Check Out 5’5 Guard Melvin Lee Dunk Over Two Guys in High School Game

by Nat

Just when you think slam dunking couldn’t get any better after watching this year’s ridiculous dunk contest, tiny Melvin Lee brings back memories of Nate Robinson wowing fans with his dunk climbing over Dwight Howard. Only with Melvin there’s a little something different. Melvin is shorter than Nate Robinson. He’s only 5’5. And Melvin is also in high school. Oh and Melvin’s dunk came in a game. Yes, a game. Lee, a junior who reportedly has yet to receive major college attention, should be on everybody’s radar now, after this video surfaced over the weekend of him dunking on two much larger defenders in a recent game. In a few years, it’s not hard to imagine Lee joining Nate Robinson, Spud Webb and Muggsy Bogues as little guys who made a big impact in the dunk contest. What he lacks in height the explosive guard at Riverside University High School…

Newswire: “Weird Al” announces new batch of dates for his Mandatory World Tour

by Sam Barsanti
Corey

I'm going in September if anyone wants in.

Last year, audiences all over the world were thrilled by “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Mandatory World Tour, thanks to Yankovic’s delightful parody tunes and the fact that everyone in attendance was required by law to enjoy the show. Unfortunately, Yankovic has noticed that some people out there failed to recognize that attendance for the Mandatory World Tour was—hence the name—mandatory, so Yankovic is giving all of the scofflaws out there one more chance to straighten up by adding a ton of new tour dates. At this point, it’s not clear what will happen to people who still refuse to see one of these shows, but there’s a very good chance that they’ll be spending the rest of their lives in one of Yankovic’s comedy gulags.

In other “Weird Al” news, the new Comedy Bang Bang bandleader/co-host will soon be getting a career-spanning ...

Newswire: For a brief, shining moment, Stephen Colbert was in the Violent Femmes

by Danette Chavez

The Violent Femmes are set to release We Can Do Anything, their first full-length album in 15 years, on March 4. The album comprises songs that had languished in frontman Gordon Gano’s “trove of old cassette demos and journals,” as well as new songs co-written by Sam Hollander, Dave Katz, and Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin. Their stumping for We Can Do Anything included a recent visit to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where they performed “Memory,” one of the latest additions to their oeuvre. They also invited host Stephen Colbert to join them on “Blister In The Sun,” though the video of that performance was only released after the show had wrapped. You can watch Colbert chiming in on the final string of “Let me go on’s” and “Big hands, I know you’re the one’s” (his Gano impression is rather spot-on) in the ...

Great Job, Internet!: Remembering Mitch Hedberg on what would have been his 48th birthday

by Marah Eakin

Mitch Hedberg would be 48 today, but, unfortunately, not all of his fans can get up to Minnesota to leave a donut and a receipt on his grave. There are plenty of ways to remember him online, however, from a short documentary Hedberg’s wife made about the late comedian’s writing process to an excellent piece Vice ran last year asking comedians like Marc Maron, Chris Cubas, Hannibal Buress, and Emily Heller to chat about Hedberg’s lasting influence.

For those looking to hear Hedberg’s thoughts straight from the horse’s mouth, there’s an interview The A.V. Club ran with the comedian himself back in 2004. In the chat, conducted by Noel Murray, Hedberg talks about his road dog touring schedule, his ramshackle cabin in California, and his love for acts like the aforementioned Maron and Triumph The Insult Comic Dog. He also expounds on his ...

Newswire: Someone other than Kevin Smith wants to see a Jay and Silent Bob game get made

by Dennis Lee

The developers over at Interabang Entertainment have launched a Fig crowdfunding campaign to raise $400,000 for a new Jay and Silent Bob video game, appropriately named Jay And Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch. It’s a side-scrolling beat-’em-up in the vein of the arcade version of X-Men or Streets of Rage. You play Jay or Silent Bob, teaming to beat up a bunch of bad dudes in order to save their pot customers who are trapped in, you guessed it, a mall.

Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith will provide voiceover talent and serve as creative consultants for the pre-production process. It’s not all a whirling dervish of fists and roundhouse kicks; part of the combat system involves a barrage of insults and flattery in order to avoid boss battles altogether. You can play single player, but if you play with two, you can execute some devastating tag-team ...

Great Job, Internet!: Run The Jewels just released a live show filmed in 360°

by Corbin Reiff

Over the past three years, Run The Jewels have burnished their reputation as one of the fieriest live acts going. Their set at the Pitchfork Music Festival last year, for instance, was absolutely bonkers. For those who haven’t had the opportunity to catch Killer Mike and El-P do the damn thing live and in person, the duo have shared a special live show presented entirely in 360 degrees.

Filmed in the Boiler Room of London’s famed punk-rock hotbed the 100 Club, the video finds Run The Jewels sweating it out for an insane 55-minute set comprising mostly material off of their eponymous debut and sophomore records. With nary an angle missed, it’s an interesting and innovative way to catch a filmed performance.

Newswire: Muppet-esque human Jack White to give love advice to Kermit The Frog

by William Hughes

Floppy-haired human caricature Jack White is set to blend in with the rest of the cast on next Tuesday’s season finale of The Muppets, according to the Facebook page for White’s label, Third Man Records. The White Stripes rocker has apparently been tapped to give Kermit The Frog some advice in regards to his often fractious relationship with Miss Piggy, providing the sage romantic wisdom—like “start a band, get divorced, and then spend several years pretending she’s your sister”—that he’s become known for over the years.

Of course, White is just the latest in a long line of musical superstars to trade quips with felt; he’s preceded by Dave Grohl, Willie Nelson (also appearing on an episode this Tuesday) and Josh Groban, who we all remember from that time he and Miss Piggy had sex, no matter how hard we try to forget ...

There’s an actual Full House porn parody now, God help us all

According to a press release, Full Holes stars porn luminaries like Allie Haze, Michael Vegas, and Kassondra Raine as various members of the Tanner clan, though the names have been “sexily” modified. Haze, for instance, plays “BJ,” while Raine plays “Muffchelle.” Other not-so-cleverly-named characters include Stuffme, Handy Tanner, Jizzy, Blowey, Kimmy Gobbler, and Fucky Donaldson. A group of Hawaiian-shirted dudes called the Bi-yotch Boys even make an appearance to sing “Strokamo,” though in this case the song features lines about getting covered in “love juice” instead of indulging in whatever Monserrat mystique is.

Diaz and McGregor bring out PED accusations, balloon animals at press conference

by Brent Brookhouse

Filed under: Featured, Featured Videos, News, UFC, Videos

TORRANCE, Calif. – It’s no surprise that the press conference featuring Conor McGregor and newly minted UFC 196 opponent Nate Diaz got a little heated; exactly how heated was the question. Things didn’t get physical, but both men made some big statements along the way.

Featherweight champion McGregor was set to face lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the featured bout of the event, which takes place March 5 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and airs on pay-per-view. A foot injury forced dos Anjos out of the bout and opened the door for Diaz to step in and face McGregor in what is now a welterweight fight.

The UFC wasted little time between Tuesday night’s announcement of the bout and setting up a press conference. The YouTube stream of the event peaked with more than 222,000 viewers clicking in to see the two men trade verbal shots.

“I don’t give a [expletive],” Diaz said. “I try to fight everybody all the time, anyway. It’s all good.”

McGregor responded by claiming that when Jose Aldo pulled out of their bout at UFC 189, he wanted to fight Diaz but instead accepted an interim title bout with Chad Mendes.

“I felt pity on your broke ass,” McGregor said. “I wanted to make you rich at 189, but they gave me Mendes.”

“They gave me a [expletive] load of money,” Diaz replied. “And you know what I said? I said, ‘I want more of that [expletive].’”

With the fight taking place at welterweight, 25 pounds up from McGregor’s previous bouts in the UFC, the two also disagreed on if Diaz had been willing to take the fight at lightweight. While Diaz said he initially accepted it, McGregor said he wouldn’t, so his team gave Diaz 170 pounds.

That was when McGregor took the shot that set things off.

“I honestly like Nick’s little brother,” McGregor said, referring to Diaz’s brother Nate. “How can you not like him? He’s like a little cholo from the hood. But at the same time, he coaches kid’s jiu-jitsu on a Sunday morning and goes on bike rides with the elderly. He makes gang signs with the right hand and balloon animals with the left hand. You’re a credit to the community.”

“[Expletive] you,” Diaz replied. “[Expletive] your belt. I don’t give a [expletive] what you say, [expletive]. [Expletive] your [expletive] ass belt, too.”

McGregor seemed most affected when Diaz lobbed steroid accusations his way – and, honestly, at anyone else in the UFC.

“Everybody’s on steroids,” Diaz said, responding to a question about an earlier statement he made saying McGregor used performance-enhancing drugs. “The whole UFC, everybody.”

“Your teammates [Gilbert Melendez] and [Jake Shields] were two caught on steroids,” McGregor pointed out. “Not me.”

“And you, and dos Anjos, and Pettis, and everybody,” Diaz said.

McGregor stood up at the accusation and began to yell at the Stockton native.

“Not me,” McGregor said. “I’m not on no steroids. What the [expletive] are you talking about? Your two teammates were on steroids. Your two boys. Remember that? What happened to them? Did you know they were taking that stuff? Did you?”

“You’re on steroids,” Diaz said.

“Sure I am,” McGregor replied. “I’m just an animal.”

by David Nield on Field Guide, shared by Adam Clark Estes to io9

Gmail was practically founded on the principle of never having to delete an email again. But the service has been kicking around since 2004, and all of those old newsletters, chain emails, and special deals aren’t doing much except counting against your Google account’s 15 GB storage capacity . Fortunately, a quick search is all it takes to identify messages worth deleting.

Exclusive: Jean-Claude Van Damme to Lead His Own Action Comedy Series at Amazon

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

In.

Jean-Claude Van Damme Amazon Series

After making a few decent action flicks, and a slew of really bad ones, Jean-Claude Van Damme didn’t have any problem poking fun at himself while getting surprisingly introspective in the 2008 Belgian crime drama JCVD. And now he’s going to do it again, but this time for an action comedy series called Jean-Claude Van Johnson at Amazon, one that gives a very good reason as to why he made something as terrible as Street Fighter. Find out more about the Jean-Claude Van Damme Amazon series below.

As of now Jean-Claude Van Johnson is only set up as a pilot at Amazon, but looking at the talent involved in this project, this just has to get off the ground as a full-fledged series. But before we get to the roster behind the scenes, here’s the synopsis of the show:

Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to put on once again the mantle of his alter-ego, undercover private contractor Jean-Claude Johnson. “Johnson’s” cover as the lead role in a re-imagined action film version of “Huckleberry Finn” lands him right back in the midst of the danger he secretly always craves–but most importantly, back in the orbit of Vanessa, his fellow operative and the woman he loves.

In the show, Jean-Claude Van Damme is just the persona that Jean-Claude Van Johnson puts on in order to do dangerous private contractor work. Projects like Double Team with Dennis Rodman and the awful Street Fighter movie were only done to provide cover for Van Johnson’s secret operations. But now, not unlike Van Damme, Van Johnson finds himself out of his prime. He can’t do the splits to avoid getting hit with a metal pipe, he’s depressed by the family photos in the holiday cards he gets sent by Dolph Lundgren, and he’s just not the man he used to be.

This is a project that features Van Damme poking fun at himself on a level far above JCVD, cocky about his career, both in film and private contracting. It exists in a world where there are plenty more covert operatives working undercover as actors, such as David Schwimmer (who isn’t necessarily confirmed to be part of the cast just yet) as Van Johnson’s rival, working for the same organization. The script from 2014 by The Expendables writer Dave Callaham is hilarious in its mocking of the entertainment industry while delivering plenty of action as well.

Adding to the promising nature of this project is the fact that it’s being executive produced by Ridley Scott and The Good Wife and The Man in the High Castle executive producer David W. Zucker. But sealing the deal is Key & Peele director Peter Atencio being at the helm of the series. The director has crafted some of the best sketches parodying genre films that television has ever seen, and if his work in the trailer for Keanu is any indicator, he’s the perfect man for this job.

As we said, Jean-Claude Van Johnson only has a pilot order at Amazon for now, but if all goes well, hopefully it will become a full series. Production is expected to start in May in Los Angeles. Stay tuned for more.

POTD: A Slime-Filled Twinkie Is the Other ‘Ghostbusters’ Promotion You’ve Been Waiting For

by Ethan Anderton

Ghostbusters Twinkie

There was a time when Hostess snacks disappeared for awhile, and fans of the unhealthy cream-filled cake known as the Twinkie weren’t sure if they would ever see them on shelves again. Thankfully the snack that will likely survive the apocalypse has been back for awhile, clogging our arteries and giving us diabetes for years to come. And along with the recently confirmed return of Ecto Cooler, the snack cake will be getting an all too appropriate Ghostbusters-themed makeover that includes slime green filling.

Get a glimpse at the Ghostbusters Twinkie after the jump.

This image appeared on the ENM Sales & Services Twitter feed (via Nerdist):

ENM Sales & Services helps to inform retailers and wholesalers of the opportunities for expanding their product lines to capture the customer, so it’s no surprise that they would get a heads up on this forthcoming promotion that will be tied in to the release of Ghostbusters this summer. Notice that the box has the same “Ghostbusters: Only In Theaters” promotion that the new can of Ecto Cooler had.

As you can see, this Twinkie isn’t your average Twinkie. It’s not one that measures 35 feet long or weighs 600 pounds (that’s a big Twinkie), but it does come with key lime flavored green slime filling. It’s a shame that Slimer can’t be used to help push this special Twinkie though. But then again, having Slimer on the box of a snack cake filled with slime could also come with certain implications that we’re not ready to deal with yet.

Ghostbusters arrives on July 15 and the special Twinkie will arrive sometime before then.

2016 Best Picture Nominees Honest Trailer: Pedophiles, Even-Tempered Max & No Black People

by Ethan Anderton

2016 Best Picture Nominees

This weekend brings Hollywood’s biggest night of self-congratulations and pats on the back with the 88th Academy Awards. The ceremony will air Sunday night, bringing in a who’s who of the biggest names working in film (though some may not be there). There will be far more losers than winners, but as everyone says, it’s an honor just to be nominated.

Of course, this year, the nominees may feel a little awkward when you consider the uproar that followed the announcement of this year’s nominations, again ignoring plenty of work from actors, actresses, directors, etc. of color. And now the 2016 Best Picture Nominees Honest Trailer pokes fun at the movies that made the cut this year, and they pile on the lack of diversity, as well as briefly mocking each of the films vying for the big prize.

Here’s the 2016 Best Picture Nominees Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies:

While we’re being honest, I must say that this formula works better when simply applied to a singular movie. There’s just not enough time to skewer eight movies in a few minutes and do it properly. After all, this Honest Trailer even points out that they don’t have enough footage to properly do an Honest Trailer for The Revenant and they plan on doing that later. They’re just not going to waste their best jokes on this brief Best Picture nominee mockery. It’s an amusing enough lambaste of the nominees for the time being, but we look forward to each of these movies getting blasted individually instead.

The 50 Egg Roll Challenge

by Zeon Santos
Corey

Sigma Nu!

Certain cylindrical foods are a big hit with the competitive eating crowd because they're easy to chomp down by the dozen, but I can't recall ever seeing an eating contest involving egg rolls.

On one hand they seem like they'd be fairly easy to eat, and tasty enough to keep the eater going, but the fact that they're deep fried makes them seem like a heart attack inducing choice for an eating challenge.

Well, nobody has ever accused "Megatoad" Matt Stonie of being a health nut!

These Comics Prove Cooking Is Basically Impossible

by Zeon Santos
Corey

First one.

(Comic Via PoorlyDrawnLines)

A good cook will often take their culinary skills for granted, because they most likely learned to cook when they were young and can't remember what it's like to feel lost in the kitchen.

On the other hand, those who seriously can't cook see the skill as some kind of high level wizardry, and when they try to do anything more than boil a pot of water the skill of cooking seems impossible.

(Comic Via OwlTurd)

But if they can figure out which ingredients taste good together, and the amount of time and temperature needed to safely cook it all, you may one day manage to make a decent meal!

Just remember this- it's all about the ingredients, so choose wisely...

LOL: ‘Deadpool’ Responds to ‘Saturday Night Live’ Petition by Spoofing Kanye West Rant

by Ethan Anderton

Deadpool Hosting SNL

Earlier this week, thousands of fans signed a petition directed at Saturday Night Live creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels to have him bring in Ryan Reynolds to host the late night sketch show. However, these fans didn’t want Reynolds to host the show as himself as is customary for celebrities to do. Instead, they wanted Reynolds to host SNL as Deadpool, the box office topping, fourth wall breaking, smart ass mercenary.

Even though Lorne Michaels hasn’t responded to this petition, and he probably never will, Ryan Reynolds took the time to craft a response to this request by Deadpool fans. But he did it in exactly the kind of way that Deadpool would: by spoofing the timely leak of yet another rant that Kanye West went on backstage at Saturday Night Live when he was a musical guest last weekend.

Here’s the leaked audio of the rant from when we almost saw Deadpool hosting SNL in the 90s:

As we mentioned, this riff from Reynolds as Deadpool is making fun of a recent rant that Kanye West went on. Apparently some changes were made to his stage set-up very shortly before he was going to perform on the live broadcast of the show, and he was not happy at all. And thus, he went on a rant talking about how influential he is, slamming Taylor Swift (hence the Rip Taylor joke) and more. You can hear West’s original rant over here if you’re curious.

Does this kind of response potentially mean that Deadpool hosting Saturday Night Live may be a possibility? Probably not. Even though SNL has been hosted by fictional characters before, including Paul Reubens as Pee Wee Herman and Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci, the character of Deadpool still poses some logistical problems. Talking through that mask would be pretty difficult, and Deadpool is a very raunchy character, which doesn’t work well on broadcast TV, even in a more forgiving late night slot. So while it would be fun, it’s not likely to happen.

However, that doesn’t mean Ryan Reynolds can’t come back and host as himself, making it likely that Deadpool would appear in a sketch or two throughout the night. Plus, if Reynolds comes back and hosts, there’s a better chance of mocking his other poor decisions like Green Lantern.

As of now, the next episode of Saturday Night Live will be hosted by Jonah Hill on March 5th, which means by the time Ryan Reynolds would host SNL, the buzz on Deadpool will have died down considerably. But Reynolds is the kind of star who could really host at anytime and still make it a fun episode. If SNL makes any decisions about this possibility, we’ll be sure to let you know.
