Evolution of Lara Croft Through the Years

by Steve Napierski
Paul Brownlee

Wasn't much of a Tomb Raider fan either

I'm going to be completely honest with you, I've never been a fan of the Tomb Raider series. Just with other popular franchises, like the Metal Gear Solid series, these titles just don't appeal to me. I know Tomb Raider games aren't as jerky and restrictive with their movement as they were on the original Playstation, but eh.

Look I've tried, but... Yeah, it's just not for me. I guess Lara Croft and Tomb Raider are better left for the professional. At least in my case.

Gunman Clive 2, way more for eShop ⊟

Nintendo is either coming out swinging or made a mistake, because there’s a million Wii U/3DS eShop trailers on the YouTube channel right now, a day before its E3 conference! Go look! (Via @stealth__)

I’m not linking to individual trailers in case it is a mistake and they get taken down (then I’d have a bunch of useless links!) but here’s the list of stuff:

3DS: Moon Chronicles episode 2, Thorium Wars, Starwhal (AWESOME!), Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal World Dual Carnival (retail), Tappingo 2, Citizens of Earth, Blast ‘em Bunnies, Phoenix Wright Trilogy, Woah Dave!

Wii U: ANNE, Wooden Sen’SeY, Teslagrad, Nihilumbra, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 (retail), Pier Solar, One Piece Unlimited World Red (retail), Cubemen 2, Chromophore: The Two Brothers Directors Cut, Armillo, Chariot, 6180 the moon, Tengami.

What’s up E3.

…and PS4, Mac, and PC. Strangely, there’s no listed date for the 3DS release, though I’m guessing it’s that Thursday. I’ll ask Nicalis!

Anyway, the game retails for $14.99 – with a $5 discount on Steam if you have Cave Story or NightSky, and a Cross-Buy deal on the PlayStation platforms.

sweet ass gif

Lost Woods Link & ZANT?! Oh my God, the yaoi and slash fiction communities are going to have a field day with this.

I really like this animation, I just wish that if Link was that tiny he would have had the Minish Cap on his head. Minor gripe.

Imagine the Simpsons, Mortal Kombat, McDonald’s, Mega Man,...

by ericisawesome

Imagine the Simpsons, Mortal Kombat, McDonald’s, Mega Man, and Seinfeld as an old Taito game ⊟

You’d get something close to this set of adorable sprites by pixel master Paul Robertson (Mercenary Kings, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game). Robertson explains, “Bubble Bobble was the first game I ever played in the arcades and it pretty much decided what my career was going to be. So I thought I’d try out some Taito inspired characters. There’s 100 all up.” That Mayor McCheese tho.

It's Time For the Descent Games Return

by Soulskill
Paul Brownlee

I'd be pleased by this. I sucked at them, but I quite enjoyed the Descent games.

An anonymous reader writes "Gamers of a certain age will probably remember Descent, a game that combined first-person shooters with flight sims in a way that has never really been replicated. GameSpot has an article calling for a new entry in the Descent series, and it reminded me of all the stomach-churning battles I had as a kid (when the game wasn't bringing my 33MHz 486 to its knees). 'Here's where modern gaming innovations make Descent an even more tempting reboot. From the two-dimensional mines of Spelunky to the isometric caves of Path of Exile, procedurally generated levels help deliver fresh experiences to players in a number of genres. The mines of Descent would be perfect candidates for such creation, and they wouldn't have to be limited to the metallic walls and lunar geology of past Descent games. Imagine exploring organic tunnels carved by some unknown alien creature, or floating past dazzling crystalline stalactites in pristine ancient caves. Perhaps the influences of Red Faction and Minecraft could also come into play as you bored your own shortcuts through layers of destructible sediment. All of Descent's dizzying navigation challenges could be even more exciting with the immersive potential of a virtual reality headset like the Oculus Rift or the Sony Morpheus. Feeling the mine walls close in on you from all sides could get your heart racing, and turning your head to spot shortcuts, power-ups, or delicate environmental details could greatly heighten the sense of being an explorer in an uncharted land.'"
