These Unused Cybermen Designs Are Utterly Creeptastic

by Charlie Jane Anders

These Unused Cybermen Designs Are Utterly Creeptastic

The latest version of the Cybermen on Doctor Who looks sleek and pretty cool... but they could have looked more insectoid and shown more of their former existence as organic humans, if this concept art from Millennium FX had been used. Check out that horrible mouth! (Click to embiggen, it's worth it.)

The Time Travelers Hidden In Thrift Store Paintings

We've mentioned a love for altered thrift store paintings before , and now we have a set that integrates science fiction travelers into the bland pastoral scenes. The only better would be if they were sold back to thrift stores for unsuspecting buyers to come across.

Euxinus

He de reconèixer que igual que tu "per provar la gràfica" el vaig baixar i per culpa teva estic enganxat, divendres vaig cap a Catalunya i ja tinc ansietat perque no hi podré jugar... :-S

A new life awaits you in the off-world colonies.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is, as I understand it, an alternate ending to Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. What happens after the kids reach Tomorrow-morrow Land? Does Aunty Entity rebuild civilization? Will Max return? And what about supposed sightings of Ironbar Bassey with a gentle brute bearing more than a passing resemblance to Blaster?

You can find out now, if you aren’t already playing, as Firaxis have released a demo. Click that ‘Download Demo’ button over on Steam. I’ll give it a go too, actually.

Have You Played… Masq?

by Graham Smith

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.

The above image of Masq isn’t a spoiler, as much as it might look like one. This free game will take you 15 minutes to play, but it branches so often and in such wildly varying directions that you could play it a dozen times and never encounter this particular moment of conflict. That’s what makes it great: it’s pure narrative, told via mostly motionless black-and-white comic frames, but choose-your-own adventures are thrilling when the choices matter this much.

When I last wrote about Skywind, it was to cover the game’s ‘Slough’ trailer, which showed Morrowind’s Bitter Coast brought to life within the Skyrim engine. In the comments, what followed was an interesting conversation about the etymological root of the word “Slough”, and its geographical uses in the UK and in America.

Anyway, the latest Skywind trailer shows off the West Gash region.

Wot I Think: Alien – Isolation

by Adam Smith

Alien: Isolation is Creative Assembly’s first-person survival horror take on Ridley Scott’s Alien. No predators, no marines, no swarms of xenomorphs. This time it’s not war. Instead, we have one space station, one creature and one Amanda Ripley, locked in an apparent cycle of terror. I was hoping for something that captured the intelligence of the original film’s design rather than simply being Amnesia in space, and Isolation is certainly that thing. Take a deep breath. Relax. We’re in safe hands, and there’s so much to talk about.
