All cards on the table, my taste in plushes at times borders on the bizarre but this time, I must not be alone in thinking these Giant Isopod plush toys are absolutely adorable. Why else would Strap-ya be sold out of most of their stock, leaving only a few varieties left? The Giant Isopod comes in three sizes, medium, large, and extra-large, and is incredibly detailed. The little segmented legs and shell on the extra-large plush are especially impressive. And just look at those long feelers and big round eyes! My heart melts.
Not only is this set of plushes oddly cute, but they are educational, too! Show of hands; who knows what a Giant Isopod is? Be honest. Here is a crash course: they are related to wood louses and make their home in the deep, deep depths (we are talking 200 to 1000 meters down) of the Gulf of Mexico and Western Atlantic Ocean. Giant Isopods, whose scientific name is Bathynomus Giganteus, are known in Japan as Daigusokumushi. But, according to the toys' description, they have a nickname of "Gusoku-tan." How darling!
These plushes don't seem to be widely available, unfortunately. Strap-ya has some and it looks like they may restock in March. Fingers crossed.
