Music: Great Job, Internet!: The first single from the new Against Me! record is a total punk anthem

by Marah Eakin

Against Me! has dropped the first single from its new album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues. “FUCKMYLIFE666” holds true to the group’s anthemic style and finds singer Laura Jane Grace wholeheartedly embracing her new life and reality. The track is below.

According to a press release, Transgender explores themes of “gender dysphoria, the loss of a young friend and pure self discovery, as well as love and ultimate acceptance.”

The record is out Jan. 21, 2014 via the band’s own label, Total Treble.

TV: Great Job, Internet!: Read this: Here are 71 foolproof methods to win each game featured on The Price Is Right

by Marah Eakin

The A.V. Club has investigated what happens when you actually win The Price Is Right, but Slate has an excellent piece up today that uses game theory to help prospective contestants get to that point. Writer Ben Blatt ably—and slightly confusingly, if you’re not that into math—explains how some schmo on Contestant’s Row can use high-level math to make it to the Showcase, even without knowing real life prices of items. For example:

"Consider the pricing game called Squeeze Play. Current host Drew Carey shows the contestant either a five- or six-digit number and asks the player to remove one digit from the number—first and last digit excluded—to reveal the price of a prize. Over the last eight years, this game has been played 215 times with a five-digit number, meaning the contestant can either remove the second, third, or fourth digit. If ...

Newswire: Patton Oswalt's new comedy special to premiere on Epix in January

Patton Oswalt’s new comedy special, Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time, is nigh. The special will premiere Friday, Jan. 17 on Epix, the subscription-only cable channel/VOD network that's also available online.  For those without a subscription or not technologically inclined, the special will make its basic cable premiere on Comedy Central sometime in April.

Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time was filmed at the Spreckels Theater in San Diego, under the direction by Bobcat Goldthwait. According to Epix, the new special finds Oswalt “tackling issues ranging from frozen food to the future of America,” all of which sound pretty par for the course from Oswalt (and yes, that’s a good thing).

Oswalt’s last two specials, 2009’s My Weakness Is Strong and 2011’s Finest Hour, were both nominated for Grammys in the Best Comedy Album category.

Jason Statham Will Replace Daniel Craig in ‘Layer Cake’ Sequel, ‘Viva La Madness’

by Angie Han

Jason Statham

Matthew Vaughn‘s Layer Cake was instrumental in helping Daniel Craig land the iconic role of James Bond, but nowadays Craig is so busy 007-ing that he presumably doesn’t have time for the sequel. So he’s being replaced with another glowering British badass. Jason Statham and his manager / producing partner Steve Chasman have picked up the rights to J.J. Connolly‘s book Viva La Madness, the follow-up to his Layer Cake. Hit the jump for plot details on the new story and more.

Deadline reports that although Craig’s gangster character had no name in the first film, Statham is definitely playing the same guy. While Craig was pretty great in the original Layer Cake, Statham seems like a more than acceptable replacement. He got his start on stylish British crime thrillers Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and has continued in that vein with films like The Transporter, The Bank Job, and Parker.

The plot of Connolly’s new book picks back up with the same protagonist, who still has no name. Having recovered from (uh, spoiler alert) the gunshot wound he got at the end of the first film, he decides to retire to a beach. But because in the movies, thinking you’re out is the fastest way to get pulled back in, he gets wrapped up with a high-speed plot involving international drug deals, money laundering, fraud, and all sorts of vicious, dangerous characters.

Statham next stars in Homefront, which has him playing a former DEA agent aching for a quiet life only to find himself battling a local drug kingpin. (See above about what happens whenever a character in a crime pic thinks he’s out.) He’ll appear next year in Fast & Furious 7, The Expendables 3, and the Heat remake. To mix things up, he also recently signed on to star with Melissa McCarthy in Paul Feig’s spy comedy Susan Cooper.

Everybody Channels Arnold Schwarzenegger In First Trailer For David Ayer’s Sabotage

by Linda Ge

Wow. I’ve never seen any of these guys this bulked up before, but it looks like the entire cast of David Ayer’s Sabotage has taken a cue from their leader Arnold Schwarzenegger and bench pressed the months away.

The first trailer for Ayer’s gritty take on Agatha Christie’s classic murder mystery Ten Little Indians shows a super testosterone-fueled team of DEA agents (Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington, True Blood’s Joe Manganiello and The Killing’s Mireille Enos’ sole female member among them) celebrating a big bust, only to end up dead one by one as the cartel seeks to get their money back. Or is the killer someone a little closer to home?

I can’t even explain why I am kind of dying to see this movie now, so I guess the trailer did its job. Extra bonus: It looks like Ayer left the End of Watch shaky camera aesthetic behind. Sabotage releases on January 22, 2014.

Surely nobody else could pull off quite the same feat? Well, that’s what I thought.

Now here’s a video of Channing Tatum on the set of the currently-filming 22 Jump Street.

Watch This: The Running Man is classic Arnold Schwarzenegger, for better and worse

Corey

I think this is my favorite Arnold movie.

It definitely has his best one liners.

Every day, Watch This offers staff recommendations inspired by a new movie coming out that week. This week: The release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has us thinking back on other movies about dangerous games, deadly competitions, and blood sports.

The Running Man (1987)

It’d be silly to try to make the case that The Running Man is a great movie, but as a time-capsule look at Arnold Schwarzenegger’s decade-long action-movie reign—roughly 1984 to 1994, from The Terminator to True Lies—it’s at the very least useful (not to mention ridiculous, campy fun). Based very, very loosely on the Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman) novel of the same name, The Running Man is set in the dystopian near future of 2017. Innocent soldier Ben Richards, played by Schwarzenegger, refuses to slaughter innocent civilians and is sent to a work camp, before leading an escape. Naturally he's caught, only to be ...

OutKast To Reunite In 2014

by Stereogum
Corey

David.

Earlier today, Tom speculated that OutKast might reunite for Coachella next year, and now, we get confirmation that they’ll do just that … and more. Yep, Revolt TV has confirmed the greatest musical duo of all time (arguably, that is — I’m still not sure if we’re counting Steely Dan here) are reuniting for a 2014 tour. Say it with me: OUTKAST are reuniting. OutKast ARE reuniting. OutKast are REUNITING. Crazy. Does that mean new music to follow? No idea, but I’d be inclined to guess yes. No tour dates yet, either. For now, all we’ve got is the supremely excellent news of an OutKast reunion.

TV: Great Job, Internet!: Now you can watch every single Nickelodeon show from the '90s and '00s online

by Marah Eakin

Hey, remember Rugrats? Nick Reboot, a new (and probably totally illegal) website, is now livestreaming every single show that aired on Nickelodeon in the ‘90s and ‘00s. The shows come up randomly, and you can’t really control what plays next, but today alone, the channel has episodes of Finders Keepers, The Fairly Oddparents, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rocket Power, Doug, and more on deck. It’s a time-wasting website of the highest and most dangerously nostalgic order, but it’s fun, so who cares?

Great Job, Internet!: Watch the excellent Mayor Rob Ford/Chris Farley mashup we all deserve

Corey

spectacular

The grand tragedy of the Rob Ford crack cocaine scandal and associated public relations follies—outside of Toronto, where it’s an actual political disaster—is that Chris Farley isn’t around to play the mayor on Saturday Night Live. Sure, Bobby Moynihan acquitted himself well in the cold open last weekend, but in a news cycle that had both the Ford media circus and the Richie Incognito bullying scandal in the NFL, Chris Farley has been sorely missed. But no more, since there’s now a video mash-up of all the best Rob Ford moments caught on camera—swearing up a storm, arm wrestling Hulk Hogan, running into a camera—mixed with the equivalent Farley film clip or performance on SNL. It is simply uncanny how perfectly Ford resembles the late beloved physical comedian, and since we only get to imagine what would've been one of the best hosting gigs in the past 15 ...

Searching for The Next Breaking Bad: Candidate #1 – Sons of Anarchy

by Paul
Corey

I've been saying this. If your are not watching you are missing out.

I’ve been reading a lot of articles recently about how this new “Golden Age” of TV has recently drawn to a close. According to many, it started with The Sopranos, was bolstered by the likes of The Wire and Mad Men, and now has ended courtesy of the finale of Breaking Bad, a show most […]

To whom it may concern,

I’m having a small get together at mansions around the US. I’m going to perform the album live with a band / my friends in the living room. I can’t invite everyone, so leave your name, email, phone and zip after the jump. The few people I can invite will be notified by phone so we can let you know the address.

Leave me that info here.

Thanks. See you there.

Police Respond to IKEA Assembly

by Miss Cellania

If you thought the confusion one confronts when assembling IKEA furniture was because the instructions are Swedish, this story should reassure you that they are just as baffling to Swedes as to the rest of the world. A family in Strömstad, Sweden, on the country's western coast, was assembling furniture at 1AM. The banging, or possibly the swearing, woke their baby, who began screaming. The neighbors, alarmed at the commotion, called the local police.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the couple was engaged in that most Swedish of activities, assembling Ikea furniture, and that the crying did indeed come from an infant child. It remains unclear if the baby was simply crying in need of attention, or whether it too was frustrated by the complexity of the Ikea instructions.

The police understood completely. -via Arbroath
