Settle Down Beavis, and Come to Butt-Head: The Iconic '90s Animated Series Is Making a Return

by Cheryl Eddy

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Mike Judge’s head-banging, couch-dwelling masters of snark, but the animated teens of Beavis and Butt-Head—one of MTV’s biggest hits of the 1990s that spawned a 1996 feature film which was also a huge hit—are returning to the airwaves thanks to Comedy Central.

Enola Holmes: Netflix Debuts Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock's Sister

by Neeraj Chand

New images have debuted showing Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown as the titular Enola Holmes from the upcoming Netflix movie. Based on the series of novels of the same name by Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes follows the exploits of master detective Sherlock Holmes' younger sister, who has inherited the family's gift for solving mysteries.

Apart from showcasing the actress in her new look as the youngest Holmes sibling, the photos, which were shared on social media by Netflix, also feature Henry Cavill as the movie's version of Sherlock Holmes and Sam Claflin in the role of older brother Mycroft. Helena Bonham Carter will be seen as the family matriarch, Mrs. Holmes. "The game is afoot!" Netflix wrote.

RELATED: Henry Cavill Explains the Responsibility of Playing Superman

The details that have been released thus far suggest that the story will follow Enola on a hunt for her missing mother. Instead of aiding her in her search, her older brothers will send the youngest Holmes to a finishing school for young ladies. Enola will have to struggle to carry on with her search with the aid of a few allies, in the process stumbling into a conspiracy that could alter the course of history.

Although Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters, Sherlock Holmes and his brother Mycroft, are traditionally shown to be heroic figures tasked with solving criminal mysteries and foiling evil conspiracies, Springer's Enola Holmes novels position the two as minor antagonists who try to stop their young sister in her pursuits, forcing her to attend finishing school instead.

The movie has already run into some trouble with the Doyle estate, the original creator of Sherlock Holmes, which has filed a lawsuit against Netflix with regard to Enola Holmes. Although all the stories featuring the brilliant detective that were published before 1923 have since passed into the public domain, the lawsuit alleges that Enola Holmes infringes on the last 10 books from Doyle.

Despite the controversy surrounding the lawsuit, Netflix is moving ahead with its promotions for the upcoming movie, putting the project's most well-known stars, Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill, front and center of the promotion material. The Legendary Entertainment film wrapped filming in September 2019 and is produced by the studio's Mary Parent, Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes, along with Brown and her mother Paige Brown.

Cobra Kai: Netflix Lands Season 3; Future Karate Kid Series Possible

by Ray Flook

Late last month brought word that Jon HurwitzJosh Heald, and HaydenSchlossberg's Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai was looking for a new home, and now we know where that home is going to be. Netflix has secured the rights to the third season of the series, making it a streaming service Original. The deal would include exclusive rights to the third season and future seasons, and non-exclusive access to the first two seasons to be able to offer series catch-up options. The first two seasons will be available on Netflix later this year, followed by the new season. Reportedly, it was the streaming service's "financial commitment, massive subscriber base, global reach and passion for the material" that secured the deal. Netflix and Sony TV are also looking to possibly expand the franchise with future Karate Kid-based projects.

Cobra Kai
Cobra Kai is reportedly leaving for another streaming service, courtesy of YouTube.

Considering the cliffhangers viewers were left with at the end of the second season, viewers are definitely looking for answers. Ralph Macchio's Daniel is packing his bags and heading to Okinawa, Japan, to find a bit of that "Miyagi mojo" as well as learn the origins of both Miyagi-Do Karate and Cobra Kai. Then there's the matter of whether Karate Kid actress Elizabeth Shue (The Boys) would (finally) make an appearance, how Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) will end up after his accident in the finale, and if Johnny (William Zabka) can get his dojo back from his father (Martin Kove).

Deadline Hollywood reported exclusively in May that YouTube was ready to release the series to another streaming service once Sony Pictures TV has secured a new home for the series. Reportedly, the number of potential contenders had been narrowed down to Netflix and Hulu. With the television landscape still reeling from the coronavirus pandemic leading to a lack of scripted programming, a series like Cobra Kai that comes with a full season and a large viewership is a streaming dream for services right now. While YouTube was committed to airing the third season, Sony TV was looking for a service that could offer the series a future beyond that as well as expand the Karate Kid universe.

Why Hasn't Jimmy Kimmel Addressed His Own Blackface History Yet?

by Tom Chang
Corey

Was wondering this the other day.

I would like to congratulate Jimmy Kimmel as a Hollywood success story. He's come a long way from his Comedy Central days on The Man Show and Win Ben Stein's Money. He also entertained millions as the comic relief for Fox NFL Sunday. Now not only does he have a late-night show called Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but he's also returning to host the next Prime Time Emmy Awards. This will be his third stint and he'll also be executive producing. Now let's address the 800 lb gorilla in the room.

In light of the events surrounding the death of George Floyd and the subsequent protests fronted by Black Lives Matter sparked all over the country and expanded across the globe, many across the entertainment industry made dramatic changes at a cultural level addressing systemic racism not only in law enforcement and canceling police reality series like Cops but also removing Confederate monuments and banning any related paraphernalia. The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was confronted about a 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch where he portrayed former cast member Chris Rock in blackface. Fallon profusely apologized for his involvement. Now it's Kimmel's turn.

Jimmy Kimmel

During Kimmel's stint as co-host of The Man Show, one recurring segment had him parodying NBA player Karl Malone while donning blackface. Kimmel has been fortunate enough to avoid talking about it long after the series ended. Why hasn't this garnered similar attention that Fallon's SNL sketch did? In 2019, comedian Nick Cannon spoke to USA Today about the aforementioned sketches and included Sarah Silverman, who also performed in blackface for her comedy series The Sarah Silverman Program. He posted on Instagram to call them out publicly. Silverman apologized in an interview with GQ.

Fallon and Kimmel didn't respond to USA Today's request to comment. "You know I'm always on the side of the comedian and never pander to the sensitive, but I feel there needs to be some 'truth & reconciliation' discussions and teachable moments amongst our communities," Cannon wrote. Since Fallon and Silverman apologized for their part, now it's Kimmel's turn and he has an obligation to address what he did. The irony is the Utah Jazz legend appeared on his show and not once were the skits addressed.

Sorry To Bother You is the Movie of Our Time

by Andy Wilson
Corey

Very weird but I liked it.

Boots Riley's 2018 directorial debut Sorry To Bother You, a surreal comedy-drama about a call-center operator named Cassius Green (Lakeith Stanfield), doesn't seem like it should be anything more than your typical indie film. And yet, with its revolutionary message, couched in surrealism and racial, class, and gender politics, somehow it manages to catch the zeitgeist of the late 2010s and 2020 perhaps better than any other film.

Sorry To Bother You is the Movie of Our Time
Poster for Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You. Pictured: Lakeith Stanfield as Cassius Green.

In the film, Cassius (aka "Cash"– get it? Cash is Green?) gets a job at a telemarketing firm. Four months behind on his rent, and with his uncle/landlord (Terry Crews) about to lose the house, he'll need a miracle to dig his way out, despite the support of his girlfriend Detroit (Tessa Thompson).

But a miracle he does find when his cubicle neighbor (Danny Glover) gives him a key piece of advice: "Use your white voice." Suddenly, Cassius starts channeling the voice of David Cross on the phone and is selling left and right. This attracts the notice of management, who start eyeing him for a promotion to the fabled upstairs "Power Callers."

Unfortunately, Cash's co-workers aren't seeing the same success, and under the lead of Squeeze (Steven Yuen), they start striking to form a union for better wages and benefits. Meanwhile, Detroit is pursuing her art by day but also joining up with a revolutionary protest group The Left Eyes by night. Their target is the parent company of both the call center and multiple other companies around the Bay Area owned by tech billionaire Steve Lift (Armie Hammer). Lift's newest venture seems to be attracting desperate workers, signing them to lifetime contracts in return for food and housing. It's very clearly slave labor, but no one is willing to call it that.

The Satire is Not Far From the Truth

This surreal dystopia in Sorry To Bother You is, unfortunately, not too far off from the real problems facing so many areas in America today, but very specifically the Bay Area and Oakland where the film is set. The film crosses geographic and temporal space with several other films with similar themes, like Blindspotting and The Last Black Man in San Francisco. There's also a bit of crossover with Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale Station and Black Panther. Still, the latter is mostly due to Coogler being able to shoehorn his hometown into his MCU masterpiece properly.

While Lakeith Stansfield deserves top billing here for his spectacular work in this movie (and David Cross as his eerily creepy "white voice"), the best performance here is from Tessa Thompson. She is always a delight, but especially so in this film because she and her character are one. There is no space between performer and performance. It is just that seamless.

Sorry To Bother You is the Movie of Our Time
Tessa Thompson as Detroit in Sorry to Bother You an Annapurna Pictures release and one of many sets of her provocative earrings.

And Detroit's uncompromising nature gives us a perfect foil to Cash as he goes down the path of selling out. And while Cash worries about what happens when the sun blows up and what's left, what legacy we've left, Detroit calmly keeps making her art and marching to her own beat. And best of all, she didn't need yuppie bourgie Cash with his chic apartment and Maserati; she liked him just fine living in his uncle's garage and driving a rust bucket. Her art display scene is also one of the most intense and beautiful pieces in the film and just reinforces not only how much integrity Detroit has, but what an amazing actor Thompson is.

Divisive, But Everything's Divisive These Days

Sorry To Bother You is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. It is one of the most divisive films of the past few years as well. Many (white people) will simply never be able to get past the opening twenty minutes because they have no interest in a film that so radically deconstructs race and class. Others may be turned off by a third act turn and ending which are simply a bridge too far for many people. Speaking for myself, I'm not one to usually talk to the movie screen in a theater, but my first viewing at a certain point I literally bust out with a loud and involuntary "What the f—?!?!?" So it's understandable people might check out at that point. And finally, perhaps it is because it is so divisive that makes it the film for our time. Everything is divisive these days. In other words, Boots Riley nailed it.

But while some have a problem with the surreal elements of the film, it is what transforms this into the masterpiece that best reflects our time. Blindspotting, Fruitvale Station, and Last Black Man in San Francisco are far too literal and so have less impact as they only swallow one or two issues (usually the intersection of race and poverty/gentrification). But Riley, with a drug-infused third act that includes a Claymation segment (credited to "Michel Dongry"– nice shout-out to the film's visual inspiration from French director Michel Gondry), decides to take on the entire enchilada of the problems that late-stage capitalism presents.

Sorry To Bother You Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson
(l to r.) Lakeith Stanfield as Cassius Green and Tessa Thompson as Detroit star in director Boots Riley's SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, an Annapurna Pictures release.

And perhaps what makes it the best film of this time is that it seems to go out of its way to specifically not be about this time. Never once does the film mention Trump. It understands that the problems we face go more profound than any one politician. Indeed, a late in the third act piece of dialogue brings into question precisely if the "normal" behaviors of calling our elected officials and voting will be enough to fix what ails us. What makes this film divisive is it is challenging. We will be challenged to do more than just our typical behaviors.

And then there's the music. Riley, formerly of Bay Area hip hop group The Coup, makes sure the film is bathed in a perfect musical atmosphere. There are also some specific moments late in the movie that deconstructs and indict the commodification of rap music for white audiences and precisely what they demand that is one of the best moments of the film.

It's rare that a film ever surprises me, much less flabbergasts me. This movie is still astounding and demands to be seen just so you can discuss it. Love it or hate it; you will have a strong reaction to this movie. And perhaps there's nothing better than can be said about a true piece of art that will stand the test of time and, hopefully, be looked back upon as prophetic and timely. Sorry To Bother You is that movie for our times.

You can stream Sorry To Bother You right now on Hulu.

Solar Opposites Gets Season 3; Crossing Swords Returning for Season 2

by Ray Flook
Corey

Solar Opposites is real good

While the streaming service has been known in the past for its acquired adult animation library (Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, Futurama, King of the Hill, and more), it appears Hulu is pretty pleased with how its recent move (we didn't forget you, The Awesomes) into "original content territory" has gone. Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan's Solar Opposites has received a season 3 order, having received an initial two-season order. Meanwhile, John Harvatine IV and Tom Root's recently-released Crossing Swords will be returning for a second season.

In Rick and Morty duo Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan's adult animated series Solar Opposites, a team of four aliens who escape their exploding homeworld only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them, and terraform the Earth. The series also features an all-star line-up of voice actors that also includes Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, Christina Hendricks, Jason Mantzoukas, Liam Cunningham, Rainn Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, and more. Here's a look at the official second and third-season renewal announcement video:

Robot Chicken executive producers John Harvatine IV and Tom Root's Crossing Swords focuses on Patrick, a good-hearted peasant who lands a coveted squire position at the royal castle however his dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when he learns his beloved kingdom is run by a hornet's nest of horny monarchs, crooks, and charlatans. Even worse, Patrick's valor made him the black sheep in his family, and now his criminal siblings have returned to make his life hell. Written by Harvatine IV and Root, the animated series stars Nicholas Hoult, Adam Ray, Tara Strong, Tony Hale, Luke Evans, Seth Green, Alanna Ubach, Adam Pally, Yvette Nicole Brown, Maya Erskine, Breckin Meyer, and Wendi McClendon-Covey. Full Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula Trailer Debuts

by Jeremy Konrad
Corey

First one was good.

Train to Busan came out in 2016 and took the horror community by storm, releasing to pretty much universal acclaim and big box office. A sequel was inevitable, and the full trailer for it debuted this afternoon. Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula is again directed by Yeon Sang-ho and fast-forwards the action four years to show the devastation in Korea. A young soldier who initially escaped the events four years earlier now has to return to find and assist survivors. The problem with that is the number of zombies he will have to go through to do it. Watch the trailer for Train to Busan: Peninsula below.

Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula Synopsis

"When the zombie outbreak swept the entire nation, Jung-seok (Gang Dong-won) barely escaped South Korea alive. While living a life of despair in Hong Kong, he receives an enticing offer to return to the quarantined peninsula. His mission is to retrieve an abandoned truck in the middle of Seoul within a time limit and escape the peninsula silently. But his operation goes haywire when a mysterious militia known as Unit 631 ambushes Jung-seok's small team, as well as even more vicious hordes of zombies. In his most desperate moment, Min-jung's (Lee Jung-hyun) family saves him, and he plans one last chance to escape the peninsula once and for all. The prodigal son, the Survivor and the Deranged. Their violent struggle for survival begins!"
Two New Train To Busan: Peninsula Posters Debut Online
Peninsula Poster 2

Man, that looks spectacular. Hopefully, this film has the same type of strong character work as the original. While the characters started making dumb decisions towards the end of Train to Busan, no one could argue that they weren't fully realized characters and not just throw away zombie food. It looks like zombies won't be the only threat being faced here either, a hallmark of post-apocalyptic films. In Sang-ho's hands, I trust that it will be more interesting than other paint by numbers storytelling, though.

Train to Busan: Peninsula just jumped way up on my list of most anticipated films of 2020 list, which shortens by the day anyway, with most movies being moved to 2021. It will release later this year.

Doom Patrol Season 2 Extended Trailer Introduces Some Familar Faces

by Ray Flook

With only eight days to go until the return of DC Universe and (now) HBO Max's dysfunctional do-gooders Doom Patrol, do you really need any more reasons to be excited? We've got Mark Sheppard's (Supernatural) Willoughby Kipling returning, Niles "The Chief" Caulder's (Timothy Dalton) daughter Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro) joining (and hopefully not destroying the world), our heroes needing to find their way back to normal size, and the fallout from last season's revelations about The Chief still to deal with. Heading into its Thursday, June 25 debut, that reads like a pretty full plate all by itself.

A look at The SeX-Men in Doom Patrol season 2 (Image: DC Universe/HBO Max)
A look at The SeX-Men in Doom Patrol season 2 (Image: DC Universe/HBO Max)

But just in case you need a smidge more convincing, here's an extended look at what the sophomore season has in store for Cliff aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Vic aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade).

So you may have noticed some not-so-familiar-yet-incredibly-fascinating faces in the clip above. Well, consider this your first introduction to the small screen's versions of The Candlemaker, Red Jack, Doctor Tyme, and The SeX-Men (names that fans of the comics know all too well). The Candlemaker is a psychic entity "big bad" who feeds off of mankind's fear of the apocalypse; while Red Jack claims to have created the universe, was once Jack the Ripper, and dines on pain and suffering (you see the similarities, right?). Doctor Tyme is a time-controlled villain who eventually redeems himself and goes on to help the team. The SeX-Men is not only a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" to Marvel's not-so-merry mutant team, but also a government-sponsored team of "Mulders" and "Scullys" who investigate supernatural situations of the more sexual kind. Captain Kiss, Lieutenant Cuddle, and Lieutenant Torture would eventually go on to work alongside our heroes.

DC's strangest group of heroes — Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — are back again to save the world. That is, if they can find a way to grow up…both figuratively and literally.

Following the defeat of Mr. Nobody, the members now find themselves mini-sized and stranded on Cliff's toy race car track. Here they begin to deal with their feelings of betrayal by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton), while confronting their own personal baggage. And as each member faces the challenge of growing beyond their own past traumatic experiences, they must come together to embrace and protect the newest member of the family: Dorothy Spinner (Abigail Shapiro), Niles' daughter, whose powers remain a mysterious but real threat to bringing on the end of the world.

Mondo Is Releasing Some Awesome Jaws Merch This Wednesday

by Jeremy Konrad

Jaws turns 45 this summer, and Mondo is celebrating with new and old releases. First, they are repressing their excellent vinyl release of the classic John Williams soundtrack. Mondo will also have two new shirts available, one featuring the doomed ship Orca sinking, while the other features the poster image form Jaws 2. Finally, their enamel pin set paying tribute to the original film is also being re-released. All are fitting tributes to a classic and one of the most iconic films of all-time. Check out all of Mondo's Jaws merch, going on sale Wednesday, below.

Mondo Jaws Releases

"One of the finest achievements in film music and quite possibly the most iconic score of all time, John Williams' JAWS is an absolute essential for soundtrack collectors.

While the Grammy-winning 1975 MCA album was a re-recording, Mondo's double vinyl set presents the entire Academy Award-winning score as composed and recorded for the actual film in its first-ever vinyl release. Album co-producer Mike Matessino restored, edited, and mixed the music from the original studio elements for the best possible quality, approved by the composer himself."

Orca Shirt

"Artist Ryan Duggan's colorful, elegiac design salutes the good – though doomed – ship Orca, and the final showdown between man and shark as seen in Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster, JAWS. His design is punctuated by a verse from salty sailor Quint's mournful sea shanty."

Jaws 2 Shirt

"One good bite deserves another. This iconic one-sheet design for 1978's JAWS 2 was originally created by pulp artist Lou Feck, and has been rendered in stark black and white for this t-shirt."

Jaws Pin Set

I hope I can get the vinyl and pin set. I missed both the last time they were available and that vinyl has been high on my want list for quite some time. Make sure to get as best a shot you can Wednesday right when they go on sale.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 2 Finale Does Right by Guillermo

by Alejandra Bodden

FX's season finale of What We Do in the Shadows went out with a bang. And a whole lot of stabbing. A little holy water burning, too. "Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires" was not only another fine episode, but it also capped off a season that started strong and never looked back. I could not have asked for a better note to end the season in. We finally get answers, while left curious about how things will move on from where things are left dangling. And we are definitely looking forward to what can come from what we now know.

Turns out, Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) is gone only leaving a note that read "sorry" behind. Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Laszlo (Matt Berry) are trying to survive without him, not quite pulling it off well. Colin (Mark Proksch) becomes the new busboy to run their errands, so you can imagine how well he is taking that. I found it fascinating how much they took it personally that Guillermo left and how increasingly aware they became of what he does for them (even if they are not ready to admit that they actually "need" him). Even Nandor was doubting himself, wondering if he should have behaved differently toward Guillermo.

What We Do in the Shadows
Guillermo in the season 2 finale of What We Do in the Shadows (Image: FX)

We realize soon enough that as much as they might miss him, they really did not know a lot about Guillermo personally despite having been close to him for so many years. Even though we had previously seen how out-of-touch with reality Nandor, Laszlo, and Nadja truly are, it becomes even more obvious this time and it literally almost costs them everything. They are unable to dress or dispose of the bodies they consume properly. Things soon start looking pretty unkempt as pools of blood and candle wax accumulates. It was a nice touch to see how they realize how much Guillermo does. Things quickly turn around when they get an invitation to the Théâtre des Vampires, a traveling theatre meant only for the "creme de la creme" in the world of vampires. Of course, this makes them feel special so there must be something wrong.

On his end, Guillermo is on edge and staying with his mom, trying to convince himself that leaving Nandor was for the best. He promises his mom a new fridge and decides to go look for one at the mansion. He realizes the poor condition the house is in and finds out the invitation is actually a trap from the Vampire Council. The council believes Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin have been killing the vampires that Guillermo has been disposing of the entire season. However, I think Nandor realized Guillermo is indeed behind all of this and tries throwing him under the bus while also covering for him (he meant well).

WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS
WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS — "Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires" Jemaine Clement as Master of Ceremonies. CR: Russ Martin/FX

At some point, Guillermo snaps and goes full Van Helsing on the whole theatre filled with vampires taking them head-on. Thankfully, Jemaine Clement's Vladislav made it out safely (hopefully for a seasonal visit to What We Do in the Shadows). We also realize his last name is De La Cruz (of the Cross) which makes me wonder if it also comes with some sort of hidden power that might make him unable to transform. I found the vampires' reactions hilarious: they seem to pretty much be okay with how Guillermo was disposing of the council and the audience. I found it incredibly endearing and in line with the dynamic that all that could come out of Nandor's mouth was that no one picked up his clean clothes for him. I look forward to seeing where their relationship goes from here and how all vampires treat Guillermo moving forward because our four vampires were literally a captive audience for his "performance." I hope there is some sort of unspoken agreement to get along a tad better, and I have a feeling everyone is going to take their turn grabbing the dry cleaning.

PEACH MOMOKO FLASHBACK!!

by Ben C

Peach Momoko variant cover comic book exclusive artwork

With all the heat(well deserved) that Peach Momoko is experiencing right now and so many out there looking for more content, CBSI wanted to remind our awesome community about this incredible piece we debuted back in January courtesy of the legendary Inigo.

ORIGINALLY POSTED TO COMICBOOKINVEST.com ON JANUARY 20th, 2020 BY SUPERFAN INIGO!!

With just a few Marvel covers under her belt, Peach Momoko has become quite a big name. Seeing as how I will be crossing her path during con season, I tried to learn more about her art.

I am not the world’s biggest otaku, so it takes more than a few covers to win me over. A quick search on Momoko, however, immediately told me that her art is not just cute, in fact she seems to have an interest in the macabre:

Being a huge horror fan, I find that very interesting and immediately made me want to know more. While not necessarily work safe, some of her non-US pieces are really good.

Let’s take a look at those Marvel covers then, shall we?

I have always found that Black Cat cover a bit weird, no idea why, but other than that and the Doctor Strange covers, I dig pretty much all of them. The cover that really made me pay attention to her art more closely, though, was the Fallen Angels cover. It’s dynamic, with the character jumping at you and the forest and the pack of wolves keeping the eye moving nicely.

She’s not only worked for Marvel though …

Some of those (The Clock #1, Red Eye #1 and Die #6) are really impressive and I would say are better examples of her art (again, comparing just to what I have seen, but she seems to enjoy that type of layout). The TMNT #100 cover poster is a lot of fun too. The only “disappointment” in these is probably the boobcake in Patriotika, but if you have seen Parrillo’s covers for that series, it’s probably a requirement.

Anyway, so far so good, a lot of hits, not many misses …

Marvel Flair 2019

Momoko did 11 illustrations for this collection:

Again, some lovely art right there, almost made me break my vow not to buy trading cards. Almost!

Upcoming work

She will be doing the cover art for the new The Crow: Lethe series coming out soon and these Marvel jewels:

In a world where Scott Campbell seems to be losing power, where Dell’Otto is just coming back after a break to work in personal projects (which explains all those sketches that were used by store variants), where Artgerm reigns unopposed … will the power of Peach Momoko be enough to make the fight for cover supremacy interesting again? I don’t know about you, but I certainly hope so!

Watch The Red Band Trailer For The Highly Anticipated Becky Right Now

by Jeremy Konrad

Becky debuts this Friday, on both VOD services and at drive-ins around the country, and boy does Kevin James look different in this one. The thriller pic stars Lulu Wilson (Annabelle: Creation), Joel McHale (Community), and Kevin James (The King of Queens). It was initially supposed to debut at this year's festival, but since that was canceled, it will now come to VOD streaming. Becky is directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, with a script from Nick MorrisRuckus Skye, and Lane Skye. Also starring in the film are Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid's Tale) and Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes). Check out the brand new red band trailer for the film below. NSFW obviously.

Becky Looks Fantastic

"Spunky and rebellious, Becky (Lulu Wilson) is brought to a weekend getaway at a lake house by her father Jeff (Joel McHale) in an effort to try to reconnect. The trip immediately takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts on the run, led by the merciless Dominick (Kevin James), suddenly invade the lake house." I cannot get over the appearance of Kevin James in this film. I understand now why they have kept it under wraps for so long, as it is actually a little jarring when he is onscreen. He is so cold, dare I say menacing. And how good does Lulu Wilson look here? She is sure to be a breakout star over the next few years, and this could one hundred percent be the role that gets her there. I was optimistic about Becky just reading about it, but after the trailer, I could not be more excited to check it out when it hits streaming VOD on June 5th. Make sure to put this one on your radar, and check out the list below to see if your local drive-in or theater is playing it.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 2 Preview: Nadja's Got Witch Problems

by Ray Flook

Hard to believe we've reached the penultimate episode of FX and FX on Hulu's What We Do in the Shadows: it feels like we were just welcoming back our favorite vampires Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Colin (Mark Proksch), as well as Nandor's familiar/future professional vampire killer, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). Knowing that the series is already set for a third season return makes the sting a little less painful, but it's hard not to miss a series that actually found a way to improve upon a quality first season and get better with each subsequent episode this season. But before we start feeling a little too depressed, let's take a look at the promo for this week's episode "Witches." So after a season where Nadja has clearly proven herself to be the "alpha" of the house, it's going to be interesting to see how she handles a glaring weakness all her own: Witches. Let's just say she blames them for everything:

What We Do in the Shadows season 2, episode 9 "Witches": When Nandor and Laszlo are abducted by a coven of witches, the others must venture Brooklyn to rescue them. Written by William Meny, and directed by Kyle Newacheck.

With the series not set to wrap its second season until June 10, the renewal timing is indicative of the show's performance this season. With an average of 3.2 million total viewers across both linear and digital platforms (including FX on Hulu) for its first six episodes, the season is rating 25% higher than at this point in the first season. The series has also enjoyed a "who's who" of guest stars this season, including Kroll, Benedict Wong's necromancer Wallace, Haley Joel Osment's familiar Topher, Craig Robinson's vampire hunter Derek, and Mark Hamill's vengeance-seeking Jim the Vampire.

For Nick Grad, FX Entertainment's President of Original Programming, the decision was one that viewers and critics made much easier by the way they received the new season: "We're incredibly happy that critics and audiences are all in on Shadows. Week in and week out, the producers, writers, and our amazing cast continue to make one of the funniest and best comedy series on TV." FX's What We Do in the Shadows is produced by FX Productions, with Clement, Waititi, and Paul Simms serving as executive producers. Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, and Stefani Robinson also serve as executive producers on the series.

Godzilla Vs. Kong Rated PG-13: Intense Sequneces Of Creature Violence

by Jeremy Konrad

Godzilla Vs. Kong may be delayed to November, but the ratings board has apparently seen it. The MPAA has rated the big slugfest PG-13 for "intense sequences of creature violence/destruction and brief language." That is the same rating Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters received. This outing for the MonsterVerse is directed by Adam Wingard and stars Godzilla, King Kong, Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, Zhang Ziyi, and Demián Bichir.

Fans Are Getting Antsy For a Godzilla Vs. Kong Trailer

"In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity's fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans' origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the Earth forever."

The number one question on fan's minds currently is when we might get a trailer for Godzilla Vs. Kong. There was almost a 100 percent certainty that there was to be one at SDCC this summer, and now that the show is canceled, the next most likely event would be Warner Bros. debut of Christopher Nolan's Tenet in theaters. Right now, that is set for July 17th, but as the date draws near, Hollywood is skeptical that release will happen. It may just end up being an online release, after all. Which is fine, we just want to see the footage at this point. I join fans in the excitement for Godzilla Vs. Kong, but will also walk out of the theater mad as hell if King Kong doesn't emerge victorious.

Oooooh will be worth the wait.

As fans of the award-winning FX anthology series Fargo await news on when the fourth "installment" (translation: season), Noah Hawley and season star and executive producer Chris Rock want you to know that they feel your pain but they need to ask for a bit more "Patience". Actually, that's also the name of the teaser that was released on Thursday (though it did have a blink-and-you'll-miss-it brief life on YouTube earlier this week), showing Rock's Loy Cannon and Glynn Turman's Doctor Senator patiently waiting on someone and/or something. Aside from the fact that we're already locked in after less than 30 seconds, the clip's great because it essentially represents the two sets of emotions we've been feeling about the wait.

When the series does return from its coronavirus-related production shutdown and makes it to air, Rock is promising viewers that if there's one word to describe the fourth season, it's big. Actually, think very big: "It's the biggest Fargo. The scale is tremendous. Fargo normally tells little stories that get out of hand. They're about ordinary people, something happens, and then we get to see how evil ordinary people can be. This is quite different. We start off gangsters, so we're beginning with bad people, and then it escalates."

In 1950, at the end of two great American migrations — that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago — and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities — you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream.

In Kansas City, two criminal syndicates — one Italian, led by Donatello Fadda, one African American, led by Loy Cannon (Rock) — have struck an uneasy peace, which the heads of both families have cemented by trading their youngest sons.Together they control an alternate economy — that of exploitation, graft and drugs. This too is the history of America.

Cannon is the head of one family, a man who — in order to prosper — has surrendered his oldest boy to his enemy, and who must in turn raise his son's enemy as his own. It's an uneasy peace, but profitable. And then the head of the Kansas City mafia goes into the hospital for routine surgery and dies. And everything changes.

It's a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.

FX's fourth installment of Fargo also stars Timothy Olyphant (Dick "Deafy" Wickware) Uzo Aduba (Zelmare Roulette), Jessie Buckley (Oraetta Mayflower), Salvatore Esposito (Gaetano Fadda), Andrew Bird (Thurman Smutney), Jeremie Harris (Leon Bittle), Gaetano Bruon (Constant Calamita), Anji White (Dibrell Smutney), Francesco Acquaroli (Ebal Violante), Emyri Crutchfield (Ethelrida Pearl Smutney), Amber Midthunder (Swanee Capps), Jack Huston (Odis Weff), Jason Schwartzman (Josto Fadda), Ben Whishaw (Rabbi Milligan), Glynn Turman (Doctor Senator), Corey Hendrix (Omie Sparkman), Karen Aldridge (Zelmare Roulette), Kelsey Asbille, and newcomer Matthew Elam.

Solar Opposites Cast, Creative On What Makes Hulu Series So Different

by Ray Flook
Corey

Really enjoying this show.

Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan's (Rick and Morty) animated sci-fi/comedy series Solar Opposites have officially been running rampant around our planet (and in it) and all over Hulu for more than two weeks now. That means Korvo (Roiland), Terry (Thomas Middleditch), Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone), and Jesse (Mary Mack) have had a ton of time to spread their "sci-fi s**t" over every square inch of our soon-to-be-departed Earth. But did you ever wonder how our fearsome foursome-plus-one got to be here in the first place? No, I'm not talking about the "dying planet" backstory. We're talking about how the series came to life and made its way to Hulu, because if you have than the fine folks at the streaming service have you covered. In the following clip, Roiland, McMahan, and members of the cast explain how the series came to be, why having fun was an important aspect in creating the series, and why it's so different than other animated series.

One of the concepts from the series that's really caught on with viewers was Yumyulack's world-within-a-world known Pink Floyd-ishly as "The Wall" and it's one that proves to be personal for Roiland: "During the break between Seasons 2 and 3 of Rick and Morty, I was working with Mike and thinking a lot about [Solar Opposites], and sort of getting a lot of concept art for the world and the characters. One of the things that I got was this wall in the kids' room, and at the time, it looked a bit more like a fallout shelter, sort of like these wide floors with furniture and stuff in there, and the kids sort of just peering into it. I have some really cool concept art of Yumulak looking into The Wall, and there's no people in there, but it's all furnished and ready to go."

Roiland continued, "Basically, it was an idea we had really early on, even before we wrote the pilot, that we'd loved. And the idea was to kind of slowly inch our way to a bigger story inside The Wall and treat The Wall like a high-stakes microcosm of society, where it's sort of post-apocalyptic and they have to shed all of their regular-world belief systems and roles, and kind of take on these new roles inside this Wall."

In Roiland and McMahn's adult animated series, a team of four aliens who escape their exploding homeworld only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo and Yumyulack only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry and Jesse love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them, and terraform the Earth. Here's a look at the official trailer for Solar Opposites, featuring an all-star line-up of voice actors, including Roiland, Giambrone, Middleditch, Mack, Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, Christina Hendricks, Jason Mantzoukas, Liam Cunningham, Rainn Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, and more.

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Dance Holds Up Nicely to The Original

by Ray Flook

On October 1, 1989, seven extraordinary humans were born; and on July 31, 2020, they return to us for a second season. That's when the second season of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy makes its way onto our screens, and to make the occasion viewers were treated to a special day announcement video. If you're like us and you've watched Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min dance in celebration of the show's return, you probably have everyone's dance moves scarred into your brains.

But even if you've gotten yourself to the point where you mumble the lyrics to "I Think We're Alone Now" in your sleep, the streaming service released a cool clip that you can check out below comparing the Hargreeves' original performance with their real-life counterparts' versions. Seeing them matched up side-by-side makes the home lockdown clip even more impressive:

In March, series creator/EP Steve Blackman took to Instagram to show the team working hard on post-production on the live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's comic book series. Then last month, Min offered us a personal glimpse into how ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement) recording was going (otherwise known as "looping"). At the beginning of May, Min shared an image from a Zoom meeting with EP Jeff King, Kripke, and the cast that shifted our hopes into overdrive.

Here's a look at what appears to be the season's episode titles and writers, according to the WGA site. We're avoiding assigning them specific episode numbers until they're confirmed, but the running order for the season could be as follows (with writers included): "743" (Bronwyn Garrity and Roberto Askins), "A Light Supper" (Aeryn Michelle Williams), "OGA for OGA" (Nikki Schiefelbein), "Right Back Where We Started" (Blackman), "The End of Something" (Blackman), "The Frankel Footage" (Mark Goffman), "The Majestic 12" (Garrity), "The Seven Stages" (Goffman and Jesse McKeown), "The Swedish Job" (McKeown), and "Valhalla" (Robert Askins). Just a quick reminder that all of this is unofficial until it's official, but they do have us curious.

Edgar Wright, Complete Fiction Set to Develop 3 Netflix Series

by Ray Flook

Writer-director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead) has joined with former Big Talk collaborator Nira Park, writer-director Joe Cornish (The Kid Who Would Be King), and senior creative advisor Rachael Prior (Baby Driver) have launched a production company with a purpose. Set to produce and develop projects on both the film and television sides, Complete Fiction was created so that new generations of writers and directors can have their works come to life while be mentored by Wright and other filmmakers.

On the film side, the company is already in post-production on Wright's upcoming feature film Last Night In Soho as well as his untitled feature documentary focusing on the band Sparks. Now, Complete Fiction is moving into the television/streaming world in a big way, announcing three new series in development at Netflix. Lockwood & Co is a supernatural action-adventure detective series, adapted and based on Jonathan Stroud's best-selling novels. In addition, the company has optioned the sci-fi horror trilogy, The Murders of Molly Southbourne, from novelist Tade Thompson and historical fantasy series, The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy) from S.A. Chakraborty.

For Wright, the announcement not only marks an opportunity to influence a medium that means so much to him but for him to be able to do it while working with those he trusts: "This new chapter with Complete Fiction is something I have wanted to embark on for a while now. Nira has been my producer now for more than 20 years, but we, along with our amazing team of long-time friends and collaborators, still share the same drive to bring original stories to the screen. Complete Fiction will be a dynamic hub for passionate creatives – somewhere they can feel nurtured and protected. I've been lucky enough to always have this team around me who have advocated for my voice and vision as a filmmaker, and I'm excited to bring new stories into the world and be part of making that happen for the next generation."

The Boys Season 2 "So Close" to Complete; Premiere Date Coming Soon

by Ray Flook

Well, that didn't take long. One day after we shared some very cool Zoom meeting backgrounds from the series to help ease your home lockdown stress, The Boys executive producer Eric Kripke has an update with some good news that fans will want to hear. We knew that Kripke and the team were hard at work (from a healthy distance) editing the second season of Amazon Prime's adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series for some time now. Since that time, we've been pleasantly distracted by rewatching the first season, reading up on the casts' Q&A sessions, and checking out the streaming service's compilation videos. On Saturday, Kripke tweeted that the second season was still being finished remotely (with VFX and sound still being worked on) but that they are "so close" to being finished and that an "airdate" and "other cool sh*t" will be coming our way soon.

News on The Boys season 2 will be arriving soon, courtesy of Amazon Prime Video.
News on The Boys season 2 will be arriving soon, courtesy of Amazon Prime Video.

The following second-season teaser picks up where things left off last time: a bloody Homelander meeting his son. From there, we have a bloody mess that finds A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) not doing so well; Homelander taking on Starlight (Erin Moriarty); Mr. Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) stepping up his presence, The Deep (Chace Crawford) still trying to not be so shallow; a quick look at Butcher's good boy Terror, and more. Joining the series this season are Aya Cash, Goran Visnjic, Claudia Doumit, Patton Oswalt, and a returning Malcolm Barrett.

Some Things About "The Boys" Season One You Should Know

Here's a look at the previous trailers and teasers for The Boys, with some serious eye-opening NSFW stuff, and make sure to check out Bleeding Cool's two-scoops-of-spoilers-filled review of the series premiere here.

On the side of The Boys, Urban's Billy Butcher is mysterious and brutal, hiding a personal agenda as he approaches potential new recruit Hughie (Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalizes on Hughie's rage over his girlfriend Robin's accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the super-hero franchise.

Rounding out Butcher's team are Laz Alonso (The Mysteries of Laura) as second-in-command Mother's Milk; Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) as The Female, a young Asian assassin with blistering fighting skills who happens to have superpowers; and Tomer Capon as unpredictable wild card Frenchie, a brutal warrior when who lives a life of no attachments or responsibilities.

On the flip side, The Seven are Starr (American Gothic) as The Homelander, leader of the main superhero team, The Seven; Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon) as Queen Maeve, a member of The Seven; Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) as The Seven member The Deep, an aquatic hero; Jesse T. Usher (Survivor's Remorse) as speedster with a major PR problem, A-Train; Nathan Mitchell (iZombie) as Black Noir, a masked superhero with fighting and Set martial arts skills; Alex Hassell as perverted invisible hero Translucent (who's not really…you know… "translucent"); and Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones) is Starlight/Annie, a young woman who can make lightning bolts flash from her eyes and dreams of being a "real superhero" like the famous Seven.
