Arrival remains a rare case of a critically acclaimed, successful sci-fi movie that shirked action or horror in favor of the genre’s headier pleasures. It’s a dreamy, philosophical, sometimes melancholy film, known as much for the mood created by its elliptical editing as the twist ending that editing hid. An excellent new installment of Lessons From The Screenplay compares not just Arrival’s filmed version with its written version but also its source material, Ted Chiang’s novella Story Of Your Life. The result manages to parse how director Denis Villeneuve and his team maintained such a delicately intellectual film’s tone while still functioning as a crowd-pleasing popcorn sci-fi flick. While we don’t yet know who received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, we have learned who got the Palm Dog, the award for a distinguished pup in a movie: A good boy named Bruno, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bruno is one of the stars of Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories, alongside Ben Stiller, an actually impressive Adam Sandler, and Dustin Hoffman. He is also a poodle, whose work, according to jury president and Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw, “symbolizes the brutal submission to Republican domestic policy,” per THR. The Meyerowitz Stories’ inclusion in competition was controversial because it’s being released by Netflix, but clearly a good dog is a good dog regardless of distribution platform.

Nick Kroll—who, with John Mulaney, makes up half the duo of semi-sociopathic pranksters Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland—made the announcement on Netflix, noting that a filmed version of the Broadway hit will arrive on Netflix on June 13.

According to Deadline, Fox has just given series orders to two of the network’s hottest comedy pilots: Ghosted and LA To Vegas. The former is billed as a comedic spin on The X-Files, with Craig Robinson playing a cynical skeptic and Adam Scott as a “true believer” who are enlisted by a secret organization to investigate supernatural activity in Los Angles. Naturally, there’s also some kind of overarching mystery that Scott and Robinson have to reckon with, because it wouldn’t be an X-Files parody without mythology. But there’s no word on if Ghosted will include its own spin on the Cigarette Smoking Man. Ghosted is written by That Awkward Moment’s Tom Gormican.

Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist packed up shop on Comedy Central back in 2002, but because the world has just become increasingly unstable since, the titular counselor is poised to make a return. Dr. Katz: The Audio Files will hit Audible Channels on June 8, when the good doctor will dispense therapy to a new slew of celebs. The audio series is set 20 years after the cult animated series, but not much has changed—Ben (H. Jon Benjamin) is still a slacker, and despite being middle-aged, still lives with his dad, who continues to try to help Hollywood players manage their neuroses.
