‘Don Jon’ Trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Hilarious Directorial Debut About Porn Addiction

by Germain Lussier

Don Jon

Over the last few years, the world has fallen in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the actor. This October, you’ll fall in love with him as a director too. His first film, Don Jon, hits theaters October 18. It features the actor as a young ladies man from Jersey, with one major problem in life: he’s totally addicted to Internet porn. The vice dominates all aspects of his life, whether he’s dating Scarlett Johnasson, meeting Julianne Moore or hanging with father Tony Danza. Gordon-Levitt, as a director and actor, handles that awkward topic with grace, crafting a hilarious and poignant film. You can read our thoughts about it right here.

Now, you can finally get a glimpse at Don Jon yourself as the first trailer has been released. Check it out below.

Thanks to Apple.com for the trailer. Head there for it in HD or watch the embed below.

The film, formerly called Don Jon’s Addiction, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and you can click here for our thoughts and even a video blog.

This trailer is a great representation of the film. Upbeat, fun, funny, it even employs some of the editing and repetition Gordon-Levitt uses in the movie. However, there were a few scenes in there I wish weren’t in the trailer, specifically the cameos and Scarlett’s discovery. Including them makes sense, though. Don Jon was never going to be an easy movie to sell, and this trailer fires almost every bullet they have in hopes of roping everyone in.

Here’s the official plot description:

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to “pull” a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old-fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Watch Queens Of The Stone Age Cover Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”

by Stereogum

Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has always had an oblique sense of slickness, but it’s still a bit of a surprise to see him covering Robin Thicke’s irresistible bubblefunk hit “Blurred Lines.” In a recent BBC studio session, Homme and his band took the song on acoustically, with Homme mumbling a bit and flubbing some lyrics even as he was reading them from a sheet of paper. And sadly, nobody involved did any of the T.I. dances from the video. Still, Homme’s falsetto is sort of a revelation, especially in this context. Check out the video below.

DIE HARD 6 Gets A Possible Screenwriter And Title; DIE HARDEST (Seriously!)

Corey

Ah, I love these movies but you are really starting to push it.

Total Film reports that the next instalment in the Die Hard franchise - which is currently titled Die Hardest - now has a writer. Ben Trebilcook is penning a treatment which will reportedly see the story begin in New York before moving to Tokyo. According to the writer, his take "is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It's also a very plausible storyline." A Die Hard movie with a "plausible storyline"?! Surely not! Trebilcook is also confident that his take on the franchise will please fans, going so far as to describe it as "the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise." The film is still in the very early stages of production, so a lot could change between now and when the green light is officially given. Do you like the sound of this?

Watch Patrick Stickles & Diarrhea Planet Cover “Born To Run”

by Stereogum
Corey

Not bad, but more importantly the band's name is Diarrhea Planet.

I imagine Diarrhea Planet is composed completely of Chipotles.

Earlier this month, the charmingly monikered triple-guitar Nashville punk monster Diarrhea Planet played at the Brooklyn DIY venue Shea Stadium. And at the show, their friend and frequent tourmate Patrick Stickles, frontman of Titus Andronicus, joined them onstage to cover Bruce Springsteen’s immortal “Born To Run,” a song Stickles has already referenced in song. “Born To Run” is great in any context, but when it’s a mass punk-show singalong, it’s somehow even greater. Watch video below.
