If Donald Trump Was 30 Rock's Jenna Maroney

by Jill Harness

I know. Every time we mention Donald Trump we anger his fans who seem to think there is nothing funny at all about a former reality TV star running for president. The fact is, we're not trying to be political. We just share things that we think are funny -and seeing Donal Trump partnered up with quotes from 30 Rocks' character Jenna Maroney is just plain funny.

Or at least, I think it's funny. And if you agree, you can find more on the Donald Maroney Tumblr.

Video: Watch the epic UFC 196 fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor

by MMAjunkie Staff

The rematch is just weeks away, so ahead of the second fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, watch the duo’s first meeting.

Back in March at UFC 196, lightweight Diaz (19-8 MMA, 12-8 UFC) stepped in as a late replacement and fought featherweight champion McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a non-title welterweight bout. Diaz upset McGregor, and after a brief holdout from the champ and months of trash-talk, they’re now slated for a big-money rematch – again at welterweight.

UFC 202 airs on pay-per-view on Aug. 20 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Check out the original meeting above.

Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword Trailer Is Incredibly Guy Ritchie

by Patrick Dane
Corey

Ehhhhhhhhhh

It’s been a fair while since we had a good old fashioned King Arthur movie. They used to be a staple, but the last major stab at the legend is quite some time ago.

It’s nice to see a return though, and thanks to Warner Bros.’ SDCC panel today, we have our first look at Guy Ritchie‘s stab. With Charlie Hunnam as the title star, I’ll leave it up to you as to how he fits here.

This certainly feels incredibly Guy Ritchie.

Give it a look:

‘High Maintenance’ Trailer: HBO Examines the Life of a Pot Dealer in New York City

by Jack Giroux

HBO High

High Maintenance is coming to HBO. Created by Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, the web series has already released 19 episodes about a nameless weed dealer who resides in Brooklyn, and HBO will make all of those past episodes available before the new season starts. Sinclair stars in the series, which shows him coming in and out of the lives of his customers — some of them played by recognizable faces like Dan Stevens (The Guest) — in every episode.

Below, watch the High Maintenance trailer.

Over a year ago, HBO ordered six episodes of High Maintenance. Before they got involved in the show, each episode was made for under $1,000. The comedy, which started in 2012, has been written and directed almost entirely by Blichfeld and Sinclair, who are also married. Blichfeld won an Emmy for casting 30 Rock, while Sinclair has appeared in a variety of shows and movies. He also edits High Maintenance.

Here’s the High Maintenance trailer (Source: EW):

Unlike the webisodes, which ranged from five minutes to 15 minutes, each of the six new episodes from HBO is 30 minutes in length. But based on the trailer, the show has the former web series’ loose structure and mellow vibe. If you never watched High Maintenance on Vimeo, then you can soon watch all previous episodes on HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now. They’ll be made available on September 1st, so there will be over two weeks to catch up before the new episodes air.

The new trailer is just as charming as the teaser we saw back in June. High Maintenance is one of the promising shows HBO has coming up. In addition to Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair’s series, the highly anticipated but slightly troubled Westworld and a potentially delightful comedy about a divorce, titled Divorce, are coming to the cable network this fall.

Here’s the official synopsis for High Maintenance:

Providing a glimpse into the homes and routines of eccentric New Yorkers, the comedy series HIGH MAINTENANCE explores the private lives of these unique individuals through a common thread: their weed deliveryman. Ben Sinclair stars as The Guy, whose client base includes a group of characters with neuroses as diverse as the city.

HIGH MAINTENANCE was created by the married duo of Katja Blichfeld (Emmy®-winning casting director of “30 Rock”) and Ben Sinclair (“Sisters,” “The Big C”), who write and direct every episode of the new season, and executive produced by Katja Blichfeld, Ben Sinclair and Russell Gregory.

High Maintenance premieres on HBO on September 16th at 11 pm.

Zip ties are supposedly some of the hardest restraints to escape from, which is why cops and security personnel around the world use them to catch perps in the field.

But cops aren't the only ones who use zip ties to restrain- scumbags and criminals do too, and knowing how to easily and safely break out of zip ties could be a life saver some day.

So watch this video by Daily Mail and learn how to free yourself from that little plastic band in a snap!

So all it takes is a strong, direct motion to snap zip ties in half, I wonder if there are stronger grades of zip ties that are more resistant to snapping?

Max Marks On Bringing Wolf Cop To Comics

by Dan Wickline
Corey

Dool this is on Netflix.

Lonely Boy Theater nominee.

There are certain concepts that stand on their own. Snakes on a Plane for example. As well as the 2014 horror comedy film Wolf Cop. Now Dynamite is making a comic series of Wolf Cop and Byron Brewer talked with writer Max Marks about the first issue on sale in October.

WolfCop01CovABYRON BREWER: Max, tell me how it feels to be writing this new comic based on the 2014 horror comedy film. Were you a fan of the werewolf police picture?

MAX MARKS: I’ve been involved in the production of WolfCop since it got picked up by the CineCoup Film Accelerator in 2013. Since then I’ve seen it go from a short trailer and some great proof of concept makeup/VFX to a full fledged franchise with an awesome cult following. Even before it was a movie, I knew I wanted to bring this character into comics. A werewolf with a gun who gets powered up by bourbon? I mean, come on! In a word, it’s exciting.

So yeah, I’d say I’m one of WolfCop’s biggest fans. Maybe a close second after that guy who got a WolfCop tattoo on his arm.

BB: What can you tell us about the storyline of the series?

MM: This storyline runs somewhere between [the films] WolfCop 1 and 2. When discussing the comic, WolfCop creator Lowell Dean expressed to me that he’d love to see WolfCop on the road, dealing with threats outside of Woodhaven. So it begins there, with Lou Garou exiled from his hometown. The road he’s on … Well, picture if Mad Max were based in Saskatchewan. Aside from drinking and crimefighting, Lou is very good at getting himself into trouble. A recurring theme in WolfCop is that the blood of a werewolf is a valuable thing.

Each issue definitely has a bit of a “Monster of the Week” feel to it, with WolfCop fighting some monsters that we’d never be able to get onto a film of WolfCop’s budget, but there’s an underlying arc of WolfCop’s travels and eventual return to Woodhaven.

BB: For those familiar with the film, what will we see reflected from the movie in the new book? Any characters crossing over with your main protagonist?

MM: The first thing fans of the film will notice and likely be a bit confused by is that WolfCop’s sidekick, Willie Higgins, who died at the end of WolfCop, has returned. There’s something strange about him, but how he’s come back is a bit of a mystery that gets alluded to over the course of the series. We also see the secondary protagonist, Tina Walsh, make an appearance.

I think we did a good job of getting across everything people loved about the film. The gore, the action, the ‘80s throwbacks and subtle references to Canadiana… It’s all in there.

BB: Tell us about Police Officer Lou Garou as a character, including (for the uninitiated) how he found himself in his current … er uh, “hairy” situation.

MM: Lou Garou seems like a simple kind of guy. He’s a small town cop who doesn’t really care about his job. His dad used to be Woodhaven’s chief of police before he died under mysterious circumstances, but being in his father’s shadow really only motivated him to not try so hard. He’s an unapologetic alcoholic and a bit of a slacker, and mostly lets his partner Tina do all the tough police work.

Basically, he’s a loser who nobody really expects much from. And the shadowy group that controls Woodhaven has a generational ritual where they find guys like him and force them into a black magic ritual that turns them into werewolves for a ritual sacrifice. The idea is to find someone who is easy to control, and who the town won’t really raise an eyebrow at losing.

What they didn’t count on was that becoming a werewolf would suddenly bring out the best in Lou. When he’s wolfed out, he declares himself “WolfCop” and suits up to fight Woodhaven’s underworld with more motivation than he’s ever shown in his life. What’s more, the heavy drinking doesn’t stop him – in fact, in this world, alcohol actually makes werewolves stronger. So this apathetic drunk of a cop suddenly has the power to make a difference in his town. And like we say sometimes, it teaches him to be a better man… one transformation at a time.

BB: Can you tell us about Woodhaven and some of its denizens (and perhaps some that will come as part of this series)?

MM: Woodhaven is one of those small towns that seems to be mostly untouched by the world around it. There’s a feeling that the place never really left the 1980s. The people there are simple, salt-of-the-earth types with a weird streak and a love for booze. The favorite place for locals to get a late night snack is a chain store called “Liquor Donuts” and you can guess what they serve. Their annual hunting festival is called the “Drink and Shoot” where locals get hammered and go out in the woods with rifles to hunt down a legendary beast called the “Walking Bear.”

What most people there don’t realize is that Woodhaven was founded and controlled by a shadowy cadre of shapeshifters who use it as a front to create werewolves and ritualistically harvest their blood. Or they did, until WolfCop had anything to say about it.

Most of Lou’s friends turned out to be less than trustworthy over the course of the film. But he does have one person he can rely on, and that’s his partner Tina Walsh, the brains and police competence behind the dirty, hairy muscle that is WolfCop.

As I mentioned, for most of the comic WolfCop is on the road, in an area called “Woodhaven County” with its own quirks. He does return to Woodhaven eventually, and when he does, he’s forced to deal with the reality that when you kill the shadowy overlords of a town, you leave a power vacuum that sometimes makes things even worse. Hard times have fallen on Woodhaven.

BB: Does Lowell Dean, writer and director of the WolfCop film, play any role as to story in the new Dynamite comic?

MM: Lowell has been involved every step of the way on this. Whenever I finish a script I send it to him for notes. I’m pretty familiar with the world of WolfCop and its characters now, but there are certain things that only the evil genius behind its creation can give you: Ways the characters talk, the extent of how strong he is, that kind of thing. The initial premise to take WolfCop out of Woodhaven and into the wider world was Lowell’s as well, as I mentioned before. WolfCop was his brainchild, and it’s very important to me that everything we put out is consistent with his initial and continuing vision for the character.

BB: How has it been working with Arcana Studios on the art chores?

MM: Arcana Studios has been a total pleasure to work with. Since our first meeting about making this happen, Arcana CEO Sean O’Reilly has been awesome at streamlining the process every step of the way. The art we’ve got just screams “WolfCop” on so many levels.

BB: Max, any projects current or near-future you’d like to tell us about?

MM: Well, it’s been going around that WolfCop 2 is shot and we’re rolling that out hopefully close to the comics. CineCoup media also completed its first non-WolfCop film this year, which is called Hellmington and should be seeing a release around the same time as WolfCop 2. It’s also a horror film, but with much more of a suspense thriller vibe. It’s not WolfCop, but it will have a feel to it that, once you’ve seen it, you’ll understand that there’s a particular vibe our studio is going for that goes beyond genre.

As far as comics, I don’t have any other projects underway quite yet. But I’ve got to say, having written for almost every other medium in some way, this one was by far my favorite. I’ve always been a huge fan of comics as a consumer, but being involved in the process is something entirely different in the best way imaginable. I’m excited to keep contributing to it both for WolfCop and beyond.

Another George R.R. Martin TV Series Is in the Works

by Angie Han

Wild Cards

HBO recently confirmed that Game of Thrones has just two seasons left to go, but if it’s any comfort, fans of George R.R. Martin can look forward to seeing more of his stories on the small screen. The author has announced that his long-running anthology series Wild Cards is now in development for television, with Star Trek: The Next Generation writer/producer Melinda M. Snodgrass and RED producer Gregory Noveck.

Martin announced the news himself on his LiveJournal page.

Universal Cable Productions (UCP) has acquired the rights to adapt our long-running Wild Cards series of anthologies and mosaic novels for television. Development will begin immediately on what we hope will be the first of several interlocking series. Melinda M. Snodgrass, my assistant editor and right-hand man on Wild Cards since its inception, the creator of Dr. Tachyon, Double Helix, and Franny Black, and a seasoned television writer/ producer whose credits include STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (“Measure of a Man”), REASONABLE DOUBTS, THE PROFILER, and STAR COMMAND, is attached as an executive producer on the project, together with Gregory Noveck of RED, Slow Learner, and SyFy Films

Universal Cable Productions is a division of NBCUniversal, and their recent hits include USA’s Mr. Robot and Colony, Syfy’s The Magicians and 12 Monkeys, and Hulu’s Difficult People.

Wild Cards takes place in alternate timeline that diverged from ours in 1946, when an alien virus hit our planet. Called the “Wild Card” virus because of its unpredictable effects, it immediately killed 90% of infected humans. Another 9% were transformed into “jokers” with deformations or disabilities, and 1% became “aces” with extraordinary abilities. The universe contains dozens of significant characters spread across hundreds of stories, but Martin specifically promised that a certain key figure will make it to the screen: “You will be seeing Croyd Crenson, no matter shape the eventual show or shows ends up taking. It wouldn’t be Wild Cards without the Sleeper.”

The first volume of Wild Cards was published in 1986 and another 21 have been published to date, with #23 hitting shelves later this summer. Martin and Snodgrass oversee the Wild Cards series as its editors, but a number of different authors have contributed stories including Chris Claremont, Victor Milan, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck, and Carrie Vaughn. The franchise so far consists of books, comics, and games, and Martin describes it as being “as large and diverse and exciting as the comic book universes of Marvel and DC (though somewhat grittier, and considerably more realistic and more consistent).”

Martin estimates that Wild Cards could come to television “in the next year or two,” but acknowledges that “nothing is ever certain in development.” Still, this project has a lot working in its favor already. While Martin isn’t directly involved (he has an exclusive development deal with HBO), his association with the source material should give the Wild Cards show a boost. Plus, the premise fits neatly with the current craze for superhero shows. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one as it develops, so watch this space.

‘Luke Cage’ Trailer: Netflix’s Marvel Universe Ventures Into Harlem

by Angie Han

Luke Cage trailer

Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones were based in Hell’s Kitchen, but perhaps after realizing that a neighborhood of one square mile can only sustain so many superheroes at a time, Netflix’s next Marvel hero is headed uptown. Luke Cage picks back up with the unbreakable badass we last saw in Jessica Jones. Nowadays, though, his concern is protecting his neighborhood of Harlem.

The show promises to feature a few familiar faces, like Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and of course Mike Colter as Luke Cage. But he’ll be making some new friends as well, like Simone Missick‘s Misty Knight, and facing off against a number of baddies including Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), Shades (Theo Rossi), and Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard, playing a completely different MCU character from the one we saw in Captain America: Civil War). Watch the latest Luke Cage trailer below.

Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Coker has emphasized the “musicality” of the show, promising appearances by Raphael SaadiqFaith Evans, and Charles Bradley, not to mention new songs by artists like Jidenna. You can see and hear such musical influences throughout the Luke Cage trailer. One of the most striking shots in the entire trailer is the one of Cottonmouth standing just so in front of his Biggie photograph, so that it looks like the crown is sitting on his head. The soundtrack definitely gives Luke Cage its own unique feel, even as it’s easy to see how this show fits comfortably aside Daredevil and Jessica Jones in Netflix’s little corner of the MCU.

All 13 episodes of Marvel’s Luke Cage will hit September 30 at 12:01 AM Pacific on Netflix.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Watch ‘The Muppets’ Band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Perform Live in San Francisco

by Ethan Anderton

Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem live performance

The Muppets have been a staple of childhoods that span generations. However, much like cartoons, for adults and children alike, they only exist in the world of TV and movies. But every now and then, The Muppets appear in the open for the public to see outside of a screen, and it feels truly magical. That’s exactly what happened at a music and arts festival in San Francisco.

Fans of The Muppets know that there’s no band better than Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. That’s the band which features Animal as the drummer along with frontman Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Janice, and Zoot. And as if they were any other chart-topping band in the world, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem performed a live 25-minute set at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music and Arts festival this past weekend, and you can watch the whole thing after the jump.

Here’s the Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem live performance from the FEST 2016 YouTube channel:

Songs on the band’s set list included Mowgli’s San Francisco, a perfect way to play to the crowd in the California city, as well as “Ophelia” by The Band and also “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. If you’re not familiar with those groups, they also played some stuff that’s a little more mainstream like a rendition of “With a Little Help from My Friends” by The Beatles, complete with help by the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir.

I wish I could have been their in person to witness this set. As someone who grew up loving The Muppets, watching their movies non-stop on recorded VHS tapes, this would have been like seeing The Rolling Stones. Plus, their appearance is made all the better by the fact that they even joked around between songs. Seriously, this is magical stuff.

How Fox’s ‘Son of Zorn’ Is and Is Not Like ‘Roger Rabbit’ [TCA 2016]

by Fred Topel

Son of Zorn details

Zorn himself made a surprise appearance at the Television Critics Association panel for Son of Zorn, the new comedy from producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Zorn is an animated character voiced by Jason Sudeikis, a barbarian warrior from the island of Zephyria who returns to the States to spend more time with his son Alan (Johnny Pemberton). Since the animated Zorn could not appear on stage, he called in with a cell phone video comparing critics to warriors like himself.

“Sure I defend Zephyria, but you guys defend the American public from accidentally tuning into a dumpster fire like Blood and Oil or Wicked City,” Zorn said.

Lord and Miller were also unavailable due to their production on the Han Solo movie, but co-creator/executive producer Reed Agnew and executive producers Eric Appel and Sally Bradford McKenna explained the intricacies of the show. The real world reacts to Zorn like an animated character is commonplace.

“We never wanted to call him a cartoon,” Agnew said. “Like Roger Rabbit, they were cartoons. When he walks into Applebee’s with no shirt and a sword, no one’s like, ‘Whoa, you’re a cartoon.’ They’re like, ‘You need to put on a shirt.’”

Where Son of Zorn does want to emulate Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is in the precision of combining live-action and animation.

“It’s almost like Roger Rabbit too, which I think is the high-water mark of combining live action and animation,” Appel said. “In that movie, you buy into the fact that in this world, Toon Town exists. Everyone in Hollywood has an awareness that cartoon characters are just actors. I think the audience can take that leap.”

Zephyria is Son of Zorn‘s Toon Town. It was a creative decision to make Zephyria a place on Earth, not an alternate dimension or other such explanation.

“Zephyria exists on Earth,” Appel said. “It’s an island, all fantasy warrior barbarian island. It’s almost like the world of Harry Potter. It’s the real world, but in it there exists this world of wizards. Some people are aware of it. The world of Zephyria, the set of rules that world has is the set of rules a cartoon of that genre would have. People don’t treat it that it’s crazy because they know this place exists. You can do that crazy cartoony stuff, but you’re aware your characters are reacting to it in a grounded way.”

In the pilot, Zorn clashes with the suburban and corporate world, often drawing his sword and chopping things up. Yet the goal is to turn this literal caricature into a genuine character.

“It was very important tonally when you have this crazy hyper-real character, he’s a character,” Agnew said. “He’s a person. When he’s sad, you feel sad for him. He’s got these flaws. It’s not like a skit where he says ‘I killed the beast.’ We liked Jason Sudeikis so much because he was just like a guy talking. He’s a person, he’s relatable. We give him tropes that are hopefully relatable to us. We can see ourselves in Zorn hopefully. I think the things we deal with are human interactions, growing as a person, becoming a better father, forgiving your enemies, stuff like that. We do it in a silly, stupid way.”

McKenna added that one episode involves Alan coming to terms with his Zephyrian culture. In the pilot, Zorn gives up his hero job to be closer to Alan, but the only job he can get is in an office.

“When you think of someone like Zorn, who’s just fighting monsters and living this glorious life back in Zephyria where he probably has 50-foot sculptures built in his honor, the cubicle is just the most mundane thing,” Agnew added. “Cubicle, florescent lights, shitty job, you gotta pay the rent. Now the hero is some 5’5 fat guy who made more sales that month. I think it’s about Zorn navigating the world of banal American suburban lameness. He comes from a world where every day there’s a battle and monsters to be slain. Now he can’t figure out how to work a vending machine. These are the battles he’s fighting now.”

The other side of Son of Zorn is the family comedy. “[Zorn deals with] how to integrate himself with the family,” McKenna said. “He has an ex-wife who still has feelings, they’re working through their feelings. Helping his son with girl problems, problems at school. It’s an inappropriate narcissist dad who’s coming in to fit in with his family again. Being animated is more of a side note.”

Son of Zorn premieres Sunday, September 25 on Fox.

‘Bad Santa 2’ Trailer: Billy Bob Thornton Tries to Recapture That NSFW Christmas Magic

by Angie Han

Bad Santa 2

Since 2003, Bad Santa has become a sort of holiday classic for people who don’t like holiday classics. This pitch-black comedy is everything Christmas movies aren’t supposed to be — crass and mean and completely twisted — which makes it all the more admirable that it manages to be kinda sweet as well. It’s a tricky balance, but one director Terry Zwigoff and writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa pull off with aplomb.

So what happens when someone tries to recapture that magic 13 years later, without the writers or director who made it work the first time? Well, we’ll find out in just a few months. This fall’s Bad Santa 2 brings back Billy Bob Thornton as self-loathing screwup Willie Soke, along with Tony Cox as his erstwhile partner and Brett Kelly as his young friend. But the director this time is Mark Waters, of Mean Girls fame, and the script comes from Shauna CrossDoug EllinJohnny Rosenthal, and John Phillips. Take a peek at the NSFW Bad Santa 2 trailer below.

Bad Santa 2 arrives November 23Christina Hendricks and Kathy Bates also star.

BAD SANTA 2 returns Academy Award®-winner BILLY BOB THORNTON to the screen as America’s favorite anti-hero, Willie Soke. Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus (TONY COX), to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is ‘the kid’ – chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (BRETT KELLY), a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie’s sliver of humanity.

Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Academy Award®, Golden Globe and Emmy-winner KATHY BATES, as Willie’s horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke. A super butch super bitch, Sunny raises the bar for the gang’s ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behavior. Willie is further burdened by lusting after the curvaceous and prim Diane, played by Emmy Award-nominee CHRISTINA HENDRICKS, the charity director with a heart of gold and libido of steel.
