I’ve already featured Medieval Loki‘s unbelievably gorgeous armor from Prince Armory in the past, but these photos are so good that I just had to post them.

Apparently Prince armory is currently in the process of building a medieval Darth Vader suit, and if the quality of the armor is similar to this one, we’re all in for a treat when it finally comes out!

My life just keeps getting more and more surreal.

I thought it was pretty odd last year, when the GAME OF THRONES - inspired Halloween costumes offered for sale on the internet included not only Jon Snow, Dany, Melisandre, and other characters from the show, but also one based on me.  Whoever heard of dressing up as a writer for trick or treating?  I've never seen a Stephen King costume, a Scott Fitzgerald costume, a Herman Melville costume.  But there it was, a George R.R. Martin.  "It can't get any weirder than this," I thought.

Hoo boy, was I wrong about that.

This year, believe it or not, PLAYBOY has unveiled a "Sexy George R.R. Martin" costume.



I can't say that I've ever had a thing for bearded women, but I have to confess, Sexy George R.R. Martin is... er... sexy.  But there is something deeply disturbing about being turned on by yourself.  Stranger than incest.  Or even twincest.

För drygt ett år sedan kom ett koncept från Dave Hakkens för modulära mobiler, kallat Phonebloks. Knappt två månader senare berättade vid den tidpunkten Google-ägda Motorola att de arbetat på en liknande idé under en längre tid.

Satsningen heter Project Ara och blev kvar hos Google efter att Lenovo köpt upp Motorola. Nu har Phonebloks varit och kollat in första prototypen för Project Ara. I videon nedan får vi en titt på ingenjörernas arbete och på fungerande prototyper.

Den modulära, uppgraderingsbara mobilen kommer i början av nästa år.

Genom pressrelease vet vi nu att svenska priset för Honor 6 är 2999 kronor. Honor berättar att telefonen lanseras på ett annorlunda vis. Precis som OnePlus undviker Honor dyra reklamkampanjer och butiksförsäljning utan satsar istället på att tillhandahålla ovanligt mycket hårdvara för pengarna.

Honor 6 kommer inte vara tillgänglig i fysiska butiker. Istället säljs mobilen av onlineåterförsäljaren Komplett redan idag. Enligt Komplett förväntas enheten finnas i lager andra november, det vill säga på söndag. Det är möjligt att fler onlinebutiker kommer saluföra Honor 6.

Telefonen är mycket prisvärd på pappret. För 3000kr får kunder 3GB RAM, ett väl tilltaget 3100mAh-batteri, LTE kategori 6, en åttakärnig processor, en 13MP-kamera, 16GB lagring och minneskortsplats. Batteriet sägs räcka i två dagar, precis som för Sony Xperia Z3 och Z3 Compact.

Skärmen är fem tum stor med Full HD-upplösning och sägs vara täckt av en yta som minimerar fingeravtryck och gör skärmen len och skön att använda. Hur bra Honor 6 är i praktiken ska vi förstås utreda i vårt test. Är det några som är sugna på att slå till?

Sony-specifika bloggen XperiaBlog rapporterar att vissa Xperia-telefoner med KitKat-firmware kan innehålla ”spyware” från Baidu. För de drabbade finns en mapp kallad ”baidu” på interna lagringsutrymmet. Mappen sägs inte gå att radera och är del av originalfirmware.

Enligt utsago skapas Baidu-mappen av Sonys tjänst ”My Xperia” varje gång en nätverksanslutning aktiveras. De drabbade enheterna påstås kommunicera med kinesiska servrar. Vilken typ av information som skickas är oklart.

Baidu är ett kinesiskt internetföretag som bland annat tillhandahåller en sökmotor. Det behöver naturligtvis inte vara så illa som det kanske låter men det hela framstår som något suspekt. Vi har en ”baidu”-mapp på vår Xperia Z3 som innehåller undermapparna ”pushservice” och ”hybrid”.

Förhoppningsvis kommer Sony snart meddela vad Baidu har för funktion och varför enheterna kommunicerar med kinesiska servrar. En fråga till Xperia-ägare (och de med andra telefoner för den delen): Har ni en ”baidu”-mapp på internminnet?

Uppdatering: Vi kunde radera mappen utan problem på Xperia Z3. Efter omstart var dock mappen tillbaka. Mappen tycks även finnas på en rad telefoner från andra tillverkare.

Problemet sägs bero på att Samsung inte bekräftar att kommandot att fjärrlåsa en enhet kommer från rätt källa.

NIST har ett bedömningssystem för hur problemetatiska säkerhetsbrister är och ger luckan 7,8/10 i allvarlighetsgrad. Samsung har ännu inte kommenterat saken men kunder som vill känna sig säkra kan helt enkelt inaktivera företagets egna finesser för att hantera förlorade enheter.

Remember the character of Radar O’Reilly in M*A*S*H*?  Not the later naive Iowa farm boy he turned into, but the astute and wily operator we’re initially introduced to – the clever contriver who could always manage to get his hands on the most elusive of items: chocolates, meds, a jeep.  If you needed something, Radar was the guy to call on.  Well, I’ve got a feeling that Elliot Sokolsky is our Radar O’Reilly. Sure, his official title is Development and Business Affairs Coordinator, but I suspect that’s just a cover designation.  “When you want to know the secret way home, come see me,”he told me on my first day in the office, dangling that speedy backstreet shortcut like a black market ham.  Whenever I walk by his office, he’s either on the phone or deeply engrossed in some unseen online task (ie. ensuring that shipment of llamas gets through customs).  And, curiously, no matter where he’s looking, or how far outside his office I may be loitering, he always seems to sense my presence, like a clairvoyant detecting the energy of dawdling spirits.  I suspect I may have cause to call on his unique skill set at several points during my stay here.  Especially come episode 9 when I’ll need to get my hands on those rare albino meerkats.

It's official.

I'm one of those lame-ass bloggers who posts consistently for awhile (every weekday for 2+ years!), then cuts back to a couple posts a week, then sorta vanishes from the universe (2 months since my last post).

I notice I mentioned the number "two" three times in that last sentence, which I swear wasn't deliberate. But now that I see it, I can say that probably had a bit to do with my absence from the blogosphere. While Gweneth Paltrow was consciously uncoupling, my gentleman friend and I were consciously coupling.

Very consciously.

When two people who make a living with words decide to tie the knot, everything from the vows to the wording of the ceremony requires careful consideration.

Then you forget all the words anyway, because you're too busy chopping onions for the reception feast and hauling cedar planter boxes filled with the wedding flowers you decided to grow yourself.

In any case, our perfectly imperfect wedding was wonderful and sweet and everything we ever wanted. Since I wasn't able to invite most of you, I offer you the next best thing. If you've got 18 minutes to kill, grab a glass of champagne and sit back to watch our wedding video:


In case you're wondering, we really did kick things off with "Eye of the Tiger" preceding the ceremony. Also, that song playing when we walk down the aisle? That's my gentleman friend performing his twist on Ben Folds' "The Luckiest."

For those who hate watching videos (*raises hand*) or those who don't have 18 minutes to spare, I'll at least throw you a bone (*snicker*) with a transcript of the vows.

While we decided to write our own and did some of our initial research and brainstorming together, we opted not to share our vows with each other until the ceremony. We were surprised by how well they fit together, which seems like a good sign, don't you think?

Tawna's Vows:
Craig: I pledge to be your loving friend, paddleboarding partner, dog-walking companion, kitchen cohort, naked alarm clock, wine tasting co-pilot, and wife. I vow to always hold you in the highest regard to be a source of empathy, laughter, hot meals, and other hot stuff. I will lend you strength for your dreams, cherish your unique quirks and talents, and always remember that love means saying “I feel differently” instead of “you’re wrong.”

Cedar and Violet: I promise to continue to love you as my own family as I officially become your dad’s wife and a member of your elite parenting team. I pledge to take you out to skip rocks and squish mud between our bare toes, to float the river in the middle of a workday (though maybe not during a lightning storm this time). I vow to continue introducing you to weird foods for Fear Factor Friday, to occasionally embarrass you with boob jokes, and to do my best to make you smile at least as often as you do that for me.

Craig, I vow to never stop encouraging us to try new and strange things. I’ll spend every day of my life appreciating you for your contagious humor, your spontaneous serenades, your beautiful hands, your beautiful mind, and your beautiful heart. I will support you through the good stuff and the not-so-good stuff, through my incessant chatter in the mornings and through your need to watch cat videos on YouTube at 3 a.m. I pledge to treat you with caring, compassion, and respect, even when you curse my undisciplined dog or give me stinkeye over my neurotic need to plan and fret about every insignificant detail of our lives together (including this wedding).

Most of all, I promise to love you always. Let’s grow old disgracefully together.

Gentleman Friend's Vows:
Tawna, I take you to be nothing other than yourself, loving you for who you are and for what you add to my life and to the world at large. I choose you as my wife, in spite of your bad driving, your chronic worrying, and your incessant chatter first thing in the morning while I’m still trying to figure out who the hell you are. I offer my imperfect self to you, relying on my strengths and my love to support you and all your dreams, to respect your unique quirks and talents (and there are many), and to listen when you need to be heard… unless I’m cognitively incapable. I’ll even ask you on occasion, “Is there more?” I believe in you and I trust what our future will bring us.

I could go on and on about the symbolism in our rings, or the adorable toast my 8-year-old stepdaughter surprised me with, but how about we just move on to one more piece of business?

That's the other thing that's been keeping me kinda busy these last couple months, and will continue to do so as I scramble to make my November deadline.
