THE FDA’S LATEST ASSAULT ON PUBLIC HEALTH: Needs More Salt. The Food and Drug Administration plans to pressure food companies into reducing sodium content, but its guidance hasn’t passed scientific peer review and could actually lead to an increase in cardiovascular disease and death for many Americans — not to mention ruining the taste of foods.
The Justice Department recently announced the largest fraud claim uncovered in any Covid-19 relief program, accusing 44 people in Minnesota of allegedly committing fraud against anti-hunger programs during the pandemic, stealing $240 million.
The group billed the government for meals “they did not serve to children who did not exist,” The New York Timesreported.
The brazen fraud stands out among the many instances of federal pandemic aid theft.
Prosecutors in the North Star State said one accused conspirator told the government he had fed 5,000 children a day in a second-story apartment, The Times reported.
The alleged criminals didn’t bother to try to hide their fraud, knowing that little attention would be paid to the details while the government was overwhelmed with applications and intent to get as much money out the door as possible.

Seriously, allowing domestic drilling puts money in the hands of an industry and a worker demographic that Democrats regard as enemies. Better we should send that money to Russia, Venezuela, or Saudi Arabia.
New York has been doing everything it can to confiscate the guns of honest, law-abiding citizens, and after their draconian lockdown policies during the pandemic, one can only imagine why they're so hot to take away the guns.

Animal rights activist group PETA is now calling on women to strike on sex with meat-eating men.
PETA’s Elena Waldman really can’t stand men having a good time at the weekend barbecue. She writes: “We all know them, the suburban men with beer bottles in hand, brandishing tongs while cooking sausages on their expensive gas grills.”
In Waldman’s view, eating barbecued meat is how men “prove their masculinity to themselves,” hurt animals and harm the climate.
She backs her claims with a serving of activist junk science, published in the journal PLOS ONE. According to the study, meat-eating men “contribute significantly more to the climate catastrophe than women.”
Something has got to be done about it!, the PETA nag says. So no sex tonight.
“That’s why PETA’s proposing a strike on sex with meat-eating men to persuade them to go vegan,” Waldman announced.
“Men need to take accountability for their actions,” she says. “And the easiest, healthiest, simplest way to do this is by going vegan.”
It’s baffling enough that men would partner up with such women to begin with. Just how many men are going to convert to veganism just to keep their chances open to have sex with undernourished, rickety vegan women (who often suffer from poor health) is unclear. But most among us will agree most carnivorous men won’t have to be too concerned about the latest misandrist threat, as there are loads of women out there who appreciate healthy, pect-flexing, meat-eating guys who chop wood shirtless and can lift heavy things.
Ironically, going vegan – an extremely dubious diet that has been tried and quit by many – is likely going to lead to an unintended natural selection for those who refuse to give it up.
Let them nag, complain and gripe all they want. This problem will be resolved on its own by nature. Read more here, here and here.

YouTube removed a video of incoming Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni elaborating on her conservative vision for the country during a 2019 speech. This was a curious decision that attracted widespread scorn from conservative media outlets, given the recent interest in the philosophy of Meloni, who is expected to become the first woman to lead the country.
After Reason asked YouTube to explain why it took down the video, the social media site reversed course and restored it.
“Upon careful review, we determined this video is not violative of our Community Guidelines and have reinstated it,” says Ivy Choi, a spokesperson for YouTube. “We enforce our policies regardless of the speaker’s political views and when it’s brought to our attention that a video has been mistakenly removed, we review the content and take appropriate action, including restoring the relevant videos or channels—as we have done with this video.”
It’s not clear why the video was flagged in the first place. It’s a recording of a speech made by Meloni at the 2019 World Congress of Families. In her remarks, she pushes back on the idea that her views are fringe or aligned with fascism.

AND THERE WAS FAMINE IN THE LAND: On this day in 1898, Soviet agronomist Trofim Denisovich Lysenko was born in what is now Ukraine. During his lifetime, he was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Hero of Socialist Labor award, the Stalin prize (three times), and the Order of Lenin (eight times). In this respect, he was rather like America’s Green Revolution agronomist, Norman Borlaug, who received more than a few prestigious awards too.
The crucial difference between Borlaug and Lysenko was that Borlaug’s methods increased agricultural production worldwide, saving the lives of hundreds of millions, if not a billion, people. Lysenko, on the other hand, was a nut case whose crackpot theories contributed to the slow, agonizing death by starvation of many of his countrymen.
Lysenko rejected Mendelian genetics, which he denounced as bourgeois. British biologist S.C. Harland described him as “completely ignorant of the elementary principles of genetics and physiology.” His pseudo-scientific theories included the belief that seeds should be planted as close together as possible because plants of like character will not compete with each other.
But Stalin liked him and that’s what counted. Stalin really, really liked him, so farm workers were forced to do his bidding, no matter how much they realized it was folly.
Prior to Lysenko’s rise, the Soviet Union was home to some of the best geneticists in the world. But if they criticized Lysenko, they were rounded up by the NKVD and imprisoned, sent to psychiatric hospitals, or (in several cases) executed as enemies of the state. Hundreds, if not thousands, suffered this fate. It therefore took that much longer for his many errors to be corrected.
If you’re wondering why Stalin liked him so much, two things come to mind: Lysenko was born to a peasant family and that sort of pedigree was important to getting ahead in the Soviet Union. It was their version of affirmative action. And he was a fervent communist, which was as necessary to getting ahead back then as being a fervent supporter of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” is today. I suppose you can make of that what you will.

The choice to omit some of the crucial findings discussed in the meeting from the public report is “a recipe to destroy” the entire vaccine program, according to Levi, an Israeli native and an expert in risk management.
“The more pro-vaccine, the more disturbed you need to be from something like this,” Levi told The Epoch Times. “And the reason is that the two most important enablers for vaccine programs … to be successful is trust and transparency, that you actually communicate to people the real risk-benefits and allow them to make choices about what they want to do. The second thing is that you take care of the people that were harmed by the vaccine because no vaccine has 100 percent safety.”
“I think we have in this example … where we violate these two very important principles,” he added. “This is a recipe to basically destroy all vaccine programs, so the more pro-vaccine you are, you should be more disturbed by this.”
