known for being a badass.

I mean that in the very best way possible, of course, because he's a man of science and truly has no need to go around blowing up cars or punching people into submission like a stereotypical badass.

But Redditor Chipper_chap wanted to see how badass Bill Nye could become with a little help from Photoshop, so he started a PsBattle by posting the pic above entitled "Perplexed Bill Nye".

Soon that hard bitten science man was walking down all kinds of dark roads, setting science aside long enough to star in far bloodier TV shows and record a gangsta rap album.

Where You’ve Been

by Miss Cellania

Well, this is kind of fun. The Visited States Map Generator is an application to record what states you’ve been to, color-coded to indicate how much time you’ve spent there. Canada is included, but I’ve never been there. The color coding is an indication of how familiar you are with each state.

Red means I've just passed through, maybe seen a thing or two.

Amber means I've at least slept there and seen a few things. I have a first-hand idea of what the state is like.

Blue means I've spent a good amount of time in that state.

Green means I've spent a lot of time in that state, weeks at at time on multiple visits—or lived there.

You can also use the map to generate a particular trip, places you’d like to go, or just make a map with pretty colors. The map pictured shows you where I’ve been, at least in the U.S. I reserved green only for places I've lived. Flyovers don’t count, in my opinion, but you do your map however you want. -via Fred Bradbury

‘Triple 9′ Trailer: A Star-Studded Cast Sends a Heist Careening Off the Rails

by Angie Han

Triple 9 trailer

A great cast doesn’t guarantee a great movie (just look at Black Mass), but it certainly never hurts. And John Hillcoat‘s Triple 9 has got a fantastic one. The director of Lawless and The Road has brought together Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Anthony MackieAaron Paul, Clifton Collins Jr., Norman Reedus, and Gal Gadot for his new crime drama, about an impossible heist gone very, very badly awry. Watch the latest Triple 9 trailer after the jump.

Entertainment One served up the new Triple 9 trailer.

Winslet might not be the first name that comes to mind for the role of a Russian mob boss, but Hillcoat and his casting directors deserve high fives for that inspired bit of casting. The Oscar winner looks like she’s having great fun in a role that renders her almost unrecognizable.

Incredible cast aside, the latest Triple 9 trailer boasts a great sense of desperate energy, and a bleak story that keeps twisting and turning. Hillcoat isn’t afraid of getting dark and dirty, as we’ve seen in films like Lawless and The Road. Hopefully Triple 9 will make the most of his talents and interests.

Triple 9 opens February 19, 2016 in the U.S. and U.K. Here’s the synopsis from UK distributor Entertainment One:

When a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist, they realise the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. The chaos that ensues when a police officer is shot in the line of duty is just the diversion they’ll need to do the job, but whether they have the will to kill one of their own is an entirely different matter. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
