Obama Sent Tornadoes to Oklahoma, Is Literally X-Men's Storm Says Conspiracy Theorists

by mattbinder
D G

*almost* as stupid as MSNBC

Did you know President Obama is actually Storm from the X-Men?

Wait. YOU DIDN’T?! Then you must not know about HAARP!

HAARP stands for High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. It’s a government research effort up in Alaska “to analyze the ionosphere and investigate the potential for developing ionospheric enhancement technology for radio communications and surveillance."

HOWEVER, if you’re a conspiracy theorist (or informed non-brainwashed genius WAKE UP SHEEPLE, if you ask them), then you would know HAARP is actually a weather controlling machine that Obama used to create the devastating tornadoes that hit Oklahoma over the past few weeks!

"I’m not a crazy conspiracy theorist, I swear…but I fully believe that *insert the looniest conspiracy theory possible*"

image

image

Oh look, it’s former SNL cast member turned Tea Party crazy Victoria Jackson!

image

"I’m NOT a lunatic. I am speaking like Alex Jones." So, you are a lunatic.

image

image

lmao at people running to America’s most beloved conspiracy theorists Alex Jones and Glenn Beck for the “answer" to a natural disaster.

And, when you think of natural weather disaster, what other event comes to mind? Hurricane Sandy? Yeah, sure…

image

image

But, how about, the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut? Of course…

image

Now, let’s take a look at this next tweet:

image

"NO WAY global warming exists! But a freaking giant machine where a human being can create weather and send a tornado wherever he’d like? THIS IS TOTALLY 100% REAL."

And, like all of these tweets, here are a few more who don’t quite get weather and science:

One minute, Obama’s sending tornadoes to Oklahoma and the next, he’s taking our guns and arming tsunamis and earthquakes. So, WAKE UP SHEEPLE.

Animals Cannot Deal With Mirrors in This Hilarious Mashup

by Sam Laird
Catmirror
Feed-twFeed-fb

No matter how much we domesticate our beloved cats, dogs and other pets, their true animal souls will eternally remain in the great outdoors

Which sometimes makes the great indoors — and mirrors, in particular — a bit much to handle

That difficulty is captured to hilarious effect in a compilation video recently posted to YouTube and embedded above. Watch as cats, dogs, lizards, birds and even a peacock completely lose it in front of their own reflections

And if that's not enough, here are 10 animals walking like humans:

Sauced: Jalapeño Jam

by Joshua Bousel

20130529-253986-jalapeno-jam.jpg

[ Photographs: Joshua Bousel ]

Jalapeño jam isn't a supermarket staple where I live in New York. So when a barbecue glaze I made recently called for it, it took a bit of searching to even find a jar. When I finally did, I was stuck paying over four times what I should have. The experience left me thinking that would be the one and only jar of jalapeño jam I would ever buy...until I tasted the sauce. It added the perfect texture, sweetness, and spiciness, and I suddenly felt I could not live without. Instead of shelling out more for another bottle, I took matters into my own hands and whipped up a batch at home.

The process is pretty quick and painless: chop jalapeños and green peppers in a food processor, simmer them in vinegar and sugar to fully flavor the liquid, bring to a rolling boil, and then stir in the pectin. The resulting jam can be sealed into jars for shelf storage or transferred into a container and stored in the fridge for more immediate use—either way, it may take up to a day for the jam to fully set.

The jam had everything I loved about the first bottle I bought—a sweet start that was interrupted by the fruity heat of the jalapeños and tempered by a vinegar tang. For less than what I paid for one small bottle, I'm now the proud owner of three 16 ounce jars of this stuff for all the sauces, crackers, biscuits, and burgers it's sure to adorn.

The "grumpy cat" movie is a harbinger of the apocalypse

by Annalee Newitz

The "grumpy cat" movie is a harbinger of the apocalypse

The grumpy cat meme is getting a movie. Producers say it will be "Garfield-like." This horrific news should surprise nobody who follows Hollywood dealmaking. What might surprise you is how much this scenario resembles a dystopian scifi story called "The Waldo Moment," about how memes give rise to global fascism.

So This Guy ESTA. Is Pretty Good At Making Beats

by S.Cadet

California’s own ESTA. is no rookie when it comes to producing but I’m late to the party. Being tardy isn’t a bad thing in this case since his backlog reveals his development and versatility. Laid back grooves to party records are all fair game to him and a sample of his range is only a few words away.

Take his latest song “$auce” for example. ESTA supposedly found inspiration from Gucci Mane, a regular wizard of wordplay, and came up with what you’re hearing now. Who knows how he got from point A to point B here but the end product is quality either way. The 808 driving the kick is an especially dope touch along with the sampled Schoolboy Q ad-libs.

Maybe “$auce” is too boisterous for your tastes. Then lets switch gears to something more relaxing. “LisaBonet.” has been a personal favorite for a while not only because it refers to everyone’s favorite, odd-ball Huxtable. The track’s mellow enough but the snares and those huge claps give it a bigger sound. The song’s breezy vibes makes it just right for the summertime as well. Perhaps it’ll find its way to your seasonal playlist.

Well my case rests. What’s the word on ESTA. around these parts? Let opinions fly in the comments as usual. Check out ESTA.’s Soundcloud page if the jury’s still out.

The Single Classiest Way to Give Bacon as a Gift

by Andrew Tarantola

Cuff links, multitools, and money clips are second only to vasectomies on the list of crap wants—some bacon to go along with the, um, cuff links, multitools, and money clips.

The Oscar Mayer Original collection packages 18-20 slices of delicious porky goodness in a tasteful display box and includes one of three generic Father's Day accoutrements: The Commander set includes a stainless steel money clip engraved with bacon strip and “bringin’ it home," the Matador includes bacon-shaped cufflinks, and the Woodsman includes a small bacon-engraved multitool. All three variations retail for $22 but are temporarily sold out. Check the @OscarMayer twitter feed and Say It with Bacon for updates as to when more will be available. Just be sure to buy a backup gift—like a tie, man can't have enough ties—in case this delicious porcine present stays sold out. [Incredible Things]

Sequel Bits: ‘22 Jump Street’, ‘Transformers 4′, ‘World War Z’, ‘Machete Kills’, ‘Monsters University’

by Angie Han

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street
The still above from 21 Jump Street is an accurate representation of my reaction to the reveal that the sequel will be called 22 Jump Street. Also after the jump:

  • Check out pics from Transformers 4‘s Texas set
  • How much of Transformers 4 is set in China?
  • Freida Pinto and James Franco won’t return (duh) for more Apes
  • Marc Forster is “open” to a World War Z sequel
  • Sofia Vergara gets another Machete Kills poster
  • See a trailer for Despicable Me 2‘s “Minion Rush” game
  • Watch tons of B-roll and interviews from Monsters University

Slipped into Sony’s earlier press release about Neal Moritz’s plans to remake A Prophet was the reveal that the 21 Jump Street sequel would be titled 22 Jump Street. While 21 Jump Street 2 admittedly would’ve been an awkward title, I’m not sure 22 Jump Street makes much sense, either.

I mean, does this suggest that 22 Jump Street takes place across the street from 21 Jump Street? Or are we to understand that 22 Jump Street is the 22nd in a long-running series of Jump Street movies? Where are Jump Streets 1-20, then? I presume all will be revealed when the film opens June 13, 2014. [Sony]

With shooting for Transformers 4 currently underway in Pflugerville, Texas, a few eagle-eyed fans have noticed what appears to be more vehicles and a set from the movie.

The cars in the two pics below are too far away to reveal much detail, but some commenters on Transformers Live have noted that “one of the vehicles is nearly identical to one used in Revenge of the Fallen and the other has been IDed as a Rally Fighter.”

Transformers 4 - cars 2 Transformers 4 - cars 1

Meanwhile, On Location Vacations has posted a distant photo of what appears to be a rural set.

Transformers 4 - Pflugerville set

Despite all the images coming out of Texas, though, there’s reason to believe a lot of the film will take place in China. Marc Ganis, president of Transformers 4 co-producer Jiaflix Enterprises, has said that “Effectively, China is a character” in the movie since “so much” of it takes place in the country.

And according to him, that’ll be true no matter what country you watch it in — unlike Iron Man 3 or Looper, Transformers 4 won’t have a special China-only edit. “There is going to be a single version worldwide with a very significant Chinese component,” he said.

What “very significant” means is open to interpretation, though. And Transformers 4 is spending a lot of time shooting in the U.S. as well as China. In any case, the film opens June 27, 2014. [Xinhua via Transformers Live]

Matt Reeves has a promising cast lined up for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but James Franco and Freida Pinto won’t be part of it. “The sequel’s on, but we’re not in it,” Pinto confirmed in a recent interview. “It’s a whole new cast. It would have been great to [do the sequel], but I don’t know how they would bring our characters back in.”

Pinto’s update shouldn’t come as much of a shock. Franco, at least, was expected to appear in the sequel when Rupert Wyatt was still attached to direct, but said last December that he hadn’t spoken with anyone since Reeves boarded. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes premieres May 23, 2014. [Digital Spy]

Marc Forster and Brad Pitt could be ready to face even more zombie hordes if World War Z does well. At the film’s London premiere, Forster stated that he’d be “open to a sequel” in the future.

“There is so much in that book, and we have plenty of ideas,” he said. “If this one works we certainly have plenty of ideas.” That’s a big if at this point, but fans can keep their fingers crossed when the first World War Z hits theaters June 21. [Hey U Guys]

Robert Rodriguez‘s Machete Kills has gotten tons of mileage out of that image of Sofia Vergara with bullet-spewing boobs, but it turns out that deadly bra isn’t her only weapon. A second poster for her character Desdemona shows her wielding a couple of whips as well. Kinky.

Machete Kills opens September 13.

The release of Monsters University is only two and a half weeks away at this point, but if you simply can’t wait that long to learn all about the film, a crap ton of B-roll and cast interviews have just hit the web.

There are so many new videos, in fact, that I’m not going to bother to put them all here. You can watch see director Dan Scanlon and leads John Goodman and Billy Crystal chat about the movie below; for other stars and filmmakers including Alfred Molina, Aubrey Plaza, Bobby Moynihan, Charlie Day, Helen Mirren, Nathan Fillion, and Steve Buscemi just click over to Trailer Addicts. Be warned that their B-roll videos may contain spoilers.

Microsoft shows off Windows 8.1 Start button, other upgrades in video

by Peter Bright
D G

FFS MS, you gonna start charging for service packs now since you're trying to be so much like Apple?

First look at Windows 8.1

If you want to know what the Start button will look like in Windows 8.1 when it ships later this year, Microsoft now has a video to show you.

The video highlights a bunch of the user interface changes that Windows 8.1 makes. In it, Jensen Harris of the Windows User Experience Team demonstrates the richer customization options, the better All Apps view, and the more flexible multitasking.

In addition to making the division between applications in the side-by-side multitasking view flexible (as distinct from Windows 8's fixed sizes), Windows 8.1 also uses the split view automatically in some circumstances. For example, Harris demonstrates opening an image attached to an e-mail. The image does open in the photo viewer. But rather than completely obscuring the mail app, it instead shrinks the mail app to a narrow strip with the picture occupying most, but not all, of the screen.

Pew Surveys 39 Countries

by Joe
From the survey report:
Attitudes about homosexuality have been fairly stable in recent years, except in South Korea, the United States and Canada, where the percentage saying homosexuality should be accepted by society has grown by at least ten percentage points since 2007. These are among the key findings of a new survey by the Pew Research Center conducted in 39 countries among 37,653 respondents from March 2 to May 1, 2013. The survey also finds that acceptance of homosexuality is particularly widespread in countries where religion is less central in people’s lives. These are also among the richest countries in the world. In contrast, in poorer countries with high levels of religiosity, few believe homosexuality should be accepted by society.

Retrotechtacular: How I wrote Pitfall for the Atari 2600

by Mike Szczys

how-I-programmed-pitfall

This week we’re taking another departure from the ordinarily campy videos featured in the Retrotechtacular section. This time around the video is only two years old, but the subject matter is from the early 1980′s. [David Crane], designer of Pitfall for the Atari 2600 gave a talk at the 2011 Game Developer’s Conference. His 38-minute presentation rounds up to a full hour with the Q&A afterwards. It’s a bit dry to start, but he hits his stride about half way through and it’s chock-full of juicy morsels about the way things used to be.

[David] wrote the game for Activision, a company that was started after game designers left Atari having been told they were no more important  than assembly line workers that assembled the actual cartridges. We wonder if any heads rolled at Atari once Pitfall had spent 64-weeks as the number one worldwide selling game?

This was a developer’s panel so you can bet the video below digs deep into coding challenges. Frame buffer? No way! The 2600 could only pump out 160 pixels at once; a single TV scan line. The programs were hopelessly synced with the TV refresh rate, and were even limited on how many things could be drawn within a single scan line. For us the most interesting part is near the end when [David] describes how the set of game screens are nothing more than a pseudo-random number generator with a carefully chosen seed. But then again, the recollection of hand optimizating the code to fit a 6k game on a 4k ROM is equally compelling.

If you like this you should take a look at an effort to fix coding glitches in Atari games.
