Things I Would Wish Upon My Enemies

by Miss Cellania

When reading the latest from Doghouse Diaries, I couldn’t help but think of the Little Jimmy Dickens song…

May the bird of paradise fly up your nose
May an elephant caress you with its toes
May your wife be plagued with runners in her hose
May the bird of paradise fly up your nose

But these modern inconveniences will do nicely.

This Deleted Scene from ‘Gravity’ Changes Everything

by Neil Miller
Gravity

Warner Bros.

Not literally everything, but figuratively everything. A newly released deleted scene from the 2013 blockbuster Gravity has been released onto the web and it’s full of shocking revelations. It’s a wonder that we hadn’t heard about this scene before, especially considering the fact that the film has already been released on Blu-ray. Perhaps Best Director winner Alfonso Cuaron and the marketing minds at Warner Bros. were waiting for just the right moment — a super special edition home video release of some kind.

Well now all that is spoiled, as it’s been leaked onto the Internet. Isn’t that how it always goes…

Watch the deleted scene for yourself below and prepare to have your mind blown:

All jokes aside, this would have been a great way for Warner Bros. to finally start to tie their movie universes together. It would’ve made us less resistant to this whole Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman movie that Zack Snyder is making. Just hand it over to Alfonso Cuaron, already.

‘The Drop’ Trailer: Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini Are on the Wrong End of a Robbery

by Russ Fischer

The Drop trailer

Bullhead director Michaël R. Roskam got to call the shots on The Drop, which scripted by Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone). You probably wouldn’t even need to have that spelled out for you, because this first The Drop trailer very much conveys the feel of films like Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone, perhaps with a bit of Killing Them Softly thrown in.

As in Killing Them Softly, here we get James Gandolfini, in his final performance, as guy who is tightly tied to a criminal lifestyle. But Gandolfini’s characters in the two films couldn’t appear to be more different — here, he’s a bar owner whose joint happens to be the cash drop point for the local mob. He and his bartender, played by Tom Hardy, end up in trouble when the place is robbed. (That poorly-chosen robbery might also act as a point of connection to Killing Them Softly.)

Check out the trailer below.

This trailer seems to show a lot, so you might want to watch only the first half.

The Drop opens on September 19. Trailer via The Playlist.

THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.

‘Chef’ Trailer: Jon Favreau Gets Hungry With Robert Downey Jr. and Sofia Vergara

by Germain Lussier

Chef trailer

Jon Favreau returns to his roots with the upcoming comedy Chef. He wrote, directed and starred in the film, which tells the story of a chef who tackles his own independent food truck after being unhappy with his more traditional restaurant job. The film is a far cry from Favreau’s latest work, the Iron Man films and Cowboys and Aliens. That’s surely by design. He hasn’t skimped on the talented cast, though, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, and Scarlett Johansson.

The film opens May 9, check out the Chef trailer below.

Thanks to Apple for the trailer. Head there to see it in High Definition. Below is an embed.

And here’s the first poster for the independent film:

Chef poster

And here’s the official plot synopsis for Chef:

When Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love.

Chef premiered at SXSW last month and buzz was mixed to positive. One thing everyone agreed on, though, was Favreau shoots food in the film like Michael Bay shoots scantily clad women. That bodes well for what seems to be a very light, sweet movie. We’ll have more on it soon.

Chef, written, directed and starring Jon Favreau, opens May 9. It co-stars Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt, Emjay Anthony, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey, Jr.

What did you think of the Chef trailer?

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:’ Fan Fixes New Turtles With Digital Plastic Surgery

by Germain Lussier

Ninja turtles fan fix

The first trailer for Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was received pretty well considering all the naysaying before the film was made. For years, fans raged online about rumored changes to their beloved comic book heroes-turned Saturday morning cartoon superstars. It turns out almost all of that venom was for naught as the trailer delivered a pretty solid tease of a film that seems very much in line with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we know and love.

Except for one, small thing.

The look of the Turtles was a big point of contention. And not the samurai inspired outfits; it was the noses. The Turtles looked super creepy, like a star after plastic surgery with a flat nose and two tiny nostrils. It’s definitely a more human look, but they’re not human. They’re turtles.

Leave it to the Internet to mess with the filmmaker’s vision. One Ninja Turtles fan tweaked the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of the new movie, and improved their faces.

Here are the before and after images of this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle digital plastic surgery via Reddit, with a hat tip to Badass Digest.

On Michaelangelo, it’s the “improved fan version” and the movie version. Then on Leonardo, it’s a “classic” look, the “improved fan version in the middle,” then the final film version.

Thoughts?

Here’s the trailer

The reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman. It stars Megan Fox, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg and opens August 8. Here’s the official synopsis:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Renewed For Two More Seasons, Will Become Second Longest Running Comedy Ever

by Penn Collins

FXX has announced that, in addition to greenlighting a smattering of other projects affiliated with the Always Sunny cast, it has renewed their bread and butter, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, for two more seasons. That renewal will take the show to 12 seasons, which is second only to My Three Sons (!) in duration.

Of course, the similarities between Sunny and My Three Sons don’t stop there.

Wait. Yes they do. They are very different shows.

According to the A.V. Club, FXX will also be picking up:

  • A Tracy Morgan show written by the three male leads of Sunny
  • Harder, co-written by Glenn Howerton
  • We’re Good, Thanks, written by the Waitress, Artemis, and Charlie

So they’re doing pretty well these days.

Netflix Streaming

April is here, but don’t let that fool you as there is another new batch of exciting and underrated titles for you to stream that Netflix has added to their instant watch options as spring slowly makes its way here. This month’s movies and television shows are sure to please once again and span the full spectrum of entertainment. From the legendary underdog story of Rocky to everyone’s favorite doctor House M.D. and the Reality TV predicting actioner The Running Man, there’s something for everyone.

With Netflix's streaming functionality being a bit difficult to navigate, it can be a challenge trying to locate all the newly added movies worth watching, so I’m cutting through the dreck and highlighting some great titles to add to your queue. Along with new releases for April, I’m adding a few leftovers culled from March 2014 not included in our original recommendations.

Newswire: Wu-Tang Clan releasing a single copy of an album you can only hear at museums

by Sean O'Neal

Never one to do things the easy way, the Wu-Tang Clan is reportedly preparing to follow the July release of A Better Tomorrow—an album that will mark the 20th anniversary of the group, as well as the fourth or fifth anniversary of members of that group being pissed at RZA —with another, double album, titled Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. However, the latter will see an appropriately bizarre release, one befitting a collective with a history of complex mythology and making things difficult for themselves: Only one copy will ever be pressed, and next to no one will be able to hear it.

In a release strategy that makes Beck’s recent distribution of sheet music look like a personalized mix-tape, the sole copy of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin will be encased inside an engraved silver-and-nickel box designed by British-Moroccan artist Yahya, then taken on a ...

Newswire: Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil is probably getting a sequel

by Caroline Siede
Corey

I liked this, but thought I would like it more.

The cult-classic horror film Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil is most likely getting a sequel. Stars Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine casually announced the news at a horror convention in Cincinnati this past week. In the video below, Tudyk reveals that producers are interested in making a sequel—something he found out only after he’d made fun of the “producer-y type guys” he mistakenly thought had squashed the idea. Labine promises the film will be just as good as the first, assuring the crowd, “Don’t worry. Alan and I will never make a shitty sequel.”

The first Tucker & Dale—which had a limited theatrical release, but earned a cult following on Netflix and home video—follows two best friends who get mistaken for “murderous backwoods hillbillies” by some preppy college students. The horror-comedy features a series of increasingly ridiculous accidental deaths as Tucker and Dale just try to ...

Newswire: Homestar Runner is back, sort of

by Marah Eakin

Homestar Runner is back—sort of. The Brothers Chaps finally relented to years of fan pressure and updated the much beloved site, just in time for April Fool’s Day. While the updates aren’t extensive—it’s basically just one long, but hilarious intro video featuring Homestar and Strong Bad—they’re something, and hopefully that should be enough for fans. Plus, in the clip, both Homestar and Strong Bad lay down some sick Windows 98 sounds now available for download. It’s really more than any fan could have hoped for, which unfortunately means that now all anyone’s going to want is more, more, more.

In the meantime, now seems as good a time as any to remind people of yesterday’s smash sensation, Random Access Fhqwhgads, an hour-long mash-up of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and Strong Bad’s classic jam “Everybody To The Limit ...

Newswire: Marvel has movies planned through 2028

by Kyle Ryan

Tucked about a third of the way into Bloomberg Businessweek’s lengthy profile of Marvel studio president Kevin Feige is note about a “map of films reaching far into the next decade” hanging on the wall of Feige’s office. Considering the comic-book studio estimates it has more than 8,000 characters to its name, how far that timeline goes shouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise, but damn:

“It’s like looking through the Hubble telescope. You go, ‘What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it,’ ” he laughs. “They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.”

So, if Marvel makes as many as five superhero movies a year, as the story suggests, for 14 years, that’s 70 movies in the pipeline. That’s a pretty bold plan for a studio that didn’t exist a decade ago. Bloomberg writer Devin Leonard goes ...

Bill Murray Knocked Out A 45-Minute Karaoke Set, And We’ve Got The Video

by Penn Collins

Bill Murray, remembering that he’s Bill Murray, and hasn’t done anything awesome in a couple days, got up at his Caddyshack restaurant and belted out songs for about 45 minutes, including the Animals “House of the Rising Sun.”

That sounds like a lot of fun and something I would like to see, even if it meant having to go to a place called the Caddyshack Restaurant. Fortunately, TMZ‘s reach knows no bounds, so they got some crappy video, which works out better for everyone.

This is a horrible idea.

That being said, I would have killed for one of these as a kid.

Your kids are going to love this Kids’ Zipline Outdoor Fun Toy. It lets you put up a zipline in your backyard, in a campground, a park, wherever you want. It supports up to 250 lbs. so all of the kids will be good to go. It even comes with a seat that’s easily removable. […]
