Hair

by Minnesotastan

After spending a morning encountering stories about cybersecurity lapses, ISIS, and Ebola, it's a refreshing change to view something as inconsequential as a hair that had been trapped in a zipper.  Via.

deadspaes:

“His problem,” said the Thiefmaker, “is that if I can’t sell him to you, I’m going to have to slit his throat and throw him in the bay. And I’m going to have to do it tonight.”

So it’s a bit darker than what I’m used to coloring. Have a little Locke nearly escaping death for the 50th time in his 8yr. old life, it’s suppose to be the Thiefmaker right there taking little Lamora to his new home. But a bit of rope as well for insurance.
I have a tad more saturated version of this but thought it didn’t fit so there. 8^y

The towering pyrocumulus cloud above the King Fire is hard to...

The towering pyrocumulus cloud above the King Fire is hard to miss from the Sacramento area and even the San Joaquin Valley.

During its peak height Wednesday, the cloud tops could even be seen as far as Palo Alto, nearly 140 miles away.

These clouds form from intense surface heating from wildfires or even volcanic eruptions. The heat rises, cools and expands. In wildfires, strong upward currents carry ash, smoke and water vapor upwards. The ash and smoke act as condensation nuclei for the water vapor, and the cloud begins to grow.

Pyrocumulus clouds can produce rain and extinguish the fire that created them. If the cloud grows too large though and becomes a pyrocumulonimbus, it can produce lightning and that could spark more fires.

No one’s been hurt, no homes have been destroyed, so we’re all enjoying this with a clear conscience from the front porch swing

Now and Then

by Greg Ross

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Golubinaya_kniga.jpg

Most stories are told in the past tense. “It was a dark and stormy night.” In reading the story we understand that the storm is happening “now,” in the present, but the language that communicates this to us places it in the past.

This is a strange way of managing things. Imagine reading a novel using a bookmark. Everything to the left of the bookmark is in the past, already known. Everything to the right is in the future, not yet known. Our current location, at the bookmark, is someone else’s present narrated in the past tense. And this implies that there’s some future present in relation to which “current” events are past.

“If the past is to be read as present, it is a curious present that we know to be past in relation to a future we know to be already in place, already in wait for us to reach it,” writes Peter Brooks in Reading for the Plot (1984). “Perhaps we would do best to speak of the anticipation of retrospection as our chief tool in making sense of narrative, the master trope of its strange logic.”

(From Mark Currie, About Time, 2007.)

L’Oreal Paris Pure Reds

by Jane Cunningham
Eva Red

Eva Red

Honestly, the L’Oreal Paris Pure Reds collection is f.a.b.u.l.o.u.s! It’s put a spring right back in my beauty step and if you love red lippie, it’s a given that these will rock your red lipped world!

L'Oreal Paris Pure Reds

So, first we have the four celebrities; Liya, Eva, Julianna and Blake, each with the best red for their skin tone. The biggest excitement is probably Julianna with a red for red-heads. In the promo pick it looks rather orange, but it’s far from it; Julianna is a pink-toned red (some might say it’s not actually a true red) that to my eye has some coral notes to it as well, and although Eva is the correct red for my skin colouring, I am really drawn to the Julianna shade.

So, the line up is Liya, Eva, Blake and Julianna.

From bottom to top: Liya, Eva, Blake, Julianna. Blake is indicated for fair tones and has blue notes in it, while Eva is brickish. Liya is the most ‘red’ with some orange in the mix.

The formula of L’Oreal Paris Pure Reds is matte, and I don’t like mattes at all, but it’s one of the most forgiving mattes that I’ve come across. The lipsticks have off the scale pigment, and they actually feel comfortable on the lip – there is a lot of moisture in them. When I test a matte lipstick, I can feel dryness starting within the hour – genuinely not so with L’Oreal Paris Pure Reds. The result looks like a demi-matte, but feels like a sheen on the lip.

I absolutely love this range – massively high performing products for £6.99 a pop. It’s making the £25+ lipsticks look ridiculously over-priced and not in the least bit special. If you’re a red lip lover, GO!

L’Oreal Paris Pure Reds launch this month – they haven’t quite made it on-line yet, but any day now.

Hi Scott. I have a date this saturday, and we've decided to have a contest see who can tell the biggest lie and get away with it while on the date. You seemed like the man to ask. Could you provide a lie or two? Plz thx <3 Mell

Sarah Jamison

Get some dinner. Go on dates.

"I do have one kid from a previous relationship. It’s an eight-legged stallion. Long story. You won’t see him around, so don’t worry."

"Some time-travelers like to see big disasters as they’re happening, but I really prefer to visit the quiet time right before the disasters. Just to see so many people with no idea what’s going to happen in a few hours. And I like to do simple, normal stuff. Get some dinner. Go on dates."

"I wish the internet had more young men talking about video games. I really worry that all their voices are going unheard."
