Witchier: The Witcher 3 Adding New Game+ Mode

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

Nice.

Wednesday is Free Witcher 3 [official site] Day, and this week is due to bring the last of its sixteen planned freebies. What oh what could it- oh, no, it won’t be coming this week. Still, developers CD Projekt RED have announced what the final titbit will be, and it’s a good’un: a New Game+ mode.

Fallout 4’s Mod Tools Won’t Be Ready Till Next Year

by Graham Smith
Pete Mecum

Boo.

It’s hardly a Bethesda RPG if you can’t replace some part of it with the chugging terror of Thomas the Tank Engine, but Fallout 4‘s mod tools won’t be ready at the game’s launch on November 10th. Speaking to IGN, Bethesda’s VP of Marketing Pete Hines said that, their “entire focus is on finishing the game.”

The Bomb: Fallout Anthology Out October 2nd

by Emily Gera
Pete Mecum

Everything Fallout.

Bethesda are taking advantage of the encroaching release of Fallout 4 [official site] with plans to release a hefty collection of Fallout games. They’re calling it, quite naturally, Fallout Anthology.

Put a circle around October 2nd in your calendars; the Anthology includes all five games in the Fallout series from the original through New Vegas, and all the relevant DLC in between. There’s also space in its fake mini-nuke box reserved for Fallout 4, which is due out around a month later on November 10th.

Scream, Dracula, Scream! Victor Vran Out Of Early Access

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

Game looks cool.

When our John wanted to click on monsters until they exploded in showers of pennies, blades, and garments, Adam pointed him towards Victor Vran [official site]. The demon-hunting action-RPG had only just launched into Steam Early Access, but John dug it. Unhelpfully, he didn’t leave snappy soundbites like “it blew me away” or “it murdered its way into my heart” – would it kill you, John? – so just trust me on that if you’re too lazy to read his impressions yourself.

Anyway, Victor Vran left Early Access and properly launched today, presumably making it even better. Big updates are still planned for the future, though.

Sithprise! Knights Of The Old Republic 2’s New Patch

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

Cool.

You meatbags did what?

Obsidian’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II doesn’t quite reach the level of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines on the Oh Gosh Imagine If It Were Actually Finished-o-meter, but it has folks who go to bat to it. Like Bloodlines, for a decade KOTOR 2 has relied on fans to fix bugs, restore and finish cut content, and improve support for modern systems. Unlike Bloodlines, KOTOR 2 apparently still has some sort of official support.

Yesterday brought a new KOTOR 2 patch on Steam, adding native support for widescreen resolutions and controllers, Steam Workshop for mods, and more.

A Young Boy Playfully Battles a Stunt Kite Flown by an Incredibly Talented Pilot in Huntington Beach, California

This made me laugh.

A video posted in 2013 by DJ Spillz shows a young boy playfully doing battle against a stunt kite being flown by an incredibly talented pilot in Huntington Beach, California. The kite jumps around the boy as well as other spectators and repeatedly stops short before hitting anyone.

Avast: World Of Warcraft Adding Garrison Shipyards

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

YOU NERFED MY BATTLESHIP!

For a game supposedly about war and the crafting of warthings, World of Warcraft [official site] doesn’t have much of any of that. Mostly the Horde and Alliance stand on opposite sides of the warhall sneering and occasionally yelling e.g. “You’re rubbish you are!” The Warlords of Draenor expansion did add a little warcrafting, though, letting folks build and upgrade their own garrison.

Now Blizzard are expanding that to include warboatcrafting, rolling out shipyards. You won’t sail them around engaging in actual war, of course, but at least you can feel comfortable that you totally could and would if those cowards would dare come round your manor.

EarthBound Sold Out on Club Nintendo!

by Mato
Pete Mecum

How can it be sold out in a digital store?

A couple fans have recently let me know that EarthBound has sold out on the Club Nintendo system. Here’s some info from J64:

EarthBound was offered as one of the final Club Nintendo rewards with a price of 250 coins. Recently, it seems as though they ran out of stock. I guess they pre-allocate a certain number of download codes for each game, because I can think of no other way for a digital game to sell out.

I’ve attached a screenshot showing what the rewards page currently shows now that the game is sold out.

ebsoldout

I don’t really follow Nintendo’s rewards/membership stuff so I only vaguely knew that EarthBound was one of the final rewards. Is it the only one to be sold out so far, or are other games experiencing the same situation? If anyone knows, please share in the comments!

Hearthstone Expands Into Blackrock Mountain Next Week

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

There be dragons.

It’s a terrible compulsion, the drive to catch ‘em all. You might be cock of the walk in Hearthstone [official site] right now, but it’s soon to get a burst of new cards and what will you do then? I hope you’ve been saving your pennies (real or virtual) as Blizzard have announced the free-to-play collectible card game’s Blackrock Mountain expansion will launch next Thursday, on April 2nd.

It’ll bring five new wings of raiding inspired by the classic World of Warcraft zone, a volcano swarming with naughty dwarves, orcs, dragons, and fire elementals. What this means for you is single-player missions along with new challenges and 31 extra cards.

Pretty 17 – Half-Life 2: Update Comes To Steam

by Alec Meer
Pete Mecum

Community commentaries. :D

a 620 wide image probably not the best way to demonstrate this stuff, eh?

Oho, ‘Half-Life 2: Update‘ is an extremely cheeky name for a mod. Write it on the internet and a few thousand ears will immediately prick up. “Is more Half-Life? Means Half-Life 3? Check file structure! One file will have a 3 in its name! Is Half-Life 3! Rabble rabble rabble!” So no, this is not an official Half-Life 2 update, but it has got the nod for a free standalone Steam release tomorrow.

Designed to take fuller advantage of what more recent updates to the Source engine can do, this apparently final version of the community-made mod includes graphical updates and ‘countless’ bug fixes, plus a new fan commentary mode. You’re probably going to want it.

Dark Souls Beaten With A Bongo Drum Controller

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

HAH!

Mastering a game you love can be bittersweet. You’ve conquered the highest peak and can see the whole world beneath you, but where from here? You could try hacking limbs off or plucking your eyes out. Or using a weird controller, I guess, if you’re less prone to dramatics.

Benjamin ‘bearzly’ Gwin has been challenging himself with Dark Souls for a while, beating it with one single finger, with the plastic drums and guitar controllers of Rock Band, and, now, the bongo drum controller from GameCube rhythm ‘em up Donkey Konga.

Early Impressions: Rimworld

by Alec Meer
Pete Mecum

I watch Shawn play this. It looks good.

The last few times we looked at top-down sci-fi survival-strategy (is that a thing? Genres are becoming so tricky lately) Rimworld it was merely flirting with the idea of being genuinely playable, but recent buzz had it that the Rimworld was now inhabitable at last. It doesn’t take much to convince me to starve to death on an alien world, so I thought I’d check in.

A Leaked Look At The Cancelled Legacy Of Kain: Dead Sun

by Alice O'Connor
Pete Mecum

I would've played this... makes me sad.

Cast your mind back to 2013, when Square Enix announced the first new Legacy of Kain game in a decade. Well. Sorta. Nosgoth is set in the same universe as the vamp ‘em up series, but a free-to-play multiplayer game rather than the usual singleplayer murder adventure. Well!

Turns out, according to whispers and rumours, Nosgoth was the spun-off multiplayer side from a Legacy of Kain game cancelled in 2012. Made by Climax Studios, it was to be named Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. And now you can watch half an hour of leaked footage which, if not real, would have been a monumental effort to fake.
