There was a lot of speculation around Overwatch's new hero. A lot of fans thought it might be Hammond, the longtime rival of the existing ape hero Winston, the same character mentioned in a few morsels of lore. Reasoning was that the game was in for another playable simian, albeit possibly with a dash of evil genius. After a week of teasing, Blizzard went and did this.

Folks, it's a hamster in a giant rolling death machine straight out of The Phantom Menace. It's not what anyone was expecting (okay, like one person, we'll get to them), but so far the response from the community is positive overall. AlecbuggWaluigi Disrespected!
As many feared would be the case, beloved internet-favorite Waluigi has been left out of the upcoming Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster of playable characters. This transpired, despite the absolute surge in popularity Waluigi has experienced over the past few years, and despite the fact Nintendo opted to include AS MANY characters as possible in this latest iteration (including long-awaited Metroid villain, Ridley). Waluigi's exclusion was only made more painful by the revelation that he WOULD be appearing in the game....as an Assist Trophy, able to do little else but receive damage and be brutalized.
Fans across the internet let out cries of horror and disappointment. Nintendo had done so much to make this the most fan service-y Smash yet, and still Waluigi was snubbed.
There are no easy answers here - I wish I could offer Waluigi fans some comfort, but I have nothing. It seems unlikely he would be added as a DLC character down the line, given he's already in the game as an Assist Trophy. Really, the only balm that could ease this wound would be a solo AAA Waluigi game, but I won't hold my breath for that. We've highlighted plenty of Dungeons and Dragons stories on the site before. The best RPG sessions have a way of spinning out into such wild and entertaining adventures worth telling and re-telling. One tale told this week is worth a spotlight all its own. On Monday, Bryant Durrell shared his story on Twitter. It started promising enough.
A long time ago when I was in college I was lucky enough to play in a great D&D campaign called (by the players, anyway) Catholic World. Eric was a superb GM. It was a low magic, high morals world. I don't think any of us ever scored a +1 weapon, but we knew right from wrong. 1/

For me to summarize the story wouldn't do it justice. Durrell gave us permission to embed the story in this article, so he can take it from here:
It wasn't pure Gygaxian right or wrong. Our GM was serious about his philosophy and Catholicism, so "right" was about what you did, not what race you were. I, for example, played a lizardman paladin. This wasn't weird or a stretch, it was just how the world worked. 2/

It was also literary as anything. I was a pretentious sprout, so my lizardman's holy book was a tattered copy of T. S. Eliot's Collected Poems. Eric worked this into his game seamlessly; as I said, he was a superb GM. 3/

The culmination of the campaign was scheduled for our 24 hour gameathon. @johnabbe organized these -- they were awesome, the kind of thing you can do when you're stupid and young. Board games, RPGs, computer games. These days they only last 6 hours. Wimps. 4/

The visual highlight of the gameathons while I was there was the 24 hour Sim City game. Every hour we'd print out the city map and put it up outside the (getting pretty fragrant) gaming room. Really sucked people in, great for membership. But I digress. 5/
