Genius makes 'Super Smash Bros.' playable on calculators

The latest iteration of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. hits stores Nov. 21, but if you're yearning for a game that brings you back to simpler days — like, say, when you were sitting in high school math class — this version is for you.
A user called Hayleia at Omnimaga, a website dedicated to calculator- and PC-game programming, created a stripped-down version of Super Smash Bros. Melee for the TI-83 and TI-84. That's right: You can play Smash Bros. on your calculator.
Here's how it looks:
Right now, the game's only playable characters are Fox and Falco, but it's open source, which means you can tinker with the code. Hayleia's looking for help, too. The creator isn't going to add any more characters, but said players can create their own by modifying the code Read more...

EarthBound documentary Kickstarter success leads to convention
The EarthBound fanbase is an ever growing blob of sweetness and joy. Just when you think you've seen how far it can go, it gets even bigger and even more happy. Did you know that the game was #10 on the Wii U eshop charts last week, beating out awesome games like Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Shovel Knight, and Super Mario Bros.? Not bad for a turn-based comedy/drama RPG that was once considered a flop.
As well as the game has done on the Wii U, I'm more impressed with how well its fans have done on Kickstarter. Fangamer's upcoming documentary/CD/book/zine project has been a runaway hit, collecting over $200K with about six days of its Kickstarter campaign left. With that $200K milestone, Fangamer has announced they'll be throwing a EarthBound/Mother convention next summer. It will be a relatively lean and mean event, with a cap at 450 attendees. About 300 of those tickets will be made available to backers first, leaving the rest of to hope that the remaining 150 tickets don't sell out instantly (which they will). If it's a big enough success, they may turn it into a yearly thing.
While crowdfunded games don't seem to be finding the same success that they used to, crowdfunded things about games appear to be doing better than ever. Maybe Fistshark should plan a convention stretch goal, something that rhymes with Don John perhaps...

THE TRUTH OF NATIVE AMERICANS BEFORE THE GENOCIDE
Gotta put this on blast.
We never needed a white savior.I hate this country.
What I learned from this video:
- 100 million Native Americans died at the hands of white colonists
- Instead of planting crops the colonists spent their days digging random holes in the ground looking for gold. They started starving and dug up Indian corpses to eat. They took Indian prisoners and forced them to teach the colonists how to farm
- Native Americans had massive cities with tens of thousands of well constructed houses, intricate water canals and large merchant areas.
- The Native Americans used soaps, deodorants and breath sweeteners while colonists never bathed or even took of their clothes
- There was a delousing policy with the mantra Nits create Lice; nits being Native American babies, so their goal was to kill every Indian, including babies
- In the 1700’s 80% of the Federal Budget went towards eradicating the Native American population so they could take their developed farmland
- Colonists leaders went town after town killing men women and children under the approval of George Washington
- "Pursue Indians to extermination" -Thomas Jefferson
- California governor (1849-1851): “extermination must continue to be waged until the Indian becomes extinct”
The main factor which prevented Native American extinction was the fact they were used for slave labor. The most prized Native Americans were young girls who were said to be valued for labor and lust (that one white dude in your ethnic studies class that says he’s 1/36th Cherokee?)
In modern times children were forced into Indian Boarding Schools whose goal was to “Kill the Indian in them”. It was federal policy. They were beaten if they used their native tongue, they were forced to dress and style their hair like whites
This country was literally built on terrorism and mass murder. White people are savage terrorists.
Until, this is taught in schools everywhere- “history class” is merely a racism propaganda course.

Can't buy me love: Alibaba makes $1 billion in 17 minutes of 'Singles Day'

Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba brought in $1 billion of sales in about 17 minutes of its Singles Day sale — Singles Day being the equivalent of Black Friday in the company's home country.
Compared to that, it took quite a long time for sales to get to $2 billion.
[01:00] In a little over an hour, the #1111sale exceeds USD 2 billion in GMV; 45%+ of it coming from mobile #Alibaba #singlesday #China
— Alizila.com (@Alizila) November 10, 2014
Singles Day began in the early 1990s, and it's a numerological holiday: it celebrates the four 1s in the date, 11/11. Something of an anti-Valentine's day in China, the day is marked by parties and outings for single people — as well as a torrent of online shopping. Alibaba brought in $5.75 billion on Singles Day 2013 Read more...

A Board Game That Teaches Four-Year-Olds How To Code

When was the last time a champion speller rolled up to a Bee in a Ferrari? Never. If you really want to guarantee your kids make something of themselves one day, you'll want to forget board games like Scrabble and focus on building real-world skills. Not only does Robot Turtles teach a love of Herpetology (the study of reptiles) it also teaches them the basics of computer programming—aka coding.
