New Adventure in the World of 'Harry Potter' Unfolds in Short Film

by Molly Horan

Harry Potter fans rejoiced earlier this fall when they learned their beloved series would return in a film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But that's not the only movie to take on the wizarding world beyond Harry Potter himself.

YouTuber Wren Weichman produced a short film titled The OMEn Chronicles that takes place 15 years after The Battle of Hogwarts. None of OMEn's characters will be familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the wizards use the same spells as the Hogwarts kids and appear in plumes of smoke almost identical to the ones in the HP films.

Bizarre Thanksgiving Song Will Ruin Your Appetite

by Jessica Catcher

The newest goofy Thanksgiving song of the season is taking the holiday to weird new levels.

Dickie Stickhead recently posted his festive song on YouTube, which speaks up for all the turkeys out there who would rather go uneaten.

This video is one you can share with your grandma for a good chuckle, complete with a choreographed Pilgrim dance.

Massive Louisiana sinkhole might ignite into a fiery explosion

by Casey Chan on Sploid, shared by Casey Chan to Gizmodo

Massive Louisiana sinkhole might ignite into a fiery explosion

A sinkhole the size of twenty football fields swallowing trees and swamps—like the one that evacuated Bayou Corne, Louisiana, a year ago—is already terrifying. But what's more scary might be what's happening now: the danger of an exploding sinkhole that will look like the gates of hell.

Myst creators reach $1.2 million funding goal for Obduction

by Thomas Schulenberg
Obduction, the upcoming first-person adventure game from Myst creator Cyan Inc, has reached $1.2 million with its fundraising campaign. The project is being built with the strengths of Myst and Riven in mind - players will be abducted by an artifact and placed upon a bizarre world with a minimalistic explanation. Answering questions beyond that is up to the players.

The project's Kickstarter page explains that "even the toughest puzzles should be designed so that you know that all the pieces to solve it are there in front of you." Those pieces may indeed be present, but if Obduction is to be anything like Cyan's previous works, grabbing a notebook and forming a team amongst friends to persevere might not be a bad idea.

Windows and Mac users will be among Obduction's targets, once it begins kidnapping people in "mid-to-late 2015."

There's a Super Mario Galaxy stage in Smash Bros.

by Jordan Devore

All of this talk about Super Mario Galaxy, and now Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed a stage based on that beloved game. Life is good.

Providing just a bit more to get our imaginations going, Sakurai notes that "The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics."

There are so very few games that can keep my interest with drip-feed screenshots like this. Smash Bros. is in a league all its own.

Paradise Lost reaches funding goal in under two weeks

by Darren Nakamura

It was only a few weeks ago that we first heard about the stylish stealth Metroidvania Paradise Lost: First Contact. Since then, the project has gained a ton of momentum, getting approved on Steam Greenlight earlier this week, and passing its base funding goal of $70,000 on Kickstarter with 16 days left in the campaign. In addition, it is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated titles of 2014.

In other cool Paradise Lost news, the team hooked up with Octodad developer Young Horses, and will be featuring the bumbling orange cephalopod as a custom skin in place of the default alien plant. The animated GIF that Asthree Works made to announce the tentacle partnership is just delightful.

'Harry Potter' Actors: Then and Now

by Connor Finnegan
Harry-then-and-now

Saturday marks the 12-year anniversary of the U.S. release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. As the enormous success of the Harry Potter series continued to grow around the world, previously unknown child actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson quickly became household names.

For those of us who grew up with the Harry Potter franchise, it's easy to forget just how young the stars of the films were when they brought Hogwarts to life in 2001. Their bright-eyed expressions would fade to cynicism over years of dances, detentions and Death Eaters.

Someone Give These Parents a Medal for Creativity

Someone Give These Parents a Medal for Creativity

Refe Tuma and his wife have a very special set of pranks that they pull on their daughters every November - DINOSAUR PRANKS. In a move they call "Dinovember," their daughters' plastic toys "come to life" every night and wreak havoc on the Tume household. As Refe puts it, " In a time when the answers to all the world's questions are a web-search away, we want our kids to experience a little mystery. All it takes is some time and energy, creativity, and a few plastic dinosaurs."

Makes you feel good, doesn't it?

Check out more pictures from the ongoing project here!

BatKid Takes Over San Francisco

by Germain Lussier

Batkid

Last week, we let you know the San Francisco Make-A-Wish was making a young comic book fan’s dream come true. They were planning to turn San Francisco into Gotham City, with plans to let him stop crime and so much more. That day is today, and thanks to photos above from the @SFWish Twitter account, you can follow along as Batkid goes on an incredible, heart warming and frankly kick-ass event.

The @SFWish account has a fantastic running account of Batkid (real name Miles, a 5 year old with leukemia) running around town. Head there to check it out and the San Francisco NBC affiliate has a live feed you can watch here.

Here’s a brief recap of the day up to lunch time on the West Coast.

A general store owner hires a young female clerk who likes to wear very short skirts and thong panties. One day a young man enters the store, glances at the clerk and glances at the loaves of bread behind the counter. Noticing the length of her skirt [or general lack thereof] and the location of the raisin bread, he has a brilliant idea.

"Id like some raisin bread please", the man says politely. The female clerk nods and climbs up a ladder to reach the raisin bread, which is located on the very top shelf. The young man standing almost directly beneath her is provided with an excellent view, just as he surmised he would be.

Once she descends the ladder he muses that he really should get two loaves as he's having company for dinner. As the clerk retrieves the second loaf of bread, one of the other male customers notices whats going on. Thinking quickly, he requests his own loaf of raisin bread so he can continue to enjoy the view. With each trip up the ladder the young lady seems to catch the eye of another male customer. Pretty soon each male patron is asking for raisin bread, just to see the clerk climb up and down.

After many trips shes tired, irritated and thinking that she is really going to have to try this bread for herself!

Finally, once again atop the ladder, she stops and fumes, glaring at the men standing below. She notices an elderly man standing amongst the crowd staring up at her. Thinking to save herself a trip, she yells at the elderly man, "Is yours raisin too?"

"No," croaks the old man "... But its startin to twitch."
