Recipe: Chicken Divan Casserole — Quick and Easy Weeknight Dinners

by Christine Gallary

Chicken divan is the ultimate old-school medley of chicken, broccoli, and cheese sauce. It originated in the early 20th century in a New York hotel restaurant, Divan Parisienne, and it hits all the right notes: hearty, creamy, and comforting. While the type of cheese used varies from recipe to recipe, what is not negotiable is the use of cream sherry, which adds a tiny bit of sweetness and richness to the cheese sauce.

There's no doubt that this dish is rich, but this lightened-up version skips sour cream and condensed cream soups in favor of some chicken broth and milk for the sauce. And if you start with leftover cooked chicken or a store-bought rotisserie chicken, this casserole can be yours even on a busy weeknight.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters Does a Spot On Imitation of Christopher Walken’s Distinctive Voice

by Lori Dorn

During an interview with Chris Moyles of Radio X, the multi-talented Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters shared a story about a hilarious conversation the band had with the legendary Christopher Walken when they were appearing together on Saturday Night Live in 2003. Walken has asked about the pronunciation of the band’s name and in relating the story, Grohl did a spot on imitation of the actor’s very distinctive voice.

There was once when we did Saturday Night Live and Christopher Walken was the host and he comes up and…he asked us if the accent was on Foo or Fighters. we know how he
speaks and we said the accent is on Fighters…because he goes up and he’s like ‘ladies and gentlemen Foo Fighters‘.

Here are the band’s performances of “All My Life” and “Times Like These” from the 2003 Saturday Night Live episode to which Grohl was referring with Walken’s unique introductions.

Fuck Sports Bottles

by Drew Magary

I thought I was done. My kids were no longer babies, which meant no more formula, which meant no more time laboring at the sink, hand-washing 90 separate Dr. Brown’s bottle parts and leaving them soaking on a dishtowel to dry. That part of my life, as far as I was concerned, was over.

by Lori Dorn

Giant Pacific Octopus Reflected

Talented artisan Jeffrey Michael Samudosky of JMS Wood Sculpture in Gig Harbor, Washington has created an absolutely stunning giant pacific octopus that he carved with a chainsaw into a large piece of wood from a fallen redwood tree. The enormous cephalopod took a great deal of time and effort, but the result is absolutely gorgeous.

Please take a moment to enjoy the images below of the Giant Pacific Octopus’ transformation. Also, a special thanks to our friend Redwood Burl for providing the wood used in this sculpture, and a beautiful location in which to carve it.

A Silly Dog Refuses to Ride the Escalator Unless His Human Picks Him Up and Carries Him

by Lori Dorn

A post shared by Antônio (@antoniothegolden) on

A wonderfully funny and normally brave dog named Antonio refused to go up the escalator at the Shopping Patio Higienopolis in São Paulo, Brazil unless his human picked him up and carried him like when he was a puppy. Per his accommodating human, it was like “that moment when you think you’re still a baby”.

Antonio going for a different escalator ride in his human’s arms.

Antonio is normally more daring in his adventures such as swimming, shopping, and jumping.

UPDATED: Houston Megachurch Pastor Prepares To Open Church To Flood Victims After Being Shamed Online

Houston megachurch pastor and "prosperity gospel" purveyor Joel Osteen wants everyone to know he is praying for Hurricane Harvey's victims. But until he was shamed online, he had no plans to actually open the church doors and welcome the needy in. Now, that has changed.

Earlier today, Osteen announced that he would be partnering with hater Franklin Graham to grift some more bucks to help someone somewhere. It was unclear that any donations would help anyone actually drowning in the middle of Houston, right now.

Some tried to excuse the inexcusable by saying that the area around the church was flooded, or that the church itself was flooded. But it clearly is not, as photographs indicated.
