The Kingsman Shop Opens In London, For The Golden Circle, And You Can Visit.

by Rich Johnston

Just as happened three years ago, with the release of Kingsman: The Secret Service, the producers have opened a real-life version of the Kingsman store, in the same London district that it appears in the movies, to accompany the upcoming release of Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Though this time they have a few changes to reflect the upcoming movie.

I popped along yesterday with my youngest daughter to check it out… although to get there we had to join the march against Brexit through London yesterday – ironically considering Kingsman co-creator Mark Millar‘s own belief’s on that matter.

And suddenly it was there. Straight out of the films. Berry Bros & Rudd Ltd of 3 St James Street, transformed.

We received the classiest of welcomes.

And went for a wander…

They have the genuine Mr Pickle, Colin Firth’s stuffed dead dog from the film.

A swift bump of self-medication.

The Kingsman accouterments, again, the props from the movie.

Oxfords not brogues, remember. And yes, I really don’t fit in, in this place.

Thankfully my youngest charms everyone and always dresses to impress. Herself.

And new clothing and designs for the US-based Statesman organisation. Which side are you on, boys?

Oh and there was a lot of fuss made over this watch, revealed by touching a screen which then pulled back to become a transparent sheet of glass.

The store also comes with a free newspaper for the occasion.

Here’s what else we could find.

This is the second ‘costume to collection’ partnership between Mr Porter, Matthew Vaughn and costume designer Arianne Phillips. The successful creation and launch of Kingsman for the original 2015 film was on Savile Row, this year it was at Berry Bros. & Rudd.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is released on September 22nd. The new Kingsman range of clothing and accessories is available now on MrPorter.com.

Stan Lee In Talks With Leonardo DiCaprio For Lead In Biopic

by Jude Terror

Superstar actor Leonardo DiCaprio is the frontrunner for the role of Stan Lee in an upcoming biopic that Lee may decide to make one day, Lee revealed at Hascon this weekend.

Stan Lee-onardo DiCaprio

Lee is already in talks with DiCaprio about the role, and the actor is said to be on board, according to a report from Adventures in Poor Taste that we are definitely not taking way too seriously. DiCaprio has previously been rumored for the role of The Joker in an unwanted origin movie, so scoring DiCaprio for a movie about the Marvel legend would be a big coup and also screw over the Distinguished Competition.

“Believe it or not, I’ve already discussed it with Leonardo DiCaprio,” Lee told the audience of a panel at the convention after being asked who he’d like to play him in a movie. “He’s a neighbor of mine and we were talking one day some months ago, and he said, ‘Boy it’d be fun to do your story on the screen.'”

Lee also revealed that he’s agreed to audition DiCaprio for the part: “So I said, ‘Well, I’ll audition you.’ Gotta make sure the guy can do it.”

No word yet on a director or a release date for this film, but we’ll be following this story closely and treating it with the seriousness that entertainment journalism demands.

‘Long Shot’ Trailer: A Netflix True Crime Doc – With a ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Twist

by Jacob Hall
Corey

Looks pretty crazy.

long shot trailer

You should take everything you read in the IMDB trivia pages with a fistful of salt, but one piece of information has stuck with me in the decade or so since I first read it. Curb Your Enthusiasm saved a man’s life. Literally. Because this man was arrested for a murder he didn’t commit and was facing the death penalty and the only hope of clearing his name meant the producers of HBO’s comedy series finding him in b-roll footage they filmed at Dodger Stadium at the time of the crime. Now that’s trivia worth knowing.

And now, this trivia tidbit has become a new documentary called Long Shot, which is set to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival before making its way to Netflix next month.

Director Jacob LaMendola‘s short documentary tells the story of Juan Catalan, who was arrested and charged with murder in 2003. But his alibi – he was at a baseball game with his daughter – was looking shaky in the eyes of the law, especially when he could not be found in footage from the television broadcast of the game.

Enter comedian and actor Larry David, who was filming scenes for the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode “The Car Pool Lane” in Dodger Stadium that night.

The trailer essentially telegraphs what happens, but I’m fascinated to learn the full story. I especially look forward to hearing David’s take on the whole situation, since he remarked at the time “I tell people that I’ve now done one decent thing in my life, albeit inadvertently.”

I often joke about Netflix making its film buying decisions based entirely on algorithms, but Long Shot feels genetically engineered to appeal to the service. It’s a true crime story, slotting in right alongside Making a Murderer. It’s a Hollywood story, easing in next to Five Came Back. And it’s directly connected to one of the most successful comedians of all time, making it a bizarro companion piece to their ever-growing line-up of comedy specials and shows. Heck, why not make this a double feature with their new Jerry Seinfeld special?

Here’s the official synopsis for Long Shot:

Juan Catalan was arrested for a murder he didn’t commit. To save his life, all he had to do was prove he was one of 56,000 people at a Dodgers Game that night. That’s where Larry David comes in…

Long Shot will premiere at the Telluride Film Festival this week before arriving on Netflix on September 29, 2017.

‘Mindhunter’ Teaser: Fincher Proves A Serial Killer Series Can Be Funny

by Ray Flook
Corey

Looks super creepy/good.

mindhunter teaser

If there’s one take away from the new teaser clip that Netflix released for David Fincher‘s (Seven) new series Mindhunter, it’s that you can have a show based around FBI agents and serial killers that can still maintain a sense of humor. A righteously dark sense of humor, but a sense of humor nonetheless.

“An agent in the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit develops profiling techniques as he pursues notorious serial killers and rapists.”

mindhunter teaser

Fincher directed the first two episodes and executive produces Mindhunter, which takes place in 1979 and focuses on FBI Special Agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) during the early days of the FBI’s serial killer profiling unit. The partners interview imprisoned serial killers in order to better understand how they think and operate, which they then apply to solving open cases. But as the agents delve deeper into the minds of the most criminally insane, those around them worry if they can find their way back. And even if they do…can they ever be the same?

mindhunter teaser

Mindhunter also stars Anna Torv (Fringe) and Hannah Gross (Unless), with Fincher sharing the directing chair with Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?). Fincher, Joshua Donen (Gone Girl, The Quick and the Dead), Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields & McCoys) and Cean Chaffin (Gone Girl, Fight Club) are executive producers.

mindhunter teaser

Mindhunter is based on Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit from John Douglas with Mark Olshaker, which chronicles Douglas’ twenty-five-year career in the FBI Investigative Support Unit, where he used psychological profiling to delve into the minds of the country’s most notorious serial killers and criminals.

This is Fincher’s first directorial effort since Gone Girl (2014); and spent the past year developing and spearheading the series, his second for Netflix after House of Cards. Fincher is currently beginning preliminary work of World War Z, the sequel to director Marc Forter‘s 2013 film adaptation of Max Brooks‘ 2006 novel.

Red Band Teaser Trailer For Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers 2

by Dan Wickline

Broken Lizard returns to the roads of Vermont with the long-awaited sequel to Super Troopers. A new red band teaser trailer shows Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske) being handcuffed to a bench while the rest of the troopers prepare to shave his… well, a part you wouldn’t normally think of having your co-workers shave for you. The only one who seems to be eager for the task is Farva (Kevin Heffernan)… as you’d expect. It’s almost time for Super Troopers 2.

Super Troopers 2

Along with the above mentioned actors, Brian Cox returns as Captain O’Hagan and will also include Rob Lowe, Linda Carter, Will Sasso, and Jim Gaffigan (who we see in the trailer). Jay Chandrasekhar directs and co-writes with Kevin Heffernan.

The synopsis for the film reads:

“When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers are tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in the disputed area.”

Super Troopers 2 will appropriately hit theaters on April 20th, 2018 (4/20).

This is a red band teaser trailer, so be careful watching it around anyone who is easily offended…

The Mockumenary ‘Killing Gunther’ Pits Assassins Against Arnold Schwarzenegger

by Kaitlyn Booth

What happens when you pit a rag tag group of assassins with everything to prove and tell them the only way to prove that they’re the best is to kill the best assassin in the world? And that big bad assassin is played by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger? That’s what this new comedy, Killing Gunther, is asking. It’s a mockumenary style comedy written and directed by Saturday Night Live alumni Taran Killam.

Sounds like a fun concept for a movie and Schwarzenegger might be known for his action roles but when he’s on for comedy he makes it work. The trailer looks like it could be a lot of fun and poster makes it look completely over the top in a good way. The handheld camera is an often used tool for indie filmmakers to hide their lack of budget but a The Office style movie but with assassins? Yeah, could be a lot of fun.

A group of eccentric assassins are fed up with Gunther, the world’s greatest hit-man and decide to kill him but their plan turns into a series of bungled encounters as Gunther seems to always be one step ahead.

Killing Gunther, directed and stars Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan, Cobie Smulders, Hannah Simone, and Allison Tolman. It will be released on VOD September 22nd and in select theaters on October 20th.

‘Jerry Before Seinfeld’ Trailer: The Comedian Goes Home For Netflix Special

by Ray Flook

jerry seinfeld trailer netflix special

For his first Netflix stand-up special Jerry Before Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld is going back home to where his comedy roots first took hold: New York City’s The Comic Strip.

As we can see from the new trailer released on Tuesday, the comedian finds himself splitting time between preparing for an intimate stand-up set at the famed comedy club and revisiting the places, people and memories that helped shape him into the comic he would eventually become. The special will also include never-before-seen material that includes family photographs, childhood videos, previously unseen performance footage, and more.

Here’s the first trailer for the special, which will premiere September 19th:

“In a special that blends live stand-up with a personal retrospective, Jerry Seinfeld returns to the New York comedy club that launched his career.”

The special is part of a deal that Netflix signed with Seinfeld in January 2017 that also included web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee moving to the streaming service from Crackle. The agreement also involves another new stand-up special, as well as the development of both scripted and non-scripted comedy programming for Netflix.

"How the Star Wars immersive hotel will work, and what it means"

by noreply@blogger.com (John)
Imagining a Rekall-like adventure at the planned Disney hotel:
Disney has a poor track record with immersive storytelling experiences, providing that you look only at most popular incarnation: videogames.

...

The immersive storytelling experience at the hotel is what guests will be paying for. It’s not an alternate reality game promoting a TV show. It’s not a free smartphone-powered Phineas and Ferb adventure at Epcot, or a $50 interactive Harry Potter magic wand at Universal Studios

...

Last week, you both received Coruscant Communicators in the mail — they’re larger than your MagicBands because they include a small display. The accompanying briefing card was short and to the point: “Your stay is a fully immersive experience. Don’t make any plans.”

Check in is easy. As soon you walk through the hotel doors (more of a high-tech glass-encased airlock), a ‘starship’ crewmember greets you by name, invites you to a reception with the commander that evening, and deposits your bag with a waiting drone. “BB-2 here is a little slow,” he says indulgently, “but I can highly recommend our bar while you wait for your quarters to be prepared.”

You don’t have long to appreciate the nebula through the multi-storey viewscreen before a scruffy-looking character comes by your table. He presses a bulky-looking scanner to your communicator. “I was expecting someone else. Never mind. Just keep this safe, and whatever you do, don’t give it to anyone — not even the rebels!” He rushes off before you can say anything else.

Tommy Toe Hold's 'Money Fight' post-mortem sees Conor McGregor launching McUFC

OK, this Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor stuff is just about in the rearview mirror, but you can’t truly move on until you hear from Tommy Toe Hold.

A cartoon who says bad words, Toe Hold’s recollection of UFC events differs ever-so-slightly from what the MMAjunkie cameras often collect onsite. Nevertheless, they never fail to entertain. Toe Hold may never have graced the pages of MMAjunkie before, but he’s a perfect fit for The Blue Corner.

In his latest episode, Toe Hold covers the aftermath of “The Money Fight.” It turns out Mayweather is always good for a catchphrase, and McGregor is still ascending, reaching that Oprah Winfrey level with his latest performance.

New Thor: Ragnarok Poster Features The Entire Cast

by Kaitlyn Booth

As November creeps closer, we are learning more and more about Thor: Ragnarok. We got another new poster today, and this one is just as bright and colorful as previous posters.

We also get yet another look at Odin. Thus far, Odin has been absent from the marketing, except for his spots on a few different posters and concept art. We have no idea what kind of role he’s going to play in this movie aside from the “hobo Odin” set photos that were leaked several months ago. His presence on the posters means he’s going to have some sort of role to play beyond that of just a basic cameo. Whatever that role is, they are keeping it secret for now.

Summary: Imprisoned, the mighty Thor finds himself in a lethal gladiatorial contest against the Hulk, his former ally. Thor must fight for survival and race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Idris Elba, and Mark Ruffalo. It will be released on November 3rd.

Stephen King Bans Trump From Watching ‘It’ Lest Film’s Evil Clown Serve As Inspiration

by Jude Terror

He’s killing the president with kindness.

Prolific author Stephen King has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump on Twitter, so it’s probably no surprise that Trump, a thin-skinned orange goblin who can’t tolerate criticism, blocked him. But King has decided to show Trump kindness in the face of this insult, rather than retaliation. King announced that Trump is henceforth banned from watching movie adaptations of King’s work:

By turning the other cheek, King has performed a service not only for Donald Trump, but for the world. First, by banning Trump from watching adaptations of Stephen King books, Trump will avoid having to sit through the 99% of them that are terrible, far worth the cost of missing the occasional Shining or Shawshank Redemption to avoid all the Maximum Overdrives and Needful Things.

But the ban will also ensure that Trump does not watch the reboot of It, in theaters September 8, which means that Trump will not be able to become inspired by the actions of Pennywise the clown. This is great news, because the last thing the country needs is a president lurking in sewers and terrorizing children, on top of everything else Trump already gets up to.

“There’s blame on both sides,” Trump would probably say about the conflict between innocent children and a demonic shapeshifting entity that disguises itself as a clown and murders those innocent children, if he were allowed to watch the movie. Trump would insist that there are “fine people” in the demonic clown community.

Nobody wants that.

So we sincerely thank you, Stephen King, from the bottom of our hearts, for having such a big heart that you would grant your enemy a reprieve from the punishment of watching adaptations of your books, while simultaneously saving the world from Donald Trump becoming more of an evil clown than he already is.

‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Gets Another Official Whiskey and a New International Poster

by Ethan Anderton

Kingsman Whiskey - Kingsman: The Golden Circle

When the Kingsman: The Golden Circle came to San Diego Comic-Con back in July, not only did it come with a bunch of footage from the comic book sequel directed by Matthew Vaughn, but it also came with an interesting cross-promotion for fans who are 21 and older (at least in the United States).

In the United Kingdom, the cover for the Kingsman agency is a tailor shop. But in the United States, their American cousin agency, the Statesman, operate a whiskey distillery. Vaughn found this the perfect opportunity to create his own brand of Statesman whiskey (which Halle Berry chugged a pint of at Comic-Con) in collaboration with the Old Forester whiskey distillery. But that won’t be the only Kingsman whiskey on the market.

The GlenDronach Distillery has announced their own Kingsman Edition whiskey as a cross-promotion with 20th Century Fox, Marv Films and Aberdeenshire distillery. You can find out more about both whiskeys below and see a new international poster for the sequel as well.

First up, in case you missed it the first time around, here’s the Old Forester Statesman whiskey:

Kingsman Whiskey - Old Forrester

The official page for this Old Forester Statesman whiskey says it “offers bold flavor blended to a smooth 95 proof from hand-selected casks of our famed Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky from the warmest places in the warehouse. Because true character is only revealed after a little heat, the Statesman product offers an exceptional balance of heat and spice.”

Having tried this whiskey while at San Diego Comic-Con, I can tell you it’s a very smooth drink, and it’s also delicious when used to make what is called a Statesman Tea Sling (get the recipe right here). You can find out for yourself since the Old Forester Statesman is available for purchase this month. Just check with your local liquor stores to see if they have it in stock.

Kingsman Whiskey - GlenDronach

Meanwhile, the more recently announced GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage whiskey (pictured above) will be a little more difficult to get your hands on.

Personally selected by director Matthew Vaughn, the 1991 vintage was picked because it’s the year Eggsy (Taron Egerton) was born. It’s crazy to think that “vintage” can be used to describe something from the year 1991, but I digress. Vaughn added, “It’s really special to get a limited edition vintage like this, and even more so as The GlenDronach is my favourite single malt whisky. I hope Kingsman fans around the world enjoy it as much as I do.”

Now this particular Kingsman whiskey I haven’t tried, and you’ll have to seek it out and have some extra cash in your pocket to get it. The GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage will only have 2,000 bottles available across the United States, the United Kingdom and parts of Asia, and one of them will cost you a little over $700. But each of the bottles is individually numbered and signed by both GlenDronach master blender Rachel Barrie and director Matthew Vaughn.

Honestly, I think more movies needs cross-promotions like this. Most of the merchandise promotions for movies are geared towards kids, but adults like to have fun too, and having movie-themed alcohol is a great place to start.

Anyway, Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives on September 22, 2017. Here’s a new poster for you to check out:

Kingsman The Golden Circle International Poster

Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.

Stranger Things Season 3 Confirmed By The Duffer Brothers, Season 4 Discussed

by Ray Flook

Looks like fans will be spending a little longer in the Upside Down, as Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers (Matt and Ross Duffer) confirmed a third season for Netlfix‘s hugely popular science fiction-horror series and discussed the show’s future moving into a fourth season and beyond. In an in-depth interview with Vulture to promote Stranger Things Season 2, The Duffer Brothers confirmed that there will in fact be a Stranger Things Season 3… and are pushing for a Stranger Things Season 4, which would allow the brothers to tell a complete story without watering-down to show’s quality.

stranger things season 3 is on the horizon

stranger things confirm season 3

“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” says Ross.

For Matt, it’s about making the changes necessary to the story while still maintaining that level of trust you have with the fans “We just have to keep adjusting the story, though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”

Ross put it much more succinctly: “They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town! It’s ridiculous!”

stranger things confirm season 3

As they were putting together plans for Stranger Things‘ second season,  The Duffer Brothers approached it from a film perspective rather than the usual television perspective. “I told Matt, ‘I don’t want to call it season two,” Ross explained of how they are looking at Stranger Things Season 3. “I just want it to feel like a movie sequel.’ If you have a successful movie, No. 2 is always a little bit bigger.”

As for The Duffer Brothers’ future? Seems like there might be a sci-fi blockbuster in their future, but not any time soon as Ross states that  project is “way, way off” but still in their sights.

“I think the goal right now is to focus on elevated genre with a focus on characters,” says Matt. “And no more kids on bikes.”

“A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins.”

Set to debut on Netflix on October 27, the second season of Stranger Things is a production of 21 Laps Entertainment and stars stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Matthew Modine, Noah Schnapp, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery.

Arrow’s Michael Rowe Stars In Punk Rock Driven Indie Film, Crown And Anchor’

by Dan Wickline

Michael Rowe is putting aside the genre fair for a character-driven indie film called Crown and Anchor. Rowe, who played Deadshot on the CW series Arrow and will be Ninjak in the upcoming webseries, Ninjak Vs The Valiant Universe, also co-wrote the film with Matt Wells and his brother Andrew, who directed it. Rowe and Wells are producing too.

Michael Rowe

The film, made for only $300k, is a punk rock drama that follows officer James Downey (Rowe) who has to head home for his mother funeral. He discovers his estranged cousin Danny (Wells) is keeping the family’s petty crime tradition alive but has gotten in over his head with addiction and violence. Seeing his cousin coming apart brings back James’ own childhood trauma while he struggles to keep together the family he once wanted to escape. The film also stars Natalie Brown (The Strain), Robert Joy (CSI: NY) and Stephen McHattie (Orphan Black).

The punk rock angle likely comes from Rowe’s past as a drummer in a punk band called Bucket Truck. He told me in an interview last year: “I feel like music gave me everything and that punk rock community and those dudes I spent all that time with in the van are what made me who I am.” The film features music by bands including Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Project X, Side by Side and others.

The film is set to hit the film festival circuit.

David Hasselhoff Wants a ‘Knight Rider’ Movie Like ‘Logan,’ Directed by Robert Rodriguez

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

Not a terrible idea...

Knight Rider Movie

David Hasselhoff is currently back in the spotlight for a presumably limited amount of time thanks to his cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, More importantly, Hasselhoff has even more fun performing the disco track “Guardians Inferno” on the film’s soundtrack, not to mention starring in the supplemental music video on the home video release. And the former Baywatch star is using the opportunity to talk about the hopes he has for a big screen adaptation of a familiar property he starred in back in the 1980s.

Knight Rider is a fan favorite show from the 1980s that hasn’t yet had a successful update on film or TV like many other shows from the same decade. If David Hasselhoff had his way, there would already be a successful reboot of Knight Rider, and he’s doing everything he can to try to make it happen. Just recently, we heard Hasselhoff had tried to convince Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to be at the helm of a Knight Rider movie, but now he wants Robert Rodriguez to direct, and he knows exactly which movie he wants to emulate.

CinemaBlend spoke with David Hasselhoff and the actor told them about his idea to have Robert Rodriguez tackle Knight Rider. Furthermore, Hasselhoff himself wants to star and have it be something akin to Logan:

“I have met Robert Rodriguez. He does Dusk til Dawn and Machete. And I said ‘You need to do Knight Rider.’ Because he was doing a marathon of Knight Riders and he said ‘Can we have a selfie!?’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t want a selfie! I want to do the movie! I want to shoot the TV series! I want to bring it back and make it dark! Michael Knight comes back and he’s pissed.’ … I hope it happens, and if it does, it’ll be kind of like Logan. It will be dark. Hasselhoff as Michael Knight in 2017. Knight Rider. The saga continues.”

First of all, it sounds like David Hasselhoff is just throwing this idea out to any director who will listen to him. That’s how desperate he is to see a Knight Rider movie happen.

Furthermore, David Hasselhoff appears to lack a bit of self-awareness when it comes to his capabilities as an actor. When the actor mentions that he wants a Knight Rider movie to be like Logan, where it’s dark and it features himself as an aged Michael Knight, that sounds more like a fan film idea than a legitimate approach to Knight Rider. Are we really going to have a dark, gritty approach to a cheesy 1980s action series about a guy wearing a leather jacket who drives a talking car?

While I can appreciate David Hasselhoff’s ambition to protect the properties he was part of and hope that they get treated right when being adapted for a new audience, he seems woefully misguided in his efforts. There’s always the chance that Hasselhoff could have a performance in him along the lines of Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, but personally I just don’t think it’s in the cards.

Do you want to see a Knight Rider movie at all?

‘Stranger Things’ Will Likely End After Four Seasons

by Hoai-Tran Bui

stranger things seasons

How much stranger can one small Indiana town get? At least four seasons worth, according to the creators and showrunners of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things.

Matt and Ross Duffer said they don’t plan on keeping Stranger Things running past four seasons, keeping the story as tight and well-plotted as they possibly can. Oh, and to make sure those adorable kids aren’t suddenly pushing 30 at the end of the series.

The second season of Stranger Things has yet to hit our screens, but the Duffer brothers are already looking two years ahead. The brothers confirmed that the hit ’80s-set sci-fi horror series is set for a third season, with a goal of wrapping up the series after its fourth season.

“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out, Ross Duffer told Vulture.

Matt Duffer added: “We just have to keep adjusting the story. Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”

A fourth season would probably air in 2019, when the child actors on the show, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp, would be between 15 and 17 years old. In the show itself, they would all be about 16 years old.

Puberty has always wreaked havoc on shows that feature child actors — remember how Lost got rid of Walt after two seasons because he was aging too quickly and they completely dropped his storyline — though Stranger Things does have the fallback of being a coming-of-age story wrapped up in a horror series, like so many of the ’80s horror movies from which it draws influence.

But other than the rapid aging of their child stars, Ross Duffer pointed out there’s only so much supernatural phenomena that one town can take. Last year had Hawkins, Indiana, dealing with the Demagorgon, and this year they’re getting a creepy something from the Upside Down that’s even bigger and badder.

“They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town!” says Ross. “It’s ridiculous!”

That’s one of the drawbacks of doing a serialized story rather than an anthology series like I — and many others — initially thought the Duffer brothers would continue Stranger Things as after it became Netflix’s sleeper hit last year. It was a format recently popularized by prestige shows like Fargo, and less prestigious but high-concept series like American Horror Story. And Stranger Things seemed to have lent itself to that format: the retro homages, the small-town setting, the neatly wrapped up sci-fi horror storyline. But the characters were just too charming and precious to abandon, and I completely understand why the Duffer brothers wouldn’t want to lose a talent like Brown. That said, I’m glad they’re keeping it short and simple with a possible four-season order.

Stranger Things season 2 premieres on Netflix on October 27, 2017.

Does This Look Just Like Siena, Italy, to You?

Il Palio!

I saw this website promo for The Siena, in Montclair, NJ and just had to chuckle. The promo says the building is “inspired by Tuscany” and has a photo of the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena.  Having lived part-time in Italy for 17 years, I have a pretty good idea what Siena (and Tuscan buildings, in […]

xHamster To Wachowskis: Let’s Make Beautiful Sense8 Music Together

by Jude Terror

It seems like whenever a show with a devout following gets canceled nowadays, everyone hopes for an online streaming service to swoop in and save the day. But what if that streaming service were the number three porn site on the internet?

Sense8

That’s exactly the question facing the producers of Sense8, the Netflix sci-fi series from The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski that was as expensive as it was beloved. Unfortunately, belovedness doesn’t pay the bills, and the show apparently cost a crapload of money to make, leading Netflix to cancel it after Season 2 (though they do plan to let the show wrap up its cliffhanger in a two-hour special).

But there’s a way that Sense8 could go on, if someone else were to take over from Netflix. And porn giant xHamster is looking to rise to the occasion.

According to a report from Geeks of Color, xHamster Vice President Alex Hawkins sent a letter to the Wachowskis offering to produce the series. And the offer is dead serious. See for yourself:

Hawkins makes some pretty good points. And if there’s any show bold enough to jump in bed with a porn site and make it work, it would probably be Sense8.

What do you think?

MoviePass Has Changed: See One Movie in Theaters Each Day for Just $10 a Month

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

Seems too good a deal to be true...

MoviePass Subscription

MoviePass has seen plenty of changes to its subscription service over the years since launching in 2011. For those who don’t know, MoviePass lets users pay a monthly price that allow them to see a single movie each day. Users check into a location-based app, pick the movie they’re seeing, and pay with an official MoviePass debit card. Over the years there have been changes in the pricing model depending on where you live and how many movies you see, ranging anywhere between $15 a month to almost $50 a month. But soon, everyone will be paying the same low price for the subscription service.

A majority stake in MoviePass has been bought by Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc., and they will be changing the monthly subscription fee to just $9.95 a month, regardless of where you live or how many movies you see. Find out more about the MoviePass subscription changes below.

This is the cheapest MoviePass has ever been, and the new low price is made possible by the fact that Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc. want to use the service as a way. Ted Farnsworth, chief executive officer at Helios and Matheson, explained to Bloomberg that the goal is to reel in a large number of customers in order to collect data on viewing behaviors in order to target advertisements and other marketing materials to subscribers, “It’s no different than Facebook or Google. The more we understand our fans, the more we can target them.”

Mitch Lowe, a Netflix co-founder and former Redbox president, has been the CEO of MoviePass for some time now, and he’s playing the long game when it comes to the company’s goals. Variety says right now MoviePass is operating at a loss while subsidizing their users with the goal of growing the movie theater audience enough for movie theater chains to take notice and share the profits with them. That shouldn’t be hard since MoviePass is accepted at pretty much every movie theater that accepts debit cards.

MoviePass is still relatively unknown among general audiences, but 75% of their customer base is made up of millennials who are quite fond of the subscription service model thanks to the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Apple Music, Spotify, etc. With a price point of just $9.95 a month and a big company to help take on the initial cost it will take to grow the customer base, MoviePass could be looking at a boom in subscribers, even if the service still doesn’t work for IMAX, 3D or other specialty formats.

For me, what’s always been great about MoviePass is how much money it saves me. Even on my $35 subscription plan, as long as I saw three or four movies a month (which is not hard for someone in my position), then I was getting my money’s worth. With a price of just $9.95, this is something that will make sense for even the most casual moviegoer. In most cases, you could see just a single movie a month and you’d still be paying less for tickets. MoviePass is especially valuable during the summer with the onslaught of blockbusters hitting theaters, or during the holidays when you’re heading to movies with the family, especially since there are no blackout dates.

As of now, it’s not clear how quickly the new subscription model will go into effect, but the new website is already advertising the $9.95 price with a two-week free trial to kick things off. So if you’re not a MoviePass subscriber, maybe now is the time to sign up. And if you are a MoviePass subscriber, just make sure your monthly charge isn’t any more than $9.95.
