Shawndraka Mack has been working in fast food for the past 18 years. For the last six years, she’s worked for $7.60 an hour at a McDonald’s restaurant in South Carolina.
“I love what I do, but I don’t want to work for nothing,” she told Bloomberg Businessweek. “I want to work for something.”
Mack gets $345 a month in foot stamps. She lives in a mobile home about an hour away from Charleston with her fiancé and two teenagers.
She makes enough to cover her basic necessities, including gas for her commute and electricity.
What’s left over isn’t very much. Mack brings her lunch with her to work every day.
“I work at McDonald’s and I can’t afford to eat there,” she says. “It’s crazy.”
Mack is now part of an effort to bring fast food wages to a minimum $15 an hour.

Why Upgrading Your RAM Is No Longer a Silver Bullet
As an atheist who doesn't deface money, I'll admit to being annoyed at your response to the atheist/agnostic distinction. Many of us regard agnosticism as a matter of epistemology while using faith, or the lack thereof, in a supreme being as a barometer for the purposes of being a theist/atheist. I find many people who claim the label of agnostic are actually atheists, in that they don't believe in a god, who are attempting to avoid confrontation by using a more innocuous label.
OakfairyKommer att tänka på det här med feminism/jämställdism, av nån anledning... :)
I deface money all the time. Sometimes I will just draw a beard on the president. If the president already has a beard, I will add a top hat. And while I don’t scratch out “In God We Trust” I do cross out the T so it says “In God We Rust.” My hope is that it will make some people paranoid about divine oxidation.
I will admit to being annoyed by your response to my response. I think you purposely use big words because you want to seem smarter and superior to those who aren’t like you. Epistemology? A large vocabulary should be used to add flourish to your writing, to make descriptions more vivid… not to make yourself look super duper smart. Intellectualism is a passion for knowledge, not showing off how much you know.
People should be allowed to define themselves. It isn’t up to you to label them. It isn’t up to you to judge their reasons for choosing a label. If they feel more comfortable with the term agnostic, then that’s what they are. Maybe they truly are doubtful and that fits them best, or maybe they need something more innocuous. Not everyone is comfortable with confrontation. Have you ever had a panic attack from social anxiety? Preferring safety is not some flaw to be looked down upon.
I sincerely hope you are not confronting agnostics, spewing big words at them, and telling them they are a farce. Find comfort in your own beliefs and respect the terms people use to define themselves.
What's the difference between agnostic and atheist?
One uses a sharpie to cross out “In God We Trust” on all their money and the other just puts a question mark beside it.

Sascha Reingking som tog fotot upptäckte inte den gamle Scrubs-räven förrän när hon satte sig för att redigera bildserien. Då skickade hon bilden till Braffs twitter med orden:
"Sir, I think you photobombed my newlywed couple the other day in New York. :) Well played."Braff svarade:
"This is one of my best photobombs ever!"
